Now that the first screening has been shown, this is the Rate and Review thread for SHH! board members.

How do you edit the original post to make a poll?

Hey...I'm usually the one who makes this kind of thread!

:D;)

And yeah, a poll is a definite must.

EDIT: Now there is a poll.

im hoping we get some good reviews keeping my fingers crossed.

this poll is fine for us posters, but I would rather have a seperate thread for the critics reviews......thanks for making the thread.....looks good.

I'm glad this poll was made public. That way if we have an attention ****e who wants to vote "terrible" just out of spite (without seeing the movie) we'll be able to give them proper credit. :o

But for now, let's close it and then reopen it next Thursday. It's a bit premature at nearly 2 weeks out. Those who might see it earlier than that can post their opinion in the new "Critics Review" thread.

I agree....I have a review thread for us to post critics reviews and we can add our own here after its opened...

OK guys, just bringing this poll back to the front page, it will be open for business Early Friday (VERY EARLY FRIDAY).....

There are few marketing departments in the world which can convincingly fool their target demographic. Fortunately for 20th Century Fox, they have one of best.

Which would explain the positive pre-release buzz surrounding "Fantastic Four: The Rise of The Silver Surfer". So far the ads have sold the movie as a triumph over its predecessor. It must help to have Rupert Murdoch’s numerous media outlets brainwashing the public with talk of a better script and a bigger budget. None of which appears to be true.

They’ve also again managed to stir some controversy to raise curiousity amongst the core fan base* (i.e. comic book aficionados).

The first movie succeeded not because of the carefully orchestrated media blitz but because at its heart it was a simple, old-fashioned comic book romp. It had a decent cast, a focused storyline and origin stories are mostly always fun.

The sequel gets it all wrong by padding scene-after-scene of repetitious exposition, poorly conceived drama and bland set pieces which only end up testing the viewers’ patience. It's amazing how lengthy and pointless its short 92 minute running time feels. The proceedings never manage to engage the viewers. Even the Silver Surfer, under the direction of the visually lacking Tim Story, is realised as a flat one-dimensional hero.

The cast must’ve been chasing a quick paycheck because they all look bored exchanging quips and cheesy lines littered with sci-fi mumbo-jumbo more fitting for an episode of “Star Trek”. The comic interplay between these characters in the comic books has helped set them apart from their angst ridden counterparts. Here they decide to ham it up and play it broad.

A special mention though must go out to one cast member. Jessica Alba. Her sugar coated smile, sun-kissed skin tone and perfect figure would be enough to keep my heterosexual eyes glued to the screen but she failed at even managing that. It was a good call to keep her in the background for much of the first films duration but here, where she's front-and-centre, it exposes how wooden her "acting" truly is. Was it so difficult to find a hot Caucasian actress with blue eyes and at least moderate acting chops to play the quintessential American sweetheart Sue Storm? Dolling Alba up in a blonde wig and obvious contacts has to be one of the worst ideas in casting history. And is it just me or does she share a better chemistry with Chris Evans (Johnny Storm, her movie brother!) than with Ioan Grufford (Dr. Reed Richards, her movie fiance!)?

Sorry to s*i* on Alba. Like I said can’t blame her for chasing a quick paycheck.

I doubt fans of the genre will be as gullible to trust the next such product Fox unleashes upon them. For that matter moviegoers in general might just start staying away from any comic book property Fox decides to butcher.

* Some of the controversial choices Fox have made to piss off comic book fans:

I. The death of core characters (X-Men 3).
II. The mockery of Doom’s origins (Fantastic Four).
III. Matt Murdoch’s superhero like abilities (Daredevil).
IV. The appearance of Galactus (FF:ROTSS).

Just got back from the midnight screening. I was pleasantly impressed...and the audience that saw it with me definitely had a good time (quite a few even clapped at the end). This film is markedly more serious and mature--and the camp has been toned way down. It's not without flaws, but it is definitely a huge improvement over the first film 2 years ago. And...Doom was breathtaking.:up:

My review will follow soon, but I'd give it 7.5/10 at this time.

It was alright, not the best, not the worse- but, this is typically always my reaction the first time I watch a film. My attention is plainly focused on what is there and what isn't there than just relaxing and watching the actual film itself- that always happens to me for some reason... So I can say for sure tomorrow- but, I am taking a guess at 7.5/8 range.

We don't see Galactus. I don't even think Galactus himself was in the cloud- RATHER, I think it was Galactus' ship. Call me crazy but it reminded me dead on of the 90s cartoon. The storm, the clouds, the ship- everything... only Galactus never goes down.

Reason I say ship is at the very end I saw a certain Death Star looking thing which is what the ship reminded me of in the 90s cartoon. May have just been the result of watching that first then going to see this...

Also, I might be wrong- but it sounded like Galactus sadistically- laughed? Anyone else hear that or was I just hearing things?

Anyways it was an alright flick, better than the first time seeing SM3 and FF1 and SM3 got into my top five the second-go-around... so, we'll see. I'll be able to see clearer tomorrow now that I know what is and what is not in the final film. That has effected my viewing in EVERYTHING- and yes, even effected the first time I saw SM2 as well... Right now 7.5-8.

Oh and Doom fans- that pic you were asking about with that green and all those TV screens... THAT IS IN THE FILM!

There you go, at least I got a chance to answer one of your questions.

Nearing the end- yeah it does start to get very serious and dark. The air fight was AMAZING. The fight with Doom was awesome- only ended too quickly.

Oh and Reed, if you're reading this- please teach me how to dance dude! Seriously, Ioan, imo, is a fantastic dancer with the effects.

----------------------------------------

And also, as I said- every film, for which I read the novelization of prior to, the first time through is more of a "is that in? is that in?" waiting game than being able to relax and just enjoy the film. So, having now known that I can give a final estimate tomorrow. Leaning more towards the 8 though.

A much better action movie than the first, some genuine emotion of the Surfer rather than just eye candy, a good continuation of the family dynamic from the first film, and the giant cloud visual actually didn't bother me.
They managed to make a really fun adventure movie that still had heart despite the 90 minute length, which I expected to be too short.

I thought it was great. Better than spidey 3 anyways.

I don't know why it gets so slammed in reviews. The first one did too and I liked it as well

I really enjoyed this movie. Although I gave it an excellent (based on its vast improvements from the first film), I would really give it an above average. I loved it from start to end. Yes, it wasn't perfect and there were a couple of moments (dialog wise and some of Reed's stretching effects) when I cringed in my seat, however overall it was a blast!!!

This verison of Galactus I thought was also pretty cool!! Whether you want to call it a 'storm cloud' or a 'gasous anomaly', it was very threatening. What we saw was left to the viewer to decide.

For the comic fan, Galactus' world-ship was in there. No creature that flies a ship the size of a planet would show up without come 'coverage'. I saw it similar to the arrival of ships in Independence Day.

For the non-comic fan, it was the end of the world, wondering whether or not the human race would survive.

Doom was fantastic...and everyone else also stepped it up!!

Congrats on a really nice movie!!!

Cool. So I'm not going crazy. :woot:

Also:

DID ANYONE HEAR GALACTUS LAUGH? (POSSIBLY VIA A COMMUNICATIONS DEVICE OF SOME SORT)?

Maybe I did go crazy with that one though. Might have been the only one that heard that.

thats a pic of a Thanos clone that was created with Galactuses DNA and Thanos' mixed. hes called Omega i think. Leave it to Thanos to clone Galactus... damn Thanos is a bad ass.

this happend in the Infinity Abyss story line if anyone is interested.

Couldn't find the animated cartoon version of the ship. But, it does resemble a Death Star.... or at least I've always thought it looked like a Death Star.

Well I got back from the midnight showing and I went with my cousin. I haven't had so much fun in a long time....this film was TRULY the Fantastic 4...everything was great...even Alicia was in a few more scenes and had some great dialogue to go with it. So much was improved, the score was phenomenal especially the one particular piece of music involving Doom's "ascension" and speaking of Doom, everyone on this board knows I am a Doom fanatic and this movie gave it to me in spades....I was so thrilled to see the TRUE Doctor Doom on the big screen and they even gave him THE line to say...
Then come and get it RICHARDS!
. His armor is fantasic and truly worthy of Doom...Latveria was beautiful, albeit briefly. The family was definitely realized
a lot of talk about starting a family with Reed and Sue...I guess Franklin will be on his way
, the relationships were great and the rivalry with Doom and Richards was great...
I'll hold his hand and guide him through it (Doom talking about Reed)

The Surfer was without a doubt one of the best things on the screen. While Galactus's change didn't bother me as much as I thought it would. I guess because I knew it wasn't the real deal, that the REAL Galactus will show up in time.

However, in conclusion, Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer is a truly outstanding effort that redeems the first movie and several of the recent comic book films plus puts this franchise at the top with Spiderman and X-Men. This is one for the books....

FYI I'm not holding back on a couple of spoilers.

I just got back from FF: ROTSS.

When i got there it was PACKED. I was a bit cranky about that (since i got there earlier just didn't bother making the line) and my girlfriend was the poor unfortunate soul that had to deal with me. My group decided to sit this one out, Well i say their loss!

Yes I enjoyed the film!

Could it have been better? yes it could off, but I was pleasantly surprised.
It had some great moments. I only wish the pacing was better in order to savor them.

Reed snapping back at The General was awesome the audience began to clap. I was amazed the tidbits managed to stand out (at times).
The overall audience vibe was very positive (which to me is shocking).

The story with Reed and Sue was nice. The Sue and Johnny story was also touching. I really got a better feel about them as siblings. Before the wedding when they hug and at the end. I thought they where nice moments and even more amazingly was that no one in the audience yelled out anything stupid.

Ben was a bit left out in this one, however it wasn't something i missed much.

Reed did ALOT more which was great. The stretching looked a little fake but i mean really how real can elastic stretching look? The clothing was a bit of a plot hole but very minor in the span of the movie.

I noticed they cut some lines again from traliers for example Sue saying Reed this is my wedding.

The Surfer looked really cool even when he wasn't all Silver and Shiny.
This time around i actual felt the threat scale rise a couple of bars.

Overall I consider it a good movie. Great action, Nice FX, and a nice story in the background that I for one managed to appreciate.

Well before i get to the negative Let me say I wasn't all that dissapointed with the Galactus cloud.

It was threatning and that's kinda what mattered the most in the story, however the fan boy in me would of given a left foot (maybe a hang nail anyways) to see a giant god like figure in the middle of the Storm Cloud.
Doom was bit of a loss, he really didn't do much at the end, Although the aerial battle was very entertaining.

Oh yea and one last thing the sponsoring jokes I felt really where not as bad as some have claimed them to be. It get's dragged on a little but it didn't kill anything.

Cool. So I'm not going crazy. :woot:

Maybe I did go crazy with that one though. Might have been the only one that heard that.

No, I heard it too. Several of us were discussing it during the closing credits. It sounded like he was mocking Norrin for daring to defy him.

WOW just WOW

1st i havent posted in this forum since the catastrophie, and by that i mean x3 last stand,
i just got back from the midnight showing, and wow am i impressed. this was a true fantastic four movie. Funny, Action packed, and serious when needed. i was really blown away by almost everything.
doom was cool not the real comics doom but they are getting close.
the surfer was amazing his voice kinda off but overall he was perfect.
johnny was funny and did the best job in the whole movie.
jessica alba ummm not so much.

and for all of you galactus fans (i am one too) the cloud is not galactus its just a manifestation of his power. the surfer reffered many times to galactus as "HE" the shadow over the planet was his helmet, i am 100% certain the cosmic storm was just his power.

overrall great movie i will probably re-watch it tomorrow.

and one last thing, forget the critics, they do not get fantastic four

Damn, that was pretty cool. Much better than the first, I gotta admit. Reed is much more in character with what we know, and pretty cool. Johnny is much more sympathetic instead of just being an ass all the time. Doom is hugely improved on all fronts - writing, performance, the whole thing. BIG props for that, and I'm sure lots of people will be happy to see him lose the metal skin. There's signifcantly more action. The Fantasticar is sweet as hell, and that's probably the best sequence in the movie. The humor is great, Alicia even gets more to do this time... honestly, I can't complain too much about most of it. It's a damn fine film, thank christ. I was feeling pretty worried after the first one and the galactacloud talk.

Still not perfect, of course.

- Despite reports from a week ago... Galactus is just a cloud. That's it. And honestly, in the context of the movie, I have no idea how they could've made him anything else. There's just no time for anyone in the movie to deal with any new and shocking developments like "giant man," so instead they get it in a context they can comprehend because their attentions are elsewhere for that entire segment of the film. So I can't blame them for that decision... but maybe they should've rewritten the movie, made it longer and done a real Galactus. I realize that would've taken the focus WAY off of the Silver Surfer, though. So in its own way, maybe this is for the best.

- If you're wondering how the Surfer became the herald for a cloud, or why he speaks to it and calls it "He"... keep wondering, I guess. Not much context given on those details, which is unfortunate because you never want to leave something hanging for possible sequels/spinoffs. Especially since there's a lot of doubt about how this one will perform...

- What's with Doom's armor fetish? There's no good damn reason for him to be wearing the armor and the mask at the end of the movie other than the fact that I guess he just likes armor. I mean, he's fully healed now and lookin' like a pimp stud again! I guess, judging by what we see of the interior of Castle Doom, he just has a thing for suits of armor.

- I wish the team had more to do for the finale. Reed and Sue basically sit on the ground while Johnny and the Surfer take care of the heavy lifting, with a brief assist from Ben. Meh.

Anyway, damn good movie, I'm quite pleased.

^^I kinda thought the cloud wasn't him but they left it pretty wide open. :(

I dunno if your average viewer can get that?

Then again they probably don't know who The Big G is.

Actually i just remember SS talking about the Big G but did he mention him being an entity beyond the cloud? I forgot.... :(
