Venom RATE and REVIEW the teaser trailer of VENOM

I thought they had to show a shot of Venom to get people hyped and they didn't
I know it was meant as a tease but this is a movie nobody wanted and ask for so they needed to make a splash and didn't

I gave it a 5 just on Hardy alone but it looks like whatever

That was horrible. I don't think anyone realistically expected a full hero shot of Venom but nothing about it was really unique.

What's really bad is that the Deadpool 2 trailer that came out yesterday opened in the same manner as this teaser, but it at least it was self-aware enough to stop in the middle of it to point out how serious it was being.

If I didn't know what the movie was about I would have thought it was another generic action/thriller. The execution reminded me a lot of the Annihilation trailer.

This was the definition of a tease. It seems like the studio knows the only thing fans want to see is Venom so they intentionally withheld any shots of the symbiote in action. But, there's smart marketing and then there's just dicking the potential audience around. It's like they don't know that the whole point of trailers is to get people interested, not irritate them.

I have to say I was expecting more from this movie, visually. The cinematography was very cold and generic, not something I expected from a genre movie with Tom Hardy in it. I suppose I've just gotten used to seeing him in well shot stuff like Mad Max, Taboo or any of his Nolan films.

This looks like a comic book movie from the early 2000s, and that is not a compliment. It seems like after the success of Homecoming Sony thought they could go back to their normal routine when it comes to pumping out Spider-Man movies, and they somehow didn't realize the only reason that film worked was because the creative side was all handled by Marvel Studios.

But then I didn't think this film would be any good, seeing as how I very much dislike Zombieland & Gangster Squad or any of the films the writers have made.

It looked as if it belonged to Garfields' Spider-Man Universe.

5/10.

Yeah, it did.

I literally lost hype after that teaser.

What did they even hope to achieve with this? The movie is still like 8 months away and MCU starts it's marketing 5 months prior and it works perfectly. Why not just wait?

I don't know. I think the "horrible"/"killed my hype" comments are silly hyperbole about a teaser for a movie eight months away (you shouldn't have expected much tbh), but then that raises the point that it might not have even needed released in the first place.

The teaser itself is neither good nor bad, IMO, it's just kind of "there", but apart from people raptly following the marketing or maybe Tom Hardy fans who eat up everything he does, no one is gonna remember it months from now when we get an actual full trailer anyway, so it releasing now was just superfluous.

In a peak superhero year with seven - SEVEN!!- films featuring Marvel characters on the release schedule, having a severely undercooked teaser like this be your target audience's first look is completely unacceptable.

Exactly. What's the point? Same with the Hardy photo. What did that do for anyone?

If you're not going to show me something exciting then you're not ready to release a teaser.

The marketing for this has been kind of unintentionally amusing with how nonexistent it is.

A poster that's just the title in the shape of Venom's eyes and mouth, a still of Tom Hardy doing nothing in particular, and an Instagram that's nothing but Tom Hardy posting selfies and might as well be his own Instagram, lol.

They better kick it up several notches when they get closer to October.

They gotta show a little more if they wanna pique general audience interest. Otherwise, they'll just think it's another horror offering.

I know it's just a teaser, but other teasers aren't exactly holding back in this game. Why? To grab GA attention from the get go. If cgi wasn't ready, we'll u just push teaser back a little imo.

The lack of Venom in a Venom teaser is um, disappointing. Really standard trailer, not much else to it. - 5 / 10

Why was tom playing with himself in the mri? Does he not know that he should keep still?

Other than that we got a bloke walking. Then on a bike with a car crash. Some desks moved about. There was some of that stuff you put on speakers that dances when you put the base on kept in a jar.

Early teaser that i will forget tomorrow.

Hope it's good cause i love tom. See what the next one looks like.

1/10

Very, very underwhelming & disappointing teaser. Random short shots of Tom Hardy that could be cut from footage from any of his movies & the complete lack of any, even vague, shots of Venom.

A lame pointless teaser trailer with Tom Hardy adopting a goofy voice.

A logo teaser with just some voice-over and ending with the Venom voice saying, "WE ARE VENOM" would've better than this.

Why did Sony release a teaser like this now? The editing was bad and it just looked like a generic thriller starring Tom Hardy. B's line about how this could've been random shots cut from any Tom Hardy movie is hilariously accurate.

Come on. People really gave this a one star? The teaser was not that bad to warrant a 1.

Counter argument: It was, indeed, that bad. Other than some goop in a tube the teaser didn't show you anything about the film Sony is expecting you to spend your hard earned cash on. In an era of peak Superhero with 6 other Marvel character films vying for your movie going dollar the Venom teaser is the definition of a hard fail.

I wished they could have shown a quick snippet of the character in full transformation, but overall it very much reminded me of the trailers of Carpenter's Prince of Darkness and Cronenberg's Scanners, which is what they have stated is what they're going for, and so I think it delivered what I was expecting.

I got everything I expected to get considering they just finished filming this. I really liked what they showed. I'll give the teaser an 8.5. Hyped, but still a ton of mystery about this. That's what teasers should do.

I do wonder what the point is with this. You aren't creating any excitement or intrigue. Just kind of saying "oh hey, this is going to be a movie."

But hey, I really interested in this movie existing anyways. So this teaser not helping to change that feeling isn't a shock. It's a mediocre teaser. It literally only exists to tell people that it exists.

Saw John Campea's trailer review. He seems to love it at least. I can't say I agree. I honestly don't get the horror vibe he does. To me it's more the tension of a thriller. I got more sense of horror from the Spider-man 3 trailer where we saw Venom jump Spider-man and grab him by the head.

That was...pointless. I guess the plan is to show this before Black Panther? I suppose that makes sense, given that BP looks like a runaway hit so they’ll get maximum eyeballs, but sheesh, you couldn’t produce anything better? Looks like a preview for an ep of Supernatural.

On the bright side, there’s nowhere to go from here but up.

Yeah, there is definite bias involved, but as someone who desperately wants the Marvel Universe all under one roof, I can understand it. That being said there is no way this warrants a 1 imho. I'm obviously on an island here having given it an 8.5 rating, but I'm more then comfortable being there. Too much talent here for me to just brush this aside for a mere teaser.
