R&B Haters

The key word in my post was modern. Old school R&B had soul, something these new "artists" are lacking.

Oh damn.
I completely missed that you said modern.
My bad.

:csad:

That, I'll agree on....mostly. I agree that today's radio-played rock and radio-played rap/hip-hop is just as bad. The thing with modern R&B though, is that it's all lyrically inept and cliched. Hip-hop and rock have so many underground and indie artists though, that actually put out quality work.

You're right.

What does most R&B consist of today?

- Girl/Boy, I can do you better than he/she can

- That stripper is hot

- Can I buy you a drank at the bar?

Though most songs focus on relationships and dating, it's become pretty much those three things as of late. Though I must say about half of it has come down to "I just wanna **** you" as opposed to "I want to be yours."

Yep, and that post was obviously T-Pain flavored haterade. :o

Modern R&B does not suck, well, not all of it.
We still have greats out there like Musiq Soulchild, Robin Thicke, Angie Stone, etc.

Greats??? Most people don't even know who these people are. They may be "good". but they are not great......

CHECK the freaking lyrics!

Yeah spot a man of freedom for a fact aah-aah uh-hum

Uhh lol...he actually said "Spider-Man and Freeze in full effect". Shouting out the producers of the song...

Old Scool R & B is ****ing kickass:

Stevie Wonder
Bob Marley
Barry White
Sam Cooke
The Supremes
The Temptations
The Four Tops
Kool & The Gang

Bob Marley and Sam Cooke didn't make R&B.

oh yes, sir. yes sir! this is a perfect example of my 99% of modern "r&b" fails. its not original, its not creative, its not unique, its got NO SOUL!!! its so manufactured and superficial, i cant even feel it.
Too true. I mean, look at Tina. She had so much soul, you could feel it in her voice. Almost no one puts that kind of heart into their singing, these days. Hell, some singers are so bad, they'd only mess up the song if they tried.

Now, people hating rap and hip-hop is somewhat understandable. But why do some people hate R&B, I mean it's just singing.

Why is people hating hip hop understandable? And if they can hate that then hating any type of music is just as understandable...

I'd be great if Craig David made comeback in the US. :csad:

Sadly, we don't appreciate the guy enough here in America.

Instead we're stuck with Chris "Run It" Brown and the rest of his untalented contemporaries. Ne-Yo's cool, and I respect his talents as a songwriter and all the things he's had to say during this recent ghostwriting 'scandal', but the rest of these flukies are just blah.

Ne-Yo's a decent songwriter--certainly better than some of his peers-- but his singing leaves something to be desired. He's not horrible, but he has a limited range, and it shows.

Yeah it would, I love him! There are also a couple other people that never really made it big that I wish had....Calvin Richardson and Xavier Aeon are the first two who come to mind.

You just summed up most of the r&b/pop singers of the last few years.

This is true...he should stick to songwriting. He's definitely got potential and can arrange a good song. Is Mario's new song written by Ne-Yo? I wish Elliott Yamin from American Idol would hook up w/Ne-Yo...that boy can sing.

I'm most excited about Keri Hilson's upcoming album. She's the chick in Timbaland's crew who's responsible for "The Way I Are" and "Miscommunication". She also wrote Omarion's tolerable "Ice Box".

Her way with a hook is pretty impressive and she definitely has shown off her own personal producing chops. I'm anxious to hear what her solo stuff will sound like. Keep an eye out.

Fame is not an indication of greatness. The most popular s**t is usually the most watered down crap out there anyway.

Who the hell told Omarion that he could sing in the first place? :down

Did Timbaland have a falling out with Ginuwine or something? G's most recent albums have been devoid of Timb's beats, and Timb hasn't been turning to G for vocals at all.

QFT.

I really like Keri Hilson and her voice.
Wasn't Keri also was behind "Scream," which featured herself, Timbaland, and Nicole (from The Pussycat Dolls)?
