I don't know. American Gangster felt like one big scenario with no climax. Hopefully Mann will have a climax in this.

yea, just when it started to get get it... ended. But I guess they were just following the facts. It seemed like it was building up to an all out gang war.

First day of filming.

This is in Wisconsin, right?

Great find Anton. Love the authentic feel of this one.

Did Depp shave after that pic with Mann and Dillinger's nephew ? b/c the 'stache is gone in the car pics.

wow is that a movie set of has Wisconsin not changed at all in the last 70 years?

Wow, Deep looks badass! He looks like back in his early gangster movies such as Donnie Brasco.

Donnie Brasco was a good crime thriller, but not as great as Public Enemies is going to be.

I already love the whole stuff about it, and the fact that they are using Dillinger's car is some kind of example of how they're trying to be faithful to the story!

So ummm....how much screentime are Bale and Depp gonna share together? I remember greatly anticipating 'American Gangster' because of Crowe and Denzel, but we all know what happened there.

I hope it's like Pacino and De Niro in Heat. Not that many together, but just enough to just feel the power on the screen.

does anyone know what Mann is shooting this film in? HD again?

Hope not, his MV attempt didn't impress me.

Well, I think it's pretty absurd to say a movie that hasn't been released yet, of which we haven't seen a single frame yet -- to use that hackneyed expression, is better than an other movie that HAS been written, shot, edited, released and SEEN by many people. It's quite a strange statement. Even though I understand your enthusiasm.

I wasn't criticizing the quality of the film. Just the disappointment at how little time Denzel and Crowe spent on screen.

Okay, that's cool. But in some cases it's better that way. Like in HEAT, ss some other poster said. Plus it's quite logical that they only met at his arrest. And it's a great moment in the film. Them standing across from eachother outside the church.

You should check out the DVD. It has an alternate ending in which Lucas is released from prison and he has a walk with Roberts. A very amusing little scene. But it's good they left it from the theatrical version.

Yeah HD I believe

I'm not denying it only made sense in the film's context. But I don't know, I just wanted much more than that. When you have two incredibily gifted actors (arguably) at their peak, starring in one film, well you expect some great scenes to be talked about.

It's kinda why I'm suspecting the same situation will happen here, since Depp and Bale are both playing roles on the opposing sides of the law. I'm sure it'll still be a good movie, but eh... :csad:

Although I liked American Gangster, most of material that the movie was based on was false. Still, I thought it was a very good crime thriller.

Well, if it's following true accounts of what happened (which early script reports have said it is) then they will spend extremely little screentime together.
