I've got my copy and I'm about to pop it in. What are your thoughts everybody?

I got it early this afternoon and watched the movie and some of the features. Features all look great, but I'll watch all of them later.

The movie was better than the theatrical version. More story with the characters and makes you care about them more, especially Thing. The main titles sequence was awesome. The music from the main titles was a bit different from the CD Score version, which sounded cool anyway.

The scenes that were cut really didn't need to be. I wish it had more action in it still, but it's better than the original for sure in my opinion.

Original: 7.5/10
Extended: 8.5/10

:ff:

I liked all the new scenes, but there were some serious editing problems. The biggest of these is the Reed/Sue scene before he has his fight with Ben. They have the exact same conversation twice. It's like they didn't even watch it before they threw it back in. It really took me out of the movie.

Yeah they could've picked one or the other.

And Reed turning into Wolverine; that was funny on the original DVD's deleted scenes, because it was a thing for X-Men fans, but it looked fake. Him turning to Wolverine and back I mean.

I liked the other one better, where his jaw got bigger. Wolverine isn't a manly strong man, he's an animal!:cmad::p

The extended cut is a better movie. But thats not saying that much. It is better than the normal cut as it paces a lot better and gives the movie more room to breath.

Some scenes should have stayed in for characterization....The Alicia "party" scene was a gem...if it was made better. The dusting and washing part was awkward to watch....

All the flaws from the theater cut are still there but the added dramatic scenes (you almost get the feeling that is the reason why Fox cut them - they wanted more kiddy-comedy - stupid Rothman!) certainly helped to diminish their presence. Additional editing mistake was having Ben looking at the old video then going out for the night and then...it's sudenly daytime with Johnny watching the Xgames and skipping outta the Baxter. The scene of Ben should've been right before he headed to Ernie's. And they should've used the planetarium scene and left out the one that came after it. And I loved the scene with Vic and Johnny in the limo and especially the one of Johnny in the bar! Great stuff!

Haven't watched the movie yet, I've been watching the special features disc.

"The World's Greatest Comic Magazine" is a pretty cool documentary that features all the major creators (with the notable exception of John Byrne, whose run is mentioned), decade by decade, talking about their experiences working on the comic. Great for hard-core FF fans and comic book readers in general.

"From Comic Book To Film" compared moments from the movie to comic panels, both classic and recent. It's only a few minutes long, but brought back fond memories of a certain thread from the old days. This could/should have been included on the original DVD.

Next up - Jack Kirby: Storyteller :ff: :hulk: :cyclops: :thing: :D

The new beginning sequence was incredible, and I really liked how they showed them all still in space. I also liked when they showed the plant that was taken up to space for research change. It made it feel like Spider-Man I think.

The scenes that should've been left out was the scene with Reed and Sue in the storage place. When the whole rack started to fall, Reed looked SO fake when he stretched. After that, the movie kinda started to slow down. They didn't need all of the extra scenes that were put in except for Johnny and Doom, and the bar scene. Still, the extended addition was wayy better than the original cut.

Orignial Cut: 7/10
Extended Cut: 9/10

I agree with the sentiments that (1) the second date scene (after the planetarium) was not only redundant, but the Wolverine shift was a HUGE mistake to have left in; (2) the "cosmic chamber" table explanation scene was rendered a little moot by the scene of Reed and Sue in the storage room.

As for the other scenes, I love all of them, especially the nod to the Puppet Master, and Johnny's experiences in the bar. I'm a little miffed that a lot of the Ben/Doom diner scene was cut.

Just started the features disc as well, and so far its cool. I give the Extended Cut of the film an 8.5 / 10 overall, but an 11 when compared to the theatrical version.

Lets start with the bad:

1 - Doom is still not Doom (though he is somewhat improved).
2 - The two scenes with Sue and Reed are nearly identical. One of them should have been cut.

What improved:
1 - The character development. It was amazing how much character stuff was cut. The Johnny bar scene I think was the best new scene.
2 - The plot made more sense. We see how he was able to get info on the storm to recreate it, and prior tests with the machine.

Overall, a definite improvement. Still could use a little work, but it is much better. Worth every penny spent! Plus, I haven't even gotten to the special features yet!

I too felt Doom was somehow improved. I can't quite put my finger on why other than the extended pace of the film may have made him feel more menacing.

Precisely.

He had a couple more manipulative moments and bits of anger that were Doomesque, but still not there (the scene in the limo with Johnny, the restaurant scene with Sue).

Doom is improved here, but still not comic Doom. Not even close.

I as well thought Doom was improved. You saw his progression more before he finally put on the mask. You saw the malice in the restaurant with Sue and adding in the Johnny scene made it a lot more evil genius. Him just manipulating Ben is just him stripping away Ben from protecting Reed. However throw in Johnny and you see him meticulously picking apart at the group's weaknesses and dividing them. It also helped me realize that he probably planned on Ben's outburst on pushing Reed to go into the chamber and it wasn't just an added bonus. He was playing a few steps ahead.

This is the dvd we should have gotten for the first release. The bonus features are great, esp the history of the comic book and on Jack Kirby.

ONLY disappointments are using the Wolverine scene and not leaving it as a gag deleted scene, and we still have not seen the cat in the tree scene. I was looking forward to that scene.

This Extended version breathes a lot better. My favorite scene has to be the intimate moment where Susan is reading fanmail and tries to share what she's learned with absent-minded Reed.

And the opening sequence was BRILLIANT. Why oh why did FOX cut it? I think it's the first FOX CBM that had full-fledged credits and I love the CGI styling. I have a hunch it was created by the same studio that's doing the opening for FF2.

I remembered this when the final battle started and I was hoping it'd be in.

I remembered if from the TV spots, and the TV spots are on the DVD with this shot.

There's a shot of Dr. Doom walking all badass in front of an explosion. What happened to that?:(:down

Out of curiousity, was the press conference scene shown in the trailers put back into the movie?

No, it wasn't- it was one of two alternative opening sequences they were planning on and instead of using those they chose just to go straight to the movie instead.

All on the commentary.

That was honestly my favorite character moment scene out of the entire movie. That should've stayed in.

I enjoyed the extended version of Fantastic Four. The opening sequence was fantastic - reminded me of the Spider-Man openings. There were some really great deleted character moments that I believe should've been kept in the film. My only quips:

*Mr. Fantastic is not Mystique. They should've left that 'Wolverine' scene out, and kept the original.
*The Doom/Johnny scene in the limo felt dirty. Its tone felt out of place, and was too suggestive.
*The two scenes of Sue/Reed on their date were incredibly repetitive. In both the planitarium (SP?) and when they're outside, they have very similar conversations.
*The Alicia/Ben scene when she cleans him up (with that music) was kinda cheesy, but the shout-out to Alicia's step dad was cool

Overall, I felt it made the film more enjoyable. 8/10

Oh yeah...the tv spots on disc 1 are basically all the same. They should've chose drastically different tv spots, lol.

HI GUYS, I SAW THE FILM LAST NIGHT, I ENJOYED THIS ONE EVEN MORE THAN THE ORIGINAL CUT!!! IT HAS SOME FLAWS, LIKE SOME HAVE MENTIONED, BUT ALL THE INTIMATE MOMENTS REALLY FLESHED OUT THE STORY, NOT TO MENTION THERE ARE SOME GREAT DOCUMENTARIES IN THE SECOND DISC, COOL STUFF, 9.5/10!!!:yay::D:up:

The interesting thing about the commentary is the very beginning when Mark Frost begins discussing the history of Doom in the comics....who knew he actually knew the history of Doom and even says something to the effect of that his comic book story would make a great movie by itself...so they knew his history but felt it would not adapt well into a movie.....wow.....

If I knew how to make a movie, had the resources, and could legally do it, I would definately make a movie about Victor Von Doom. His origin would make a fabulous movie. He's is one of the characters I'd want to do myself (if I had the know how).

I fully agree, the opening was REALLY well done. It puzzles me as to why this wasn't in the original when it was far better.

My only quips:

*Mr. Fantastic is not Mystique. They should've left that 'Wolverine' scene out, and kept the original.

Yeah the Johnny in the limo scene seemed kind of uncomfortable, Johnny even looked like he felt odd with the chicks. Now don't get me wrong, it's a good scene to further show Victor's manipulations and Julian carried it off well but it does feel out of place. I also didn't like the Wolverine scene and the CG where Reed protects Sue from the book case, it looked way too rough to keep in and it seemed kind of unnecessary.

I liked the smaller additions like the Reed/Sue scene with the fanmail and the scenes with Ben and Alicia, Victor with Susan in the restaurant as well as the Johnny in the bar ones were fantastic and added depth to the characters. The only thing I was really disappointed in was no extra scenes with Dr. Doom and his battle with the FF since that could have really earned more time. I wasn't expecting some radical new scene insertions but little things to improve the Doom of this movie. In the end it's not a big deal because they seem to be improving Doom alot with the next movie which makes this one a "year one" Doom.

Disc 2 though is where all the really great stuff is extras wise. Both the "Greatest Comic Magazine" and "Making of the FF" are incredibly interesting and well made. I smiled ear to ear whenever I saw Stan meeting the characters and just seeing all the other creators talk about their runs, especially Mark Waid's description of Reed.

The Jack Kirby feature is really good as well since you see input from a ton of comic artists and fans who have alot of respect for him and his artwork. Another fun feature was the "comics collectibles" head statues that Alex Ross displayed. They looked amazing and seemed both like a 3 dimensional Jack Kirby drawing while still maintaining realistic touches in the eyes and face.

All in all not all of the added scenes were truly special but the movie does feel more complete and improved with them. Whenever I see the movie I think I'll be watching the extended cut but I still feel kind of odd seeing them after seeing it so much in the theatrical.

Theatrical movie: 7/10
Extended movie cut: 8.5/10
Extras and package: 10/10

*Mr. Fantastic is not Mystique. They should've left that 'Wolverine' scene out, and kept the original.
But technically, wouldn't his simple stretching powers allow him to stretch his face to look like somebody else? It hardly seems that wrong.
