R.I.P.: The Spectacular Spider-Man

I regret all the bad things I said about this show. In retrospect it was solid, and it did a lot of justice to the character. It really did redeem itself with the Goblin twist in the final episode; anything to make the Goblin an even better villain is a win for me. If there's a complete DVD set for season 2 then I'll probably pick up both seasons. Though I'd wish for a COMPLETE set. Either way, I would've loved for atleast one more season to tie the loose ends together. In the end, you can never truly say good-bye, just look at Futurama.

yea i may have not liked a few things, but in the overallness about the show was great.

Still, I won't forgive what they did to Kraven. If he were the real Kraven, he would've blown his brains out in the first episode for considering mutation.

while I didn't like Cat Kraven I forgave it due to how awesome everything else in the show was.

when the heck are they gonna release season 2 in a 2 disc set like the first season?

Thats true haha. Imagine it ended after season 1? Everyone would still think GG was Harry.

What's funny is that I actually thought that was the route they were going for with GG's identity in its first season. So glad it was still Norman though; just imagine the backlash...

I thought lion Kraven was cool.

That's actually a spoiler pic for the reboot...that's MJ in the background hiding behind the tree as Kraven starts to battle it out against Spider-Man.

Sorry for the spoilers guys

I also wasn't too big of a fan of making Montana into Shocker, but I guess to save time on introducing other characters, it worked well.

I also think the duo of Marko and O'Hirn is brilliant.

Never watched the show but going to now...art is fantastic:)By one of my fav artists..too bad it was cancelled:(

yea it was a good show while it lasted. The main deal in my book is it just came out at the wrong time. With season 1 we had kids wb/cw kids block ending and then the whole disney/marvel merger it just throw things into a big mess.

I'm actually wondering if the reason (or one of them) for Sony deciding to kill Spectacular may have been that it drew inspiration from the Raimi movies. Axe one, axe the other.

SSM was a victim to poor timing. Had the show been made a couple years earlier then it had would have lasted longer.

Had it went to Cartoon Network instead of Disney XD it still would have been canceled.

Had it went to Nicktoons TV instead of Disney XD it still would have been canceled.

Had Disney never bought Marvel it still would have been canceled.

If Disney hadn't announced a new Spider-man show of their own it still would have been canceled.

If Raimi was still doing SM4 and there was no reboot it still would have been canceled.

Knowing that they had planned a solid 5 seasons, and thinking of the kind of person Greg Weisman is (especially with Gargoyles), I could have seen this becoming the all new and improved 90s Spider-Man (in a way).

yea it so could have and i would have loved it lasted long. but i too been saying it just came out at the wrong time. With kids wb/cw ending, to the disney/marvel merger it was just the wrong time. which sucks.

But we might not have gotten the same great show if it came out later. The time it came out effected its length, but if it came out now or earlier, it would've been different based on the fanbase likes and dislikes at the time, or different thought patterns in the storytelling in the time. It would've been different, for better or worse, and I think we should appreciate what we got at the time it was released.

If it started earlier some things I think might a been a bit different is Sandman's debut since that episode used some elements from SM3.

You base this theory on what?

Wouldn't it be great if Queada left Marvel and was replaced by Greg Weisman? I think the current Marvel comic book output, when compared with SSM, clearly shows that Wesiman has a far more competent handle on the Spider Man corner of the MU than Joe does.

Not likely to happen as much as some hate joe q he has done some good things too and has good place in company right now. Plus I am sure disney doesn't want to screw around with publisher right now.

Futurama isn't likely to be revamped with a different creative team and the original show swept under the rug. Alas, Spectacular is just another casualty of the reboot hysteria.

One thing I really liked was the approach to the symbiote saga. It seemed to give us the best of both worlds.

Well not techinally its downfall was more to do with kids wb going and the marvel disney merge then the reboot.
