Remakes and Adaptations You'd Like to See

Given the recent trend of remaking foreign films for American audiences (Let the Right One In, Oldboy, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) I think they should consider remaking The Artist for English-speaking audiences. ;)

I understand why he's doing it, but it's kinda contrived and it's not working because she's such a flat character.

It's kinda like when she says "My name is Alice and blah blah", we are suppose to be applauding.

"I love that line bro" said Octoberist. "It's so..iconic."

David Fincher directing Dan Simmons' The Terror (Fincher would nail the cold, dreadful, existential horror of that novel) and Guillermo Del Toro tackling Simmons' Hyperion Cantos (Del Toro doing The Shrike would be a match made in heaven. The Shrike is one of the most badass things I've encountered in any medium).

For years and years now I've wanted to see a remake of Creature From the Black Lagoon. Something similar in tone to Greg McLean's Rogue would be great. Approach the Gill-man not as a monster or malevolent, but as an animal, just doing what it does. That's how McLean approached the crocodile in Rogue and it worked so incredibly well. It was way creepier than making it cartoonishly evil.

A Jack Reacher movie that's actually a Jack Reacher movie would be cool. I don't have anything against Tom Cruise as actor. I think he's more often than not very, very good. But he's not Jack Reacher. One Shot might turn out to be a really good thriller. I'm actually expecting it to be good. But it won't be Jack Reacher.

I wouldn't mind a remake of Re-Animator. I love Stewart Gordon's movie on its own terms, but the Lovecraft's short story is beyond creepy. I'd love to see a period piece setting, with as much left off camera as Lovecraft left off the page. Lovecraft's true strength were in those gaps, the places where we didn't get a look at whatever insidious thing the story was about. I like many of the Lovecraft adaptations we've gotten so far, but I'd love for someone to actual embrace The Unknown that hangs like a pall over his body of work.

On that same note of the unknowable, a really good version of Stephen King's From a Buick 8 could make for a fantastically creepy movie.

Rob Zombie should remake Lady in a Cage. It's a dark, cynical, maniacal movie that he could really sink his teeth into.

I hope Peter Jackson still wants to adapt the Temeraire series. He's tailor made for it.

And of course, a proper adaptation of I Am Legend. And yes please, more Patrick O'Brian seafaring adventures.

A new series of Sinbad movies could potentially be a lot of fun.

Nobody is going to remember the character.

Oh, that now dead adaptation of Rendezvous With Rama directed by David Fincher and starring Morgan Freeman still needs to happen. That really needs to happen.

And someone just hand Frank Darabont The Dark Tower already, please?

Adaptations:

A big YES please.

Yeah I completley agree, it was a simple idea that could of been tweaked slightly as to not be too predictable, but if they had stuck closer to the first RE that would of been such a great film, the characters are great, and the scenes with the nods to the old school horror/thrillers. A reboot that did this would be very welcome to a lot of people I think.

Definitely. Hopefully a faithful RE remake/reboot will be done sometime in the future.

I kinda want to see a big screen version of V.

When are we getting that biopic on Paul the Psychic Octopus?

Alot of games have bad stories and bad dialogue that is over-come with the interactivity video games provide. Planescape Torment has a good story, period.

Especially with all of the recent success of films like Clash of the Titans and Pirates of the Caribbean.

Personally, I'm holding out hope we get an adaptation of Good Omens some day!!

Two I REALLY want to see:

Fray - as a direct to TV film with a cast of Whedon favourite's who haven't appeared in the Buffyverse.

The Alchemist directed by Tarsem.

Others: Dante's inferno, Never Ending Story, anything by Terry Brooks, Fear Nothing - Dean Koontz, Animal's of Farthing Wood, Honey I Shrunk the Kids, The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner (something based on but obviously adding in a more cohesive plot and possibly more characters), Wind in the Willows

I think 'To Kill a Mockingbird' is long overdue for a remake. Maybe a Speilberg one?

Those could be cool..

Another adaptation I'd love to see is The Suffering. My favorite video game of all-time and one begging for a good, game-accurate adaptation.

Playing God - what a great concept and a horrible execution

I think they hit the nail on the head with the first To Kill a Mockingbird movie

I just watched this recently and wouldn't mind seeing an updated version.

We have seen this type of story before but since when does that stop film makers from doing it again and again.

Also a violent and dark movie version of Mortal Kombat. Though the recent live-action web series pretty much serves as that.

Would love to see a remake of the TV show Land Of The Giants. I also think they should make a movie of it.

You are going to laugh, but a Where's Waldo? (Where's Wally? in some countries) movie has the potential to be a truly big and epic franchise.
If you know the original books, you might be aware of the enormous imagination and details those pages have. Not only the worlds itself, but the idea of time travel, parallel timelines, all this amazing worlds created from scratch... if they find a proper story to carry the film, they have tons of ideas for the visual aspect. There's a sense of Wally always being chased, by us the readers, but also people who follow him from page to page, world to world. There's always something going on. And we all know how time/space travel can open up things for different storylines.
I want them to start writing this thing, I'm damn sure there's a big adventure/science fiction movie behind this, if they take the character/s seriously.

Although I've never played the games, Dead Space seems like something that screams for a good movie adaptation.

Take a look at this
