The Dark Knight Rises Release date for the TDK Sequel; July 20, 2012

how many times did a studio come up with a release date and changed it a couple weeks later?

money is the most important thing for the studios and this is could end up being a desaster for all three movies. you have three big blockbuster movies, who could easily dominate the box office but have to compete with each other.

warner bros. wants another billion dollar and right now, this could be difficult. and i also dont understand, why people think spidey reboot will get his ass kicked? i expect spidey to be the strongest movie of 2012. 3d bonus, huge fanbase and a new fresh spidey version.

i expect star trek to get destroyed..

Release dates don't matter when there's an audience and great demand for the product:

Pirates 3
Spider-Man 3
Shrek 3

Might wanna check out how each respective film did, money-wise. And yes, they were all released in the same timeframe.

Star Trek is only second to B3 in sequel hype. The first was so widely acclaimed it's bound for huge numbers.

All 3 of them dropped significantly from their predecessors at the North American box office. Part of it was crappy quality but part of it was having the three of them in the same month. They did hurt each other financially. The whole deal was just Hollywood arrogance at its best (or worst).

how much of a change are you thinking? Weeks? Months? The next summer?

come on, stop being sarcastic.

only weeks and maybe it's not batman 3. i just expect that one of the three movies will get a new release date. 2-3 weeks later, so it wont hurt much financially.

Spidey will be the one that moves. It is a reboot with bad word-of-mouth from its predecessor whereas the other two are highly anticipated sequels coming off the stellar word-of-mouth for Star Trek and TDK.

No sarcasm! I have a sign for when I'm being sarcastic

I haven't really followed a movies release date this far in advance, so i genuinely wanted to know what to expect

fair point but what will happen, when the teaser or trailers of the spidey reboot gives us the ultimate kick? the hype will start again. and you should also consider the fact that the ordinary movie goers will see the new spidey movie, no matter how bad the third movie was.

When it comes to blockbuster juggernauts, especially films well into the franchise already, I find it hard to believe people skimp out because of competitors. What killed their numbers was the quality of the films not being up to par with their previous endeavors.

Fans of each respective franchise would have seen the films no matter what. Can you really picture the average movie goer who liked both Pirates 3 and SM2, finding it difficult to choose between P3 and SM3? Because they were mere weeks apart? It's kinda ridiculous.

They'll see it, sure. But they're not reaching those big Spidey numbers with the first film out, that's for sure. Not after SM3. Poorly received films directly impact their successor.

Screen count and theater count are the bigger issue. You stick these so-called bad movies all alone with very little competition and they will do better than they did. Pirates 2 didn't have fantastic word-of-mouth and yet it had pretty good legs at the box office primarily because it had almost zero competition during July and August of 2006.

I'm not arguing that they couldn't have done better without competition, but I don't think that difference would have been to a high degree (though that is relative).

Number of theaters/screens certainly play into box office, but again, blockbuster giants are kind of above this, don't you think? They're most likely going to be much higher than anyone else's, and even if they're not in one theater, people will have no problem going elsewhere to see it. These are "events" after all.

with the 3d bonus, it could be possible but i think 600 million dollar would be more than good..

While it may not have the Joker, Batman 3 will still be a big deal - any films slated for a release near this date will be the ones that think about moving.

As I said before, WB are absolutely right to release Batman 3 in a slot that makes it feel like the whole summer is building up to it.

I think Spidey will end up going to May 25th. Or June 8th. At least three weeks before Trek and after Avengers I would think. Maybe Paramount will have an Airbender sequel up for July 3rd. Or there could be a Will Smith movie like MIB3 or ID2. Just throwing out other possibilities.

2012 will be One-Hell of a year for the movies!!! Huge huge titles will come out. That new superman movie, wont that be in 2012 too??

I think it's pretty much a given that Team Nolan are further ahead than they're letting on. We should all have learnt this by now after following the production of BB and TDK. Chris even mentioned in that interview with the LA Times that Jonah was off writing the script, and that they are intending to make it as epic as possible. In that instance, we at least know they have a clear idea of what they want to do and where they want to go.

Things should really get interesting around Comic Con time this summer, as well as around the release of Inception.

The Nolan's will be the first to ever break the superhero trilogy curse (that beeing the third movie always falls short, or downright SUCKS!). They will prevail in a huge way, I have no freaken doubt! I wont dare to believe that it'll be better than Dark Knight. It's the closest thing you will ever come to perfection, it really is!...

What I'm hoping to feel, after seeing Bats 3, will be the sense of that it matched Dark knight, but in a different way! Best example of this will be comparing it to Empire strikes back vs. Return of the Jedi.
Movie 2 = dark as hell. Movie 3 = not dark, but just as good as Empire, in a completely different way! I dont think "3" will be as dark as Dark Knight. I'm hoping for it though. I love these movies to death! I never would have thought that a batman movie could match the love I also have for The Shawshank redemption, for example. Dark Knight is in my top 5! One of the best damn movies I have ever seen! It cetaintly is the most intense!

TDK began filming in March 07' for a July 08' release. Filming starting March 2011 for a July 2012 release date is right on schedule.
