Is it just me, or the way they filmed this seemed off? Did they use a different kind of camera? It looks like the type someone would use in a student film. It just seemed off to me. Anyone else notice this? It's hard to explain.
and here we have it,
thank you.
it looks off right? :cmad:

Loved the trailer... I remember when depp and crew came to Crown Point to film scenes and I live like 5 mins from Lake County Jail.... it was absolutely amazing!!
movie looks great

Not enough Bale but based on the pedigree involved and the quality of the trailer overall, i thinkk this could easily end up being my favourite film of this year

I love the look of this. It looks like it was shot exactly like Collateral.

Awesome.

His face looks a bit CGI :D

*edit* : saw the trailer now, and in fact that´s cgi..

and it questions me: why the heck did they use cgi for that ??

nevertheless, trailer looks great !!!

it's been shot in HD, just like Collateral and Miami Vice

I doubt Depp minds doing his own stunts, but Mann probably had a reason for doing it.

so I guess everybody is excited about the trailer, huh?

Not as blown away by the trailer as I wanted to be. Still excited, though.

this looked like a standard film, I mean I don't see that sort of really different look to it as I've seen with other Mann films like Heat and Collateral

loved this trailer, this picture's going to be a great ride. i showed it to my roommate who had never heard of the movie and now he's as stoked as i am.

Depp and Mann's direction look amazing, but the music was horrible in the trailer.

Also....it pains me to say this....but I'm tired of Christian Bale.

Trailer looked good. Aside from the oddly varying music choices...

I loved the trailer. Crudup's voice as Hoover is hilarious but Hoover had a funny way of talking. That scene with Nelson laughing uncontrollably while shooting his tommy gun and standing on a counter was pure win.

Was Marion Cotillard trying to do an American accent? I couldnt tell...

I could hear her French accent creeping in at parts.

FREAKIN" AWESOME!!!

I loved that trailer and Depp looks like he is going to absolutely steal every scene he is in. So far it looks like this could be Depp's best performance yet.

Depp should steal every scene. Dillinger was the most charismatic gangster of the 30s.

holy crap, its HD cam all the way again!

Looks like Michael Mann is now going HD only now!

Collateral was mostly HD cam, while Miami Vice was all HD cam with some grainy HD thrown in for added pleasure.

Certainly though, for most movie audiences and those who didn't see Collateral or Miami Vice, this HD documentary style footage look might be a bit strange to take in.

But with Bale and Depp and Cotillard, it should bring in some decent money in.

Let's just hope Michael Mann hasn't blown a big load and gone over budget like what happened with Miami Vice.

has anybody noticed the Font is quite similar to the Punisher Warzone font?!

looks a bit funny, especially on a 1930's era movie!
I reckon they should have gone for a more old vintage font.

But yeah, the HD look on a 30s era movie is going to look great I think.
Although some might not be happy with the lack of "cinematic" feel to the movie that regular film reels bring.

just look at the screen cap above ur post.
it just looks nasty at times.

im pro digital, but i dunno why it looks so crappy when he uses it.
whenever you see a gun fire its most noticeable.

I think it's just the film stock and filters used for it -- I expected Dante Spinotti to use a restrained palette like he did for L.A. Confidential or something more vivid and hyperrealistic like X-Men: The Last Stand or The Insider.

Uh, Mann didn't shoot on HD for Public Enemies, he shot on regular 35mm film using cinematographer Dante Spinotti. There was a press release about Mann's crew for this film before shooting started, and that was a specific detail in that.

I think the overexposure in some of the scenes (too much light) is throwing some people off. Collateral and Miami Vice looked like big-budget versions of CSI -- the look screamed "television."

I hate the look of this. I couldnt even get through Miami Vice....but I love Bale and Depp....but man, that look is going to bug me.

I love it. Some shots look a little too lazy on Mann's part, but it still looks great.
