'Red' Filmmaker To Direct Ryan Reynolds In 'R.I.P.D.' Adaptation.

Future ILM and WETA could have traveled back in time and given us the greatest effects ever seen and I'd still think R.I.P.D looked lame. Long convos about visual effects are so boring to me. I said my peace and now wish I hadn't because the most boring topic ever has turned into the thing to talk about.

I love how you like to call other people's conversations boring if you aren't a fan. You don't have to discuss what others are discussing. You don't have to read it.

I don't run this site, obviously you are free to talk about whatever you please and I am free to say that it's a boring topic that fanboys are too obsessed with endlessly carrying on about. I'm sure people on here find things that I talk about boring and annoying as well.

That doesn't change how ridiculous and mean spirited your words are.

It's weird how different his career ended up compared to say Bradley Cooper. They're more or less in the same bracket a few years ago.

Reynolds should really take more serious roles or try doing an Affleck or Joseph Gordon-Levitt and try his hand behind the camera. Buried and heck even Smokin Aces proved he can act to me. I still like the guy and hope he can come through with something.

Does he have a production company? That's how actors seem to get really good roles lately.

They are promoting the hell out of the thing on tv. On every single channel i watch day or night they show a tv spot during every single commerical break. But Im not surprised this will flop

AS for Reynolds, I think he needs to stick to dramas, rom coms, and comedies. I like him, but all his reaches for super stardom/a list he falls short.

Not only is the idea a ripoff of MIB, there are scenes lifted straight from MIB!

You can do nods to films but don't xerox the script.

oh come on. Im not even looking forward to this but this seems to be reaching/nitpicking it. None of these scenes are that that similar or at least no similar that show up in a lot of movies.

Its quite fun reading some of the pull quotes on RT for this movie. Its like the critics are trying to one up each other.

You may want to remove the link.... it has cursing in it

My favorite is: "If ever a movie was made for countless repeats on the USA Network, this is it."
and
"R.I.P.D. does offer a pretty good idea of what the afterlife might look like to someone suffering macular degeneration."

My favorite is:

Not since Johan Hex
or
Every movie coming out this year but "R.I.P.D." should pause for a big sigh of relief: The possibility of any of them being called the worst cinematic effort of 2013 has, as of today, just about disappeared.

LOL, those quotes are great.

To be fair though, I highly doubt ANYONE reviewed it objectively. When you wait until the last minute to screen a movie to critics, they walk in CONVINCED that it's going to be bad.

Saw this movie for free last night.

I must say I was pleasently surprised, the movie is quite fun.

Unfortunately it also feels like a movie that's been sitting in the can since 2005.

This movie is pretty much a beat for beat a Men in Black rehash. It even has a very similar aesthetic...two similar in that the effects all look really outdated. There's a lot of the type of weird ragdoll physics they used to employ in the first two Harry Potter films. Its weird but if you can get past it the movie is quite fun. Reynolds and Bridges are good playing off one another and Bridges very obviously enjoyed himself in his role.

The movie is essentially a cartoon, but cartoons can be entertaining. The films designs and effects feel outdated but it also just feels a bit non-congruent with modern tastes. There are certain kinds of humor and levity that we left behind some time in 2008 or so.

As much as I actually enjoyed this movie, I must say, can hollywood please just stop it with the whole "We have to stop the spinny thing on the roof that's opening a portal/transforming everyone" climax? 13 years past X-Men its just old and stale...that includes when it was used in Avangers and ASM last year.

Yep Cooper and Reynolds were in the bracket and then "Silver Linings Playbook" happened and now Cooper is treated more seriously and is going to work with Spielberg and just finished working with David O. Russell again.

I for one think that Reynolds can act and when he tones down his funny guy act he can be charming and humorous in comedies but he hasn't had "that role" that changes his public persona. He needs a good role in a good movie that people actually pay attention to.

I hope I'm wrong but I think that ship has sailed. Maybe this is the best he had to choose from and he just had to work but R.I.P.D sounded like a bad idea to me from the go-go. I think he'll play in hit movies alongside other bigger stars but will never become one himself.

Too be fair, I think Bradley Cooper is a much better actor with a face I don't want to punch every few seconds. I honestly can't imagine Reynolds pulling off a performance like Cooper's in "Silver Linings Playbook".
