Venom RATE and REVIEW the teaser trailer of VENOM

5. It's just a total "shrug". It's an "I'll probably check it out on Netflix in 2 years' time" type of thing - doesn't even look particularly awful, just that there's no reason to care here.

Yeah, you can argue whether it whetted your appetite or not, which is fair, you can do this for any full trailer as well, but this teaser got it's basic points and premise across to me and that's all I'm looking for (and need) in a teaser. It's gotten me excited. :word:

Same. And I honestly agree with people that overall it felt or looked like a somewhat generic, run-of-the-mill sci-fi thriller. But this was just the very first released footage, the first introduction to the mere idea and existence of a Venom movie.

Now if the first full trailer, or later trailers leave me feeling the same way, then hell yeah I'll be tearing this thing apart. But I'll at least wait until seeing those to start writing this movie off.. And I also think there's a very low chance the real trailers for this movie will leave anyone feeling that way

Yeah, we all want different things, so a 4 or 5 score is pretty reasonable for this, especially considering it was put together in a rather typical fashion. Beyond that it seems unwarranted to be trashing this unless you were ready to do it anyway.

This film may in fact turn out to be a giant turd, but I'll never actively root for a film with this talent to fail, or completely write it off until I see reviews and/or seen it myself. Especially for a character I'm a big fan of. I've been skeptical of similar situations in the past, but I like the creative ingredients here much much more. Still on board the hype train.

Definitely. It's certainly not something to get you crazy hyped, but certainly not something to trash and instantly write off as garbage either.

Imo, this was more a teaser for the first trailer. Not so much for the film. It has me extremely excited to see the first actual trailer for it

And like you said, there's a lot of upside and potential in the ingredients for this movie. Not something I would easily write off, and especially not after seeing a little innocuous teaser trailer for it

We still get to see the actual Venom! The movie's 8 months away, I'm glad they haven't shown any of it yet. Plus, I'm sure his finished voice and finished visuals are far from completed in any one clip or scene, so it wouldn't make sense for them to showcase them yet. And in reality much better they don't, and have people really tearing into them for it. Because you know they would

colour me intrigued :D i kind of like that they haven't shown venom yet
like everyone i would've liked a glimpse but understandable that they have only finished filming recently and the cgi/voice is probably still being worked on

the venom face logo they used at the end got me hyped tbh

2. I’ve literally forgotten 90% of it already. It doesn’t scream Venom nor interesting horror film yet.

This is all I was looking for, a sense of tone and a bit of insight in terms of where they are taking Eddie's character. I like where they seem to be headed with this.

And yeah, people are now aware that a Venom film is on the way.

The fact that Eddie is an adult who has seemingly been through several traumatic events, including a possible divorce. I can wait to see the look of a complete Venom since we've already gotten an actor who actually looks like Brock and what seems like an understanding of what primed Eddie to become Venom even before he met Spidey.

I find these Teasers quite pointless. Gimme the damn thang already!

They didn't have to show me Venom out and out but I would've liked to have seen more than what was shown. As of right now this movie is only V and not really Venom to me.

Sony really needed to get this right to build back geek cred and they didn't. If anything it's increased Marvel's leverage with them to control quality.

For this to even have been considered for release it should've included just a quick shot of Venom or the transformation, something that actually teases the visual of the title character in the film. They're rushing the film in a knee jerk reaction to Deadpool and its starting to show.

Venom teaser trailer with literally zero Venom = 1/10

ZER0

I ended my ranking with a number zero for an oh, not cause I think it's funny, just cause I want to.

They did tease Venom or at least Brock with the symbiote/the transformation. At first I thought it might have just been shadows of veins or a trick of the light since no one else was talking about it, but after rewatching a few times I'm 100% certain that in the very last shot of him screaming on the MRI bed, black tendrils start creeping up his neck

I'm really really surprised more people aren't noticing/mentioning this

It might not be a glimpse of 'Venom' but it's definitely something. And I'm still in the camp of believing they didn't have to show any Venom or his voice. Just convey the tone of it and that it's actually in production with Tom

Remember TDK teaser with no Batman?

Teasers can be literally anything.. Words, pictures, sounds, VO's

I'm not saying this teaser was awesome or anything, just that there's no set guidelines for what a teaser should be, or needs to show

This was actually more footage than I expected

Remember TDK teaser with no Batman?

Bad comparison. We already knew what Batman looked like. Same with the Joker. We had been given official released pics of them. So only hearing their voices worked.

Haha, can't remember such low average ratings for a trailer on here.

I'll give you that the black tendrils are there. But it just wasn't done well. For all the initial negativity Sony's taken they should've finished the transformation in that shot shown the face and ended it rather than ending on Eddie having a seizure. Otherwise it might not be the transformation. We still can't tell from this if Venom is the bad guy, the anti-hero, or something else.

It didn’t even need to be much. Venom’s hulking silhouette... a close up of some razor sharp teeth... a black clawed hand...

Anything would have done.

You can’t sell a product without showing at least something of the product.

Venom is #2 on trending on Youtube.

So far on the official Sony Pictures Entertainment channel, Venom currently has 161k likes to 19k dislikes. On JoBlo the trailer has 861 likes and 89 dislikes. The 4K version has 476 likes and 27 dislikes. On Movieclips Trailers it has 34k likes and 2k dislikes.

Seems to me this is hardly a universally hated teaser and has done a pretty decent job at gaining traction in the marketplace.

I wouldn't put too much stock in YT likes or dislikes. The Sony page has nearly 8 million views, but can only muster 161k likes and around 30k comments. The actual engagement seems to be far less than the actual views.

Most channels have more views then actual ratings. I've watched trailers a ton of times without rating it on Youtube. I'm just giving some context here. These ratings speak for themselves.

Yeah I've seen general optimism concerning it. And most commonly, people being like 'Woah, Tom Hardy's making a Venom movie?!"

Which was my initial impression about the motives for this teaser. Demonstrating a tone, and simply making the general public aware that this movie with Hardy is even happening

Obviously for us, people who have known about it for a long time, and have been eagerly waiting for a glimpse of Venom, this was hugely disappointing. But for everyone else, who had no idea this project even existed, they're not disappointed about not seeing the big reveal in a teaser

Just saying that likes/dislikes on a YT don't give much context. They're not a great indicator that people in general like the trailer, just that out of 8 million views only 161k people liked that video. I'm certainly not seeing that reflected when people speak about the trailer.

On the 20th Century Fox channel Deadpool, Meet Cable has 15 million views yet only 331 k votes (326 k likes, 5 k dislikes). The majority of people usually don't vote on these things, but the ratings are often reflective of the general consensus in my experience. Like anything on the internet there is always a troll factor which can skew things but pretty good overall.
