Was Bale there when they were shooting that scene? I'd love to see some play off between Crudup and Bale.

'Public Enemies' draws Capitol crowd

Madison -- It's spring in an election year, there's no budget repair deal in sight, so it's a good thing there's "Public Enemies" to provide some excitement in the state Capitol.

Producers of the movie about 1930s gangster John Dillinger and the FBI's chase to capture him has drawn crowds as it's been shot around the state in the last two months. The production hit Madison late last week, and producers spent Friday night filming in the Capitol's North Hearing Room.

Today, the cast and crew were back, spending most of the morning on the E. Washington Ave. side of the Capitol, shooting what appeared to be J. Edgar Hoover (played by Billy Crudup) and Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale), the FBI agent in charge of tracking Dillinger, speaking to a pack of reporters. By late afternoon, the production had shifted to the State St. side of the Capitol, where Bale and extras milled around as the scene was set up, and in the heart of the Capitol rotunda.

Capitol aides and visitors had a good view of the action outside from the Assembly chambers, where these photos were taken. Bale is in a grey suit in the bottom right of the first picture.
