The Rise of Skywalker Reactions to "Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker"

At the very least guys even a lot of the mixed reactions claim the ending is very satisfying, that's something to look forward to I feel.

Quite honestly, I am encouraged that this movie is getting mixed reaction. It tells me the JJ Abrams tried some new things potentially. Which is something I feared this movie would not do based on his prior Star Wars movie. That said, we'll see how much this movie works for me. As noted, I'm just hoping this isn't dedicating too much of its time to trying to retcon plot points from the last movie. I just want this to be its own movie

most of the negative reactions seem to be from those who loved/favored TLJ.

since I disliked TLJ, that is somewhat encouraging.............lol.

I couldn't agree more with this!

Seeing people have complicated opinions, feeling overwhelmed, saying it's "a lot"-- those are exactly the types of reactions I hope to see, vs. just "it was so much fun!!!"

If this movie has the type of value that I hope it has, it's not going to be something you can just walk away from feeling like you've fully absorbed it all after one viewing. As I said in the other thread, I was watching Empire last night and still finding things to love about it-- a 40 year old film.

The verdict on this movie won't be written this week, or next month, or next year even. Gotta live with it for a while, and see how its place in the saga sits over time.

As someone who liked TLJ, but thinks certain people put too much stock into certain things and acted as if they can't be changed without it being some sort of spit in the face....it's probably going to be a very frustrating discourse for me, lol.

These are, both good and bad, as nonsensical and OT as they usually are... They are usually funnier than informative. You could change the names of the films they are suposedly revieweng and put instead a plethora of others and you wouldnt notice.

At least no one dies of a broken heart in this movie ...I think lolololol

B-but...the droid doctor who only believes in spiritual medicine said that she died from that? Part of the same droid doctor team that never performed an ultrasound to let her know she was having twins. So...apparently, Padme never went to prenatal appointments, and she gave up the will to live after having her children. Man...are there any good parents in the Star Wars films?
Luke and Leia's? Nope.
Kylo's? Nope.
Anakin's? Nope.
Jyn Erso's? Nope.
Rey's? Maybe. I mean, what if the plot is that her parents have been searching for her after their weekend on Casino-Planet only to realize they were too drunk to remember the planet on which they left her...so...no I guess.

Looking at this list, it would appear Darth Vader is the best dad. At least he tried to give his indecisive hippie/farmboy of a son a job in the family business.

true......haha.

I'm withholding final judgment on TLJ until I see TROS and see how it all plays out.

:D

apparently Palps wasn't a very good parent, either.

This trilogy is clearly about a younger generation of characters who are struggling to live up to the legacies of the past. Both on the light and dark side of the Force. That was the general trajectory that TFA kicked off and TLJ continued, and it's not like it's been subtle either.
You quoted the wrong person. I've never said what you quoted.

What legacies? Luke failed to restart the Jedi order and abandoned everyone, Leia and the rest of the Rebellion were unable to establish a strong and effective central government, thus allowing an even stronger version of the Empire to rise up and murder countless billions, and Han and Chewie reverted back to being smugglers.

And on the dark side, not only did Vader fail as a Sith, he failed to stop Palpatine as a redeemed Jedi.

The only "legacy" these characters have is in a meta sense. They have a legacy to us, the audience. But in-universe they are abysmal failures.

Any idea what this guy said about the other Star Wars films? (just for context)

Well, if some of the critics who liked TLJ are tougher on this film, I'll at least enjoy seeing the Disney shill narrative blown to bits, while nobody pushing that narrative admits they were wrong to accuse people of that.

Having a movie that’s universally loved is a rarity nowadays. I like when I enjoy a mixed reaction movie.
Truth.
Even Avengers Endgame, which was the GOAT for 2 weeks is now getting called "stupid", "overrated", and "just for kids".

Spider-Verse, which was beautifully done, is now "not that great" and "forgettable" depending on which website you go to.

People enjoy hating on things. Especially popular things. Luke could return to life, fly in on his X-wing with his green lightsaber and fight Palatine using all of the book force powers while Rey is depowered to a level to make the man-babies happy, Poe and Finn could move to a moisture farm on Tatooine to raise Banthas, and Kylo Ren could use his new force powers to cure everyone in the theater of cancer, and in a week, one of the fat cancer-ridden nerds who got to go for their make-a-wish would be like, "It sucks. They just can't tried to do damage control from 'The Last Jedi'...if Johnson hadn't made a movie so bad it gave me cancer in the first place, we could have had a truly great trilogy!"*

*This was all meant to be tongue in cheek, by the way. Please direct all your offense to my personal email Kathleen. Kennedy @ lucasfilm. com
