Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

Maybe he actually does in terms of Polanski. He needs to be taught that there's no distinction. He's letting his fanboyism for Polanksi in the way of what's right and wrong.

"Fanboyism"?

"She wanted to have it. And by the way, we’re talking about America’s morals, not talking about the morals in Europe and everything. Look, she was down with this. [...] I'm right, she's talked about it. Of course she's gonna say this because she knows she was in trouble with her mom. His version sounds more likely, sounds really really more likely."

When asked why Polanski couldn't just get a woman his own age, Tarantino replied: 'He likes girls!"

"She was down to party with Roman. Lets talk about it the way it was. She was down with the party, he was down with the party. I don't believe its rape for these 13-year-old party girls."

This goes way beyond fanboyism. He didn't compliment Polanski about his personality or work, he is literally blaming the victim.

Tarantino twice now has admitted to him being complicit with Weinstein. And after Thurman cleared it up and when Tarantino gave his side of the story and owned up to it being a mistake and how much he regretted it, that case is closed. Those two are good now. That should be put to rest. I recommend reading both articles. It just takes on a pattern because of the timing and we see it like that to try to link this up. It's a series of mistakes and bad things he did in his life that put together in three's look to be a pattern of him being this terrible guy. We all knew he's an egotist dick who's his own biggest fan. These are results of that. But it seems now those things are being used to inform his whole person hood. It's inside out. If anything, the thing he's guilty of is him being a self centered dick. This is what happens when you're a self centered dick.

Doesn't make what they did and said right, but when it's put up like this and this is used as a form for someone's entire career to be ruined, then that's concerning and doesn't do any favors for anybody.
Yes, read both, and then take Tarantino's word for it. Because he spends the entire time trying to minimize his actions and contradicting what Thurman said.

Moral of the story, if someone worked closely with Weinstein, that person totally likes rape and sexual abuse. Grab your pitchforks, fellas!

He knew about it and did nothing, but yeah, lets defend him because he makes cool movies!

Or how about going with the other option? Still finding his words despicable, but still liking his movies. Yeah, I'm at peace with that choice myself. lol

I do find it a bit strange that he gets more heat than Polanski himself. I mean, some are even acting like Quentin had sex with a minor (not talking about anyone on here), but ppl change. I HAVE NO DOUBT THAT SOME OF YOU IF NOT MOST OF YOU ON HERE AT SOME POINT HAVE SAID A RACIAL WORD, should we still hold you responsible if it was a stupid thing said 15 years ago? It is if you still feel that way, now has anyone asked QT if he still feels this way now? Now that his own fiance wants to have and is pushing for a baby herself? I don't know.

I rather sit on the side and wait it out like the Uma thing. I can't really condone someone for saying really stupid things 15 years before. Someone is going to ask him about it now. Till then, I'm going to be there opening day.

That is your choice, of course. But, there is no universe where he is getting more heat than Polanski. That is a ridiculous notion. Implicit in every reply against QT is disdain for Polanski and both sides admit he committed a crime. So, that is a strawman argument at best. As far as the quote, again, if it were just the quote, it would be one thing. But like I said, for me this recent pattern emerging about things we know of QT is piling up in a bad way. No longer for me is it just 1 comment that was completely stupid.

Did you know Polanski threatened to sue another possible victim last month? Did that make the headlines or trend on twitter? Nope. I'm only going by twitter tho.

I feel ya.

lawd.

I can't really tell who or what your avie is.

I didn't know that, but even so, Polanski is a symbol for everything wrong the Hollywood elite for what he did. That is his legacy, and he was unable to return to the US for fear of jail time. That is heat QT is not suffering. Therefore your comment is baseless.

I can't say anything that has "come out" about Quentin has radically altered my view of him. I already knew about his fetishes, I already knew about his obsessive nature. I like watching interviews with him because he's really passionate about film and he exudes that, but I probably couldn't stand him in real life. He has done some embarrassing **** in his career, some embarrassing **** has been done to him. An interesting character, a magnificent director and socially inept.

I meant on an online social media type scale. But this could be me going via recent events. Eh.

QT is in the news now. Polanski and what he did was YEARS ago and he has not been in the country in ages. So, that would be kind of reporting on old news. We as a society accept he is unwanted garbage. There is just no debate to be had there. This might be why your confusing things with QT, who is still more or less popular in the US. Now, I bet you circa when he won for The Pianist, social media worldwide would have been all over Polanski then and we would have been reminded constantly.

Which is why I mentioned the news of him going after another victim not even making the headlines or trending, it does seem like folks just move on to the next one, which is normal I suppose. Hell, what happened to that gossip girl guy accused of two accounts of rape? No one has followed up.

Welcome to how the news has worked basically forever, LOL!

You are of course free to make that choice, I personally haven't watched a Polanski film since I found out what he did, and Tarantino isn't getting any more of my money either, if we as a society don't hold these people accountable, then it'll just keep happening, if someone is profitable or makes a cool movie or throws a winning touchdown then there will always be someone that covers it up or accepts it like "it's ok, I didn't do it."

Pretty much. Change will come when enough people speak with their wallets.

I don't mean to be confrontational, but this is an interesting wrinkle that I haven't seen before. I'm sincerely curious: is Roman Polanski representative of all that is wrong with the Hollywood elite, or is that just convenient for the point you are trying to argue right now?

Nothing is black and white.

For instance, take Polanski: he is a Holocaust survivor who lost his parents as a boy. When you see Adrien Brody casually walking by dead bodies in The Pianist, that was Polanski as a child. Fast forward, he becomes a famous film director. Then the Manson Family murders his wife and sacrifices his unborn child to Satan. I'll write that again: they cut open his wife's womb and sacrificed the fetus to Satan while she was still alive. Then he rapes a girl in a hot tub. Then he flees the country and continues his filmmaking career elsewhere.

Symbol for everything wrong with Hollywood elites? I don't think so. His is the most insane life story I've ever heard. It's wholly unique. It's symbolic of itself, if anything.

I also mention this because I noticed you brought up Aaron Hernandez a couple pages back, and you condemned him. I get it, but were you aware that his autopsy showed that his brain was riddled with holes and covered with brown smears? The kinds consistent with someone who as been playing high-contact football since childhood? The kinds consistent with an eighty-year-old man who had been battling Alzheimer's?

Again, nothing is black and white.

I would say yes he is. Regardless of what happened to him early on in his life, what he did was awful and he ran away from facing responsibility. That is cowardice, and he has used the system since to keep making money so he could not face the consequences of his actions. So, yes. I stand by my comment. Just having been a victim of tragedy doesn't absolve you of wrong doing when you in turn do something awful.

I am aware of what the autopsy found on Hernandez. But, same can be said for Chris Benoit, and I will tell ya, I cannot watch his matches knowing what he did, regardless of circumstance. I rewatched like all of 96 and 97 era WCW Monday Nitro 2 years ago, and I had to skip all his segments because it made me feel dirty.

And I'm not going to feel guilty for supporting his new movie. Shrugs. Still think I'm alright human being by doing so too.

My wallet will say, two tickets please and a red icee, a small bag of popcorn cause I'm cutting.

This is similar to the whole "It's ok that I sell drugs and shoot up a playground because Daddy's been in jail all my life and a mommy's a crack addict." There are plenty of people that have survived horrific things in their lives and grown up in hopeless circumstances, that don't go on to act out despicable crimes on other innocent people, a tragic life is no excuse to damage others.

Yep, and people will continue abusing women and getting away with it because we as a human race accept no resoponsibility.

A lot of people knew about "it" and did nothing. But let's make Tarantino a scapegoat.

He's not being made a scapegoat, he's rightfully getting called out for being a piece of **** that damaged one woman, covered for a rapist and made excuses for another, by all means hang all of them out to dry, but he deserves zero sympathy for rightfully being brought to the fore for what he has done, pointing fingers at others doesn't lessen what he has done.

I'm not going to take responsibility that isn't mine, man. I can separate the art from the artist.
