you think they just told us the july date to get us off their back about it?

Release dates don't matter when there's an audience and great demand for the product:money is the most important thing for the studios and this is could end up being a desaster for all three movies. you have three big blockbuster movies, who could easily dominate the box office but have to compete with each other.
Star Trek is only second to B3 in sequel hype. The first was so widely acclaimed it's bound for huge numbers.i expect star trek to get destroyed..
Pirates 3
Spider-Man 3
Shrek 3
Might wanna check out how each respective film did, money-wise. And yes, they were all released in the same timeframe.
how many times did a studio come up with a release date and changed it a couple weeks later?

come on, stop being sarcastic.
only weeks and maybe it's not batman 3. i just expect that of the three movies will get a new release date. 2-3 weeks later, so it wont hurt much financially.

Spidey will be the one that moves. It is a reboot with bad word-of-mouth from its predecessor whereas the other two are highly anticipated sequels coming off the stellar word-of-mouth for Star Trek and TDK.
When it comes to blockbuster juggernauts, especially films well into the franchise already, I find it hard to believe people skimp out because of competitors. What killed their numbers was the quality of the films not being up to par with their previous endeavors. All 3 of them dropped significantly from their predecessors at the North American box office. Part of it was crappy quality but part of it was having the three of them in the same month. They did hurt each other financially. The whole deal was just Hollywood arrogance at its best (or worst).
They'll see it, sure. But they're not reaching those big Spidey numbers with the first film out, that's for sure. Not after SM3. Poorly received films directly impact their successor.fair point but what will happen, when the teaser or trailers of the spidey reboot gives us the ultimate kick? the hype will start again. and you should also consider the fact that the ordinary movie goers will see the new spidey movie, no matter how bad the third movie was.

Fans of each respective franchise would have seen the films no matter what. Can you really picture the average movie goer who liked both Pirates 3 and SM2, finding it difficult to choose between P3 and SM3? Because they were mere weeks apart? It's kinda ridiculous.
I'm not arguing that they couldn't have done better without competition, but I don't think that difference would have been to a high degree (though that is relative).Screen count and theater count are the bigger issue. You stick these so-called bad movies all alone with very little competition and they will do better than they did. Pirates 2 didn't have fantastic word-of-mouth and yet it had pretty good legs at the box office primarily because it had almost zero competition during July and August of 2006.

I think it's pretty much a given that Team Nolan are further ahead than they're letting on. We should all have learnt this by now after following the production of BB and TDK. Chris even mentioned in that interview with the LA Times that Jonah was off writing the script, and that they are intending to make it as epic as possible. In that instance, we at least know they have a clear idea of what they want to do and where they want to go.
Things should really get interesting around Comic Con time this summer, as well as around the release of Inception.
I hope this isn't gonna turn into a rush job...
