I think you misinterpreted what he said. After he mentions Halle Berry, the sentence ends. THEN he says "That was my focus." which was on the female aspect. So his focus wasn't Halle Berry particularly, but on the female aspect in general I believe.

Then I must have missed something, cause all I could see was Wolverine. I think what Ratner really meant was: "that's what the studio said was my focus, I'm not so sure about that yet. But wasn't the pacing great??"


Edit: BTW if he "literally did not read anything" how does he know "it was 90 percent negative, and then it became 90 percent positive"?

BTW - in the x1.5 DVD Singer said that he read the "internet stuff" (hence the "yellow spandex" line) so it's wierd he adviced Ratner not to.

BTW - in the x1.5 DVD Singer said that he read the "internet stuff" (hence the "yellow spandex" line) so it's wierd he adviced Ratner not to.

Unless, being more experienced than Ratner with the X-Men franchise, Singer knew about the bad repercussions that would follow once fans found out about some of the "changes" that FOX's management was making for the upcoming film.

Meh, the guy may be an ass but I enjoy his movies...

-Rush Hour 1 & 2 were some pretty good action comedies and I can't wait for the third one next summer.

-The Family Man is one of my favorite movies and IMO very underrated.

-And X3? Well...its my favorite of the trilogy...sure it lacks depth, but thats okay for me as we got plenty of that in X1 & X2.

And you're happy with that? Seriously, I assume you know the comics and understand the comics. But for this film to have the Phoenix Saga and the Cure Storyline put together, it should've been WAY deeper and had more depth than the first two combined.

It's not that I am 'happy' moreso than I am 'content' with what we got in X3...I mean considering all the drama and controversy surrounding the production, the movie could've been FAR worse.

Sure it could've been the greatest finale for the X-Men saga but at the same token, Ratner could have gone all "Batman & Robin" on us and given us one of the worse comic book movies of ALL TIME. IMO, what we got was a medium between the two...it had its good moments and it had its bad ones...It's the ROTJ of the X-Men saga...it has its issues but for the most part it was a decent conclusion to the trilogy.

Poor Ratner just needs to shut his mouth. Every time he speaks people on here go crazy. If he doesn't realize this he is stupid. You gave us an ok movie but it was no where near the 90% range you said.

If Ratner's percentage was correct then X3 would have had no problem breaking 300 million domestically. It wouldn't have been added to Box office mojo's greatest 2nd weekend dropoff. It wouldn't have struggled to make more than X2 and die at 234million domestically. Pretty weak financially for a movie with a 210 million budget and bizzare with a director that claimed fans loved the film.

Boy, am I glad I spent tonight at a Broadway show and missed most of this fun. t:

No X-Men movie have ever broken $300 million domestically. X3 was the first movie in the series to even crack $200 million domestically. It certainly didn't "die" at $234 million. It's the third highest grossing film of the year and the highest grossing X-Men movie, even with that 2nd weekend. And that number is going to keep climbing with DVD and TV revenue.

It's certainly not to say that the movie was perfect and everyone was in love with it, that's fantasy. But there was certainly nothing weak about it's box office.

I can't believe everyone is so worked up after the Ratner interview. Is any of this really surprising to anyone by now??

X2 made $215 million domestically...

I believe the figure is actually $234. Which may seem alot until you realize that the film cost $210 to make. So total profit domestically is: $234-210 = $24 million. 11.5% domestic profit margin. Not so impressive anymore, is it? It especially becomes embarassing when you compare it to its predecessors:

X1 cost $60 million to make. And had a 109% domestic profit margin. That translates to $65.4 million. For a total net domestic income of $60 + $65.4 = 125.4 million.

So for a film that cost less than 1/3 of what X3 cost to make, X1 managed to net 2 3/4 times the profit. Shocking, isn't it?

X3 had to make over 3 times as much money as X3 just to break even! You don't get profit until the money you take in overcomes what it cost to make the film. Basic economic concepts.

Read 'em and weep folks. Those are the cold, hard facts. X1 was a much wiser business investment and paid off better domestically than X3. The rest of the world is important too, but since X-men is generally considered to be a domestic product and not expected to take the whole world by storm, it's the domestic market that's going to be the deciding factor as to whether it is successful or not.
