Whedons abuse was likely the same as various actors (Christian Bale). If you're a big name then people will turn a blind eye. Not saying it's right but that is Hollywood and they'll continue to accept it. Its been a known issue since Hollywood started

That can be seen as abuse of power. Whedon hasn't been accused of physically abusing anyone to my knowledge. Bale going off the way he did would be grounds for termination in the normal world.

Im surprised WB was as blunt as they were. Ray kind of handed them that response on a silver platter (until he claims he was written out before his statement)

I think general idea is to no longer accept the answer "that's Hollywood". To try to change the culture of the industry so that big names don't get away with abusing their power.

For sure, and if Hollywood can be held more accountable that'd be great but i dont think it'll happen in terms of people throwing around their power like children.

Eh.....that depends. I’ve seen people in “the normal world” go off like that and get away with it.

And tbh in the context of the situation I don’t especially feel Bale did anything *that* wrong, not enough to have an “abusive” label slapped on him.

Bale was completely right to rip that guy a new one. He was an actor trying to concentrate and this incompetent camera guy kept distracting him. Plus it was fun to listen too.

The Bale meltdown video is literally the only good thing to ever come out of Terminator Salvation.

I think its also worth noting guys, the WB rebuttal article from this morning says “WB offerred Fisher the Flash role last summer,” which is when Fisher launched his assault on Whedon and began this.

What i’m getting at is, something went bad during that initial meeting where they talked to Ray about being in The Flash that made him go off.

To be clear Bale wasn’t yelling at some poor grip, it was the director of photography a person of extreme importance, and while not the director or lead actor in terms of power, still was high up there. The yelling was because the DOP was moving around and fixing lights during a take distracting Bale from doing his job as an actor - and from watching his performance in that film it was mostly yelling - so I’m sure he was ramped up anyway.

Bale cooled off, apologized afterward and they moved on with their lives until it leaked online and became everybody’s business for some reason.

Representatives for Fisher did not immediately respond to TheWrap’ request for further comment.

The most fascinating part of this for me is that months ago, Fisher was treating Warner Media as an impartial arbiter on this and stated several times that he had confidence in them as though they were a separate entity from WB as a whole. When the investigation was over, he even praised them and acted as though they were kicking in the door to clean house on WB. Looks like he misjudged the terrain there.

Truth is. if Ray gives specifics in public, the lawyers come at him full force and he knows it and he knows he cant fight that.

They seemingly haven't so far and he's using the term racism a lot. If anything, by being open about the specifics of the abuse, there'd be more reason for lawyers to lay off him and prevent the studio from looking the bad guys who are trying to crush the receipt-having, truth-telling actor.

I didn't say he wasn't being a prick. I said there's no reason to think it was a pattern. People get angry and act wildly inappropriately sometimes, it's massively uncool but it happens.

i feel like warner media pulled a fast one on him.
thats what these big corporations do though.

as long as hamada did not do anything egregious like outright physical assault, then they sweep everything under the rug.

My feelings are mixed because Ray is clearly trying to bury these people and damage their careers by weaponizing public opinion against them. If he's going to use social media as a weapon to damage people's reputations, doing it in a vague enough way that people can project whatever outrageous behavior they want onto his enemies. Ray wants action taken through proper channels but he clearly also wants to make sure Johns/Whedon/Berg/Hamada become hated and stained no matter what.

But, at the same time, yeah obviously he's probably already starting to push it and put himself at risk by publicly calling Johns a racist. His most specific claim, about Whedon reducing POC roles and the skin tone colour correction thing, are also the most suspect of his claims by far. Being specific is both legally dangerous and didn't work out for him last time. He's probably trying to protect people too, but generally I don't think trusting people who frame their intentions as purely noble/selfless is a good idea.

I've it said before but I'll say it again, Ray had been racing the clock with these allegations. He's destroying his career right now by continuing this fight without a clear resolution. This won't end well for him the longer this goes on, and nothing comes out of it.

People know what was said, in what way the folks in power are unfair and why, specifically, it's a problem. Fisher often refers to one-to-one convos that don't involve the crew, so he could do sth similar. Haven't heard of any lawsuits against Shinkoda. I don't know how unprotected the crew would feel if they were to be alluded to namelessly when they've already been asked to partake in an investigation. Fisher doesn't "owe" details, but if he's serious about the importance of accountability and he wants to make an accustaion fairly and intelligently, context would probably help his cause more than umbrella terms.

Yeah, I do think publicly calling Geoff Johns a racist when you can’t elaborate on what you mean is pretty bad. I understand why he can’t elaborate for fear of legal reprisal but that’s a heavy duty accusation. If it’s anything like Loeb’s behaviour, **** him, but the problem is we don’t know if it’s that or something closer to Fisher’s interpretation of why certain roles were cut down.

They’re public figures. This isn’t a completely private concern.
