He's doing the samething that he did with Coliterial and Miami Vice: The interior scenes are filmed in film, while the exterior scenes are filmed with digital.

But yeah, I don't know why he's doing that style with this movie. I don't know the artistic advantage that he trying to achieve here, because he's done it already and it was an okay 'style' I suppose.
the interior scenes looked like they were filmed with the same camera.

it should look a little more artistic. imo

maybe more than for Terminator 4 !

I think the digital look is a quite fresh thing for this type of movie.

As much as I think Depp will rock this flick, Bale's delivery of ''The only way you will leave a jail cell is when we take you out to execute you...'' is superb. So condescending. I love it. :D

I will go and see this movie.

At this point, I cannot rank my anticipation for summer movies. Star Trek, Terminator, and Public Enemies all have me at an equal fever pitch. Behind those three, I don't know that I'm definite to see anything else in the theater, except for Harry Potter.

.

we don't see enough of bale here though ...

Good trailer but too little Bale. I did like this though:

"You're being extradited."
"Where to?"
"Indiana."
"Why? I have absolutely nothin' I wanna do in Indiana."

i really get it how he thought that it worked in collateral. or even in miami vice.
but this ''documentary'' camera doesnt work in this movie. it just doesnt work.

I have to agree with you! That being said, this film looks absolutely fantastic!

The film itself looks fantastic and both Bale and Depp have killer lines in the trailer, however I do find the contrast between the lush interior shots and the "Collateral cam" night shots to be jarring, plus the amount of music used in the trailer was overkill I felt.

Ok, that does look pretty cool.

Except for the abundant racism, I wish I was in the 30s. We're half way to a new Depression! YAY!

i hate that camera that director keeps using... it can make a beautiful shot look so cheap

Oh man oh man oh man, that trailer is ****ing awesome.

I honestly really like it, the hand held camera and being shot on digital. It has a clean, crisp look to it, and the hand held camera has a old school, fun feel to it that I think really fits what Mann is aiming with this film.

The handheld camera brings immediacy to some scenes in the trailer (such as Dillinger waving to people while he's being taken to jail). Me, I'm just personally glad Mann changed his mind and actually used a different cinematographer to shoot on film for this movie. It'd look anachronistic, to say the least, not to mention cheap.

Mann's usage of digital really hindered the look of Miami Vice and Collateral, you could see the digital noise in the darkly-lit scenes (even though you get better black levels than you can on film).
