As an answer to this threads initial question: yes that is a stupid thing to censor.

All censorship is stupid, but this instance is one of the worst.

I am apathetic on whether the word was racist or not, but it sure is ******ed. Who the f*** says "coon dog"? If you poll 100 people asking what their favorite dog is, who is actually going to say "...oh, a coon dog."

Coon is a funny word because even though some use it as a racial epithet, it sounds too funny to be racist and that's why only hicks who live in the boonies use that word like that.
