'Red' Filmmaker To Direct Ryan Reynolds In 'R.I.P.D.' Adaptation.

I'm wondering if Green Lantern would have fared better had Cooper went ahead and taken that role. He could very well be alongside Bale and Cavill for any future flicks, if Bale isn't all ambiguous about his.

Its not like Green Lantern failed because of Reynolds, that movie had far far bigger problems.

I mean he didnt help but I dont think people were like: "Ugh it has Ryan Reynolds in it. I'm not gonna go see that movie" I hardly even heard anyone singling out his performance as bad. So i think putting any blame on him is unnecessary.

They were more like "Ugh why did they have to go and make him white, he's suppose to be black".

Too be fair, I think Bradley Cooper is a much better actor with a face I don't want to punch every few seconds. I honestly can't imagine Reynolds pulling off a performance like Cooper's in "Silver Linings Playbook".
I didn't know Cooper had that performance in him. I knew he wasn't a bad actor at all (see Alias) but Oscar nom or no that was one of my favorite performances of last year and he was really strong in A Place Beyond the Pines this year as well. Lets just ignore Hangover 3 and say dude is on a roll.

Would I choose Cooper over Reynolds as far as acting talent goes? Hell yes and I'm one of Reynolds biggest defenders. I doubt Reynolds could have played Pat as well as Cooper but I still think that he is talented and was good in Smoking Aces, Buried and The Nines. I can't jump on the dislike train because I think he is legitimately talented. I am on the "he is never going to be a big leading man" train though.

Cooper told Jay Leno that he lost the role because he was terrible, he made up a Bale as Batman voice during the audition. I think Cooper is thanking his lucky stars that he didn't land that role. It wasn't Reynolds fault but Green Lantern really hurt his career and would have hurt any actor who landed the role.

There is no need to hate Reynolds. But his script decision and performance just tell me he is never going to be what he wants to be. I do give him credit for trying though.

The only way Reynold's will be a lead in a franchise is if they ever make the perfect Deadpool film. Then actually care to advertise it.

Reynolds is no Deadpool to me. Not even close.

its time to accept that all the bad movies that he does its because of money. he is rich ,young and attractive. and he has muscles. he has a good life. this is hollywood.

Reynolds just needs that one movie. It doesnt have to be a drama or action film. It seems that Cooper got his career jump-started by The Hangover, which I'm sure helped him get A Team, Limitless, and later Place Beyond the Pines/Silver Linings Playbook.

Reynolds at least needs to pick a decent comedy I think, which he hasn't done in a while.

I think Reynolds is a good actor, Buried in particular surprised me and I find the last 10 minutes really hard to watch. On the other hand he can just pull out the RIPD like roles and it is just like "why"? Surely Reynolds is still at the level where he can pick and choose his scripts rather than having to choose every one.

I really thought Buried was gonna be that kickstart.

Deadpool might one day be made for all I know (not anytime soon IMHO) but Reynolds isn't going to be playing the role.

As dark b said, dude has a great life so I don't feel sorry for him but his time in the sun is coming to an end. He is 37 and unlike other male actors around that age his persona is too youth based for him to survive well into his 40's. He's known as a bomb magnet, even roles like in R.I.P.D will begin to dry up in 3-5 years.

he is 37? holly s... how much botox does he have every month?

37 isn't old and make up and good lighting does wonders. Almost every actor has work done so that helps too. If my job was being in front of a camera I'd have work done as well.

The guy was married to Scarlett J. and is now with Blake Lively. :wow::wow:

So I saw this. Why? I don't know. I like spending money I don't have. It's complete and absolute garbage. Easily easily worst .movie of the year. The performances are awful from everyone except Bridges who is funny. Story is awful and it makes no sense why they'd want Reynolds. Cg is embarrassing and its boring. 3/10

Worst of the year? You sure you wanna make that statement with 5 more months to go?

You mean an awful looking movie was awful? What a surprise.

So I think I'm about to officially give up on Reynolds and give up on defending him. Why I should I care about his career when he doesn't?

I've been saying that for awhile. The only reason why I think he's popular with comic book fans is because he's a good looking guy but yet is also into comics. Not because he's actually done anything memorable.

Thank you.

I don't understand why people bother to make the "... of the year" claims this early. Or even earlier for that matter. How can you have "the best/worst what-have-you of the year" if that year isn't over?

I think by "of the year" I'm pretty sure "so far" is implied. Why are you guys so literal minded?

He's also married to Blake Lively. Lucky bastard! :o
