I like the suit, but my criticisms are that I don't like the the big eyes, it makes the suit look more childish, makes Spiderman look a preteen (13 yrs. old). Just put Justin Bieber in the suit! I don't like the darker red, I don't like the heals on the boots as well. I don't like the shiny red material.

Watch after I see the trailers I'll end up changing my tune on the suit. :p

I totally agree with you about the big alien eyes making the suit feel more childish. The big cartoony eyes are my biggest issue with the new suit as well, and I also don't like the shiny red material, feels like a cheap 1970's material.

I might warm to the suit design over time, it's not terrible. But I'll miss the TASM suit which I loved.

Those eyes are better than the pee colored alien eyes.

I'll agree I never liked the eye lenses being gold/yellow in TASM, but in most of the movie it actually looked silver to me, which looked very cool.

Well, it proves that they slapped better eyes and the TASM-style spider on a Raimi costume.
Not really, the torso itself is more sleek and slimmer like TASM. The webs also seem closer to TASM in design than Raimi's, they're only very slightly raised and that pic Webb poster just emphasizes it a lot.

I couldn't care less if Webb used any of the exact costumes Tobey wore from Raimi's movies, it's a more accurate costume to the comics than what we got in TASM. This new costume looks fantastic and most importantly is a definitive spider-man costume and some people are crying because it looks to similar to Raimi's? What's wrong with you people? Why is it an issue? What because TASM movies are supposed to distance themselves from Raimi's movies? Well, we obviously have different actors and a different tone, what more do you want? Erik Larsen, Luke Ross, Mark Bagley and Todd McFarlane all had very similar styles in how they drew spidey so why should it be any different when it comes to how the suit looks in the movie. The end result is, the costume is definitive spidey and every one here will just have to deal with it.

While watching the movie, the lenses did not look yellow
I expect no less from this movie

I like the idea that he has so dramatically improved the suit. It's re-enforces the idea that he never intended to stay as Spider-Man beyond catching the guy who killed Uncle Ben so he just threw a suit together but the events of the first movie have left him totally committed so he made a proper costume.

I hope it's not that IMO.

My problem is that they didn't take a lot of what worked for TASM suit. Despite the details that didn't sit right with some people, TASM's suit looked like a SUIT, mainly because it looked athletic and aerodynamic. It looked like it was meant for acrobatic movements, flying/swinging through the city, and taking some damage. It looked practical while still maintaining the core visual elements of Spidey's classic look. TASM's suit made Raimi's suits look like cosplay suits despite the fact that Raimi's suits were more visually faithful/accurate to the source material.

Now TASM2's suit reverted back to Raimi's basic look with the satin finish and straightforward design elements. About the only things it took from TASM's suit are the spidey insignia and the way the webbing curves. Everything else is reminiscent of Raimi's suits despite the minor differences in texture and webbing. Therefor, we went from the suit in TASM looking like a practical and athletic suit, to something that looks made for a comic book convention.

What's wrong with you people?
What do you mean, "you people"???

What because TASM movies are supposed to distance themselves from Raimi's movies?
Well, they already did that with TASM...so why go and make something that's reminiscent of the Raimi films?

Well, we obviously have different actors and a different tone, what more do you want?
For the sequel to be consistent with TASM as much as possible.

Erik Larsen, Luke Ross, Mark Bagley and Todd McFarlane all had very similar styles in how they drew spidey so why should it be any different when it comes to how the suit looks in the movie.
The only real similarity between those artists styles are that they drew Spidey with big eyes, which was the trend in the 90's. Bagley's style is WAAYY different than McFarlane's. McFarlane had a very gritty, dirty style while Bagley was pretty mainstream. Erik Larsen's style was considerably different than McFarlane's since McFarlane used a lot of curves while drawing his characters while Larsen's visuals were more angular. The only thing those 2 really had in common besides big eyed Spidey are the poses they drew Spidey in.

Those artists you name, even though they drew Spidey with big eyes, had significantly different styles. However, they had to draw Spider-Man over and over and over again, and in 2D. Here, we're dealing with something practical and 3d. There are HUNDREDS of ways to realize a faithful Spider-Man suit without copying what Raimi did. So other than studio influence/interference, there's no reason to have used a design that is reminiscent of that era of Spidey films.

The end result is, the costume is definitive spidey and every one here will just have to deal with it.
Well...as it stands, the look of the definitive Spider-Man suit looks like a COSTUME meant to look faithful instead of a suit meant to look practical AND faithful.

Like the Batpod I hope the reason for the suit upgrade is the previous version got absolutely trashed. Fingers crossed for an epic opening credits with Rhino. I will be very disappointed if the movie opens with this new costume i.e. the upgrade happens off screen. The Batpod and New Batsuit were upgraded in the movie not between movies.

9/10

My only knock is the color scheme. Had they stuck with the shades of blue and red used for the TAS suit, this costume would have been perfect up and down the board.

I was just giving you a hard time. I like the suit just fine. Especially the eyes.

Same, I like the new suit but incorparating the colours and texture from the first suit would have turned a 9/10 costume into a 10/10 costume (imho).

I learned my lesson the first time. I though the suit before was horrible and by extension, the movie would be the same. Then I saw it and ate my words. I think this suit will rival the Raimi costume as one of the best in live action yet.

The new costume is, on it's own, fantastic. The problem is that there is no real carry over from the first film. There is no visual continuity, and that is jarring.

Even if the over all aesthetic of the film is retained, the suit will likely stand out as incongruous, at least when viewing it as a continuation on the first film.

It's like if, in The Dark Knight, they suddenly had him wearing a suit far more reminiscent of Burton's. It would just be jarring.

Similarly, imagine if, in Batman Returns, they kept all the production design and feel of Batman '89, but suddenly Batman was driving one of the Schumacher Batmobiles, florescent lights and all. Kind of moving in the opposite direction, in terms of quality of design, but the contrast is the comparison.

I really wish they would have kept the material the first suit was made of. It looked more durable, the new one looks like the slightest thing would mess it up.

And it isn't because of the set photos, look at the difference:

See the difference? I love the new lenses though. And the blue parts still look fine. It's the material the red parts are made of that I dislike.

No, I won't imagine, because it's idiotic in logic. Why, because the masses won't care.

Some said something similar to this, so I hope -at least- the costume change is explained

The red part looks great to these eyes.

Well I mean, after Peter made the "spandex.. Everything's spandex" comment, it seems kinda dumb that now he's wearing thin shiny spandex on the red parts. The red parts of the ASM suit looked more durable.

Yet, it's still spandex. I think people are trying desperately NOT to like the classic suit, I'm having a ball watching the very people who begged for the classic costume somehow become upset, because now they're getting it. Fanboys, they never cease to amaze me.
