Oh, and when did average become good?

I think they are objecting to him being able to change hair and facial hair somehow.

Yeah, I said he wasn't Mystique, because he somehow was able to add facial hair, and more hair to his head in that scene. His powers don't work like that. The theatrical version, when he just extends his chin (or something) made more sense.

Yet, ultimately, it was rather pointless.

At least the Wolverine thing had a comedic effect to it.

I guess he could stretch the hair on his sideburns or whatever.

Still, I liked the jaw thing better.

I enjoyed the new cut. I do prefer it over the theatrical version. I have yet to watch disc 2 though, which I plan to do. And, I intend to put that ROTSS ticket to good use.:word:

Finally watched it last night - I think the extended cut's flow was so much better. What a shame that these characterizations were cut for the theatrical version. I can't imagine what the reasoning was...

Shorter runtime = more showings = more $$$

That is why.

I watched the extended edition yesterday and I can say that I was disappointed, because I expected more. Nevertheless it makes a more complete film and the characters are more developed. There is only one thing that pisses me off and I see some people here feel the same way. I really didn't like the scene with Reed and Sue at a shore during a dawn??, not only because of the Wolverine thing, but that scene is not meant to be there. Put aside that they have very similar conversation with the scene before that, but did anybody notice the horrible way the scenes with Ben and Victor in the cafe and the scenes with Reed and Sue were inserted without any plan. When Ben and Victor are inside the cafe there is a storm outside, now when we shift to Reed and Sue we didn't know what was the weather like outside, because that one shot of the planetarium didn't give much information, but now with this extended scenes it is just terrible to watch that transaction. They are outside and it appears that it is dawn and clear when we have the Wolverine effect. But then when we return to Ben and Victor the storm is out there and it still is nighttime. In my opinion this scene destroys the whole film and I still can't believe they didn't think of it at all and put it there without any plan or thought.

Okay, so I watched the Kirby documentary last night. Great stuff. I would have liked to hear more from Stan about their work together, but I guess they put that stuff in the FF comic documentary.

Nice to see the King's wife Roz (the Queen??) get some of the respect she deserves, as well.

I loved the scene with Vic and Johnny in the limo and especially the one of Johnny in the bar! Great stuff!

ALL of the bonus Johnny stuff should have been included in the theatrical cut. The "hot" elevator stuff is hilarious.

ALL of the Ben & Alicia stuff NEEDED to be included as well. Those scenes are just so perfect and should never have even been considered for removal.

I found the director/producer commentary to be fascinating. The BIG problem I see is with executive producer Kevin Fiege. His take on the characters was quite good at times but his references were always to the Jack Kirby/Stan Lee FF. His vision seems to have no modern FF sensibilities whatsoever. He was responsible for billionaire businessman Doom. He thinks Doom being Latverian is "too cheesy" and that Doom "knows Reed is smarter" then him. He describes Doom as petty and vain. After one comment about Doom, I found myself talking to my TV screen... "Someone get this guy a few John Byrne FF issues to read for cripes sake." All his knowledge seems to stem from pre-1970's stuff. The characters have grown so much more complex over the years and it's only common sense to know that and adapt yourself.

Overall, this is a great DVD. I'd buy it for the bonus disc alone. Add the free movie ticket to FF2 (I got TWO stuck togther!) plus a free 7-11 slurpie and this thing pays for itself.

After reading some reviews of the new cut, I'm in no hurry to buy it.

But Reed has the ability to stretch his entire body....this includes hair. So, stretching certain hairs out so that he looks like he has large sideburns is well within his range of abilities.

I think it's funnier with just the big chin, instead of the Wolverine face.

Hey, I said I thought that was what they objected to not me.

I did just finish watching more of the features on disk 2 and I have to say...I'm blown away by this release so far. Not only is the movie improved, but the docs on the Surfer, the FF comic and Jack Kirby are incredible. Very informative. I'd buy those things if they were stand alone features. It almost felt like they were producing these great documentaries and thought, "hey, let's throw in an exteneded edition of the FF movie too."
This release is the kind of stuff that comic fans (whom Fox knows are the people that will buy the movie the second time around) really want in their DVDs. I'm glad I decided to pick this up.

was anything cut from the theatrical version for this extended edition?

This Extended version breathes a lot better. My favorite scene has to be the intimate moment where Susan is reading fanmail and tries to share what she's learned with absent-minded Reed.

And the opening sequence was BRILLIANT. Why oh why did FOX cut it? I think it's the first FOX CBM that had full-fledged credits and I love the CGI styling. I have a hunch it was created by the same studio that's doing the opening for FF2.
Pic Agency (Ghost Rider) is the company that created the title sequence for FF1. I can think of a few reasons why they're not doing FF2's.

You can always rent it.;)

I can't believe they included both the original version of date as well as the scene that was specifically shot to replace it in this new version. Having the characters repeat the same damn dialogue and even movements in two consecutive scenes makes the editor look like an idiot of epic proportions. The fact that they tossed in the horribly-done, lame "Wolverine" morph, and then managed to insert some of the other scenes OUT OF ORDER (the dinner with Victor and Sue does NOT go there)... then failed to re-edit existing material to coincide with the new stuff (despite the fact that Victor's scenes where he manipulates the entire team away from Reed to get him alone are now back in the film, the insert voiceover where he talks about JUST getting rid of Ben, the "bodyguard," is still present!).... man, this thing is a total freaking mess of a new version. And there's so much potential to improve the movie with the raw materials they had, but they blew it. Bad.

Can someone put footage from the Extended Edition on YouTube?
