Everyone wants Matt Moore. Even teams with a stable QB.

Who could be interested in Matt Moore? Maybe Jacksonville or Buffalo? Possibly Arizona?
No way in hell do the Panthers go 10-6. That defence is ass and Cam Newton, like it or not, is going to have a sophomore slump because people have a season's worth of tape on him to pick apart.
Injuries played a huge role on the Panthers last season. The linebacker core and defensive line took the biggest blows. Other than the cornerbacks, the Panthers' D is not 'ass'. The Panthers squad always thrives on no-names.
...And you act as if Newton's sophomore slump will slow him down. If Olsen, Smith, Stewart, Tolbert, Williams and LaFell can stay healthy for the majority of the season, then Cam will produce regardless of whatever slump he'll be in.
The fact he's playing a considerably harder schedule this season and that his team has ignored their needs in favour of getting a much needed third running back (not) might slow him down some.
The Panthers are moving sideways this season. Maybe one or two more wins at best.
You have to remember that the Bucs are coming along too and unlike Newton Freeman has actually put together a winning season. Before last year they had around the same level of hype as the Panthers do now, and we all know how that went. They'll be lucky to win one game in the south. 8-8 at best. They will also get into a hole early, as they have to play the Saints, Giants, and Falcons over the first 4 games. The biggest issue for Carolina is their division, namely the fact that it isn't garbage anymore. Cam came along after every other team in that division hit their stride & aside from the Bucs, the others are an established threat to the NFC every season. At best, they can hope to split series with the Saints & Falcons / sweep of the Bucs.
The remainder of their schedule, significantly more difficult this year, will do the rest. With a minimal slump & a healthy defense, I say they go 9-7. Which is still a DRAMATIC improvement.

If you ask me Tampa Bay has improved a lot more than Carolina has, and if any team is going to steal a wild card in the south it will be Tampa. While Newton played well last year, he only beat one team of any importance and they were already clinched into the playoffs when he did. Every QB's play goes down in his second season because they have seen more tape, from Matt Ryan and Sam Bradford to Derek Anderson, it will always happen. One game in the South? Surely you joke. Carolina swept Tampa Bay last season, and kept it competitive against New Orleans and Atlanta with no defense. I'm predicting at least three games this season for the Panthers. I see them beating the Saints, Bucs and Falcons once each, especially with the new additions to the team and the returning players from the IR.

In fact, Newton's numbers fell dramatically in the 2nd half of the season, he didn't go over 171 yards in his last 3 games, and he didn't hit over 300 yards once after week 4. If his slump began before the season ended how can you deny that it won't happen again? You also have to take into account his play style, he's a lot more likely to get knocked out for the season than say Drew Brees or Matt Ryan.

Tampa actualyy went out and made huge improvements. They added a great target for Freeman in Jackson, and they added a brick wall on the line with Carl Nicks. The Panthers are in the same position as the Bucs from last year.Yeah, I've heard that before from Tampa... two years in a row (three now). Like Carolina, their defense is highly questionable. They've given up alot of yards and points.
The point I'm trying to make is that any QB worth something will look great in his first few games, its how he performs once teams can accurately game plan for him that shows his true worth. Look at Derek Anderson, if you base your opinion of him around his first season as a starter you'd think he was a good on the rise QB, but once everyone had film on him, we saw what he truly was. I think something similar will happen to Newton.I'm missing the point to this paragraph. I'm aware of QB play for the second half of the season. Anywho, Peyton Manning went 3-13 in his rookie campaign, and the Colts beat how many playoff caliber teams that year?
No, I'm just suggesting that he isn't as good as everyone decided he was after week 3.So, you're suggesting that Newton was unable to hit the 300 mark after Week Four because he was in a funk already (even though the Panthers are primarily a run-offense)?

I hate that passing yardage stat so much. It wouldn't be near as high if he wasn't playing from behind each game. Passing yards is a worthless stat these days, especially when there were three guys who broke Marino's record last year. I used to be in the same boat as you, I loved having a QB that could bust an 80 yard run at any moment, but eventually he's going to get jacked up, no doubt about it. But, the important thing is winning, and I haven't seen Newton win a game against a solid opponent since he played Oregon in the National Title game. Then you haven't been paying attention.
I'm sorry. I missed the part where he threw for over 4,000 yards with a 61% completion rate, and rushed for 700 yards. Oops, I forgot, Cam accomplished all of that in the first four weeks.![]()
