Capcom Resident Evil 7 biohazard

Jesus they really are going back to horror.

I'm going to wait for the demo to go live before I really make a lot of judgements about it. Feels way too much like a Silent Hill or P.T. type of thing than either old school or new school RE. I'm kind of thinking this is going to end up being a tad of a bait and switch, just a gut feeling.

I also don't think it's a reboot, like a lot of people are assuming. Otherwise I don't think they'd call it Resident Evil VII.

I was never on the early VR bandwagon, but I think I'm plopping down full money this holiday. It's weird because horror games aren't uncommon with VR nowadays, but RE is the king-daddy.

I'm most definitely getting a friend to accompany me on the experience. No way in hell I'm doing it alone.

Is this going to be a FPS? Or in FP view? Goddammit. Looks like this will be the first Resident Evil I won't be buying if that's the case.

That's what it looks like, yes, but right now we don't know 100% for sure. It's still a bit of a mystery.

Havok posted this via the general RE thread, confirms it is not a canon reboot since RE6 is referenced, and will be first person.

Horror fans all have one thing in common: We live to be terrified. Capcom has heard fans’ masochistic cries for a Resident Evil game far more terrifying than anything that has come before it. Resident Evil 7 biohazard is the harrowing homecoming you’ve been waiting for, and it’s coming to PS4 (with the full gameplay experience also available via the included PlayStation VR Mode), Xbox One, and Windows PC (Steam and Windows 10 Store).

Capcom announced Resident Evil 7 biohazard, the next major entry in the famed Resident Evil series, today during Sony’s press conference at E3 2016 in Los Angeles, California. While Resident Evil 7 draws from the series’ roots of atmospheric survival horror, it also delivers a whole new level of terror. In the classic Resident Evil games of yesteryear, players braced for fear in the first-person via the creepy door-opening scenes, and Resident Evil 7 ramps up that tension with an immersive first-person view and a photorealistic graphical style.

Capcom is able to achieve a shocking degree of visual fidelity thanks to the new proprietary in-house RE Engine that includes VR oriented tools. Last year’s “KITCHEN” tech demo for PlayStation VR was in fact built on this new engine as well. With the RE Engine plus industry leading audio and visual technologies, you experience every abhorrent detail up close and personal in Resident Evil 7. Playing the game in the PlayStation VR Mode escalates the unsettling feeling of presence to a level that horror fans have never experienced. That’s right, the full gameplay experience is available in the included PlayStation VR Mode from beginning to end. No Resident Evil you’ve ever survived could prepare you for this.

Of course, a horror story is only as frightening as its setting, and Resident Evil 7 pays tribute to the franchise’s origins on this front as well. Resident Evil 7 is set after the events of Resident Evil 6, taking place in modern day and revolving around a foreboding, derelict plantation mansion in rural America. Players must explore and survive the horrors within the mysterious, sprawling estate.

Courageous PS4 owners can get a taste of this exciting new chapter of the Resident Evil series by downloading the “Resident Evil 7 Teaser: Beginning Hour” demo. This free demo of Resident Evil 7 is available exclusively to all PlayStation Plus subscribers at this time, and offers a sense of the intense and terrifying experience awaiting you. We don’t want to spoil your time playing Beginning Hour by offering too many details, so start your download now and prepare to face your fears.

Pre-orders for North America via the PlayStation Store are available starting today and come with the exclusive Resident Evil 7 dynamic PS4 theme. True survivalists who pre-order the Standard or Digital Deluxe version of Resident Evil 7 will receive the Survival Pack, which includes an early unlock to the hardest difficulty mode as well as a special item set when the game releases. Pre-orders for Xbox One and PC will be available soon.

The Resident Evil saga started 20 years ago with the launch of the 1996 original, and this exciting new evolution makes now the perfect time to be a fan. Experiencing the exploration and immersive atmosphere in the new, unnervingly intimate first-person view of Resident Evil 7 is guaranteed to be the stuff of nightmares when the game releases for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on January 24, 2017.

I made a joke that the camera would pan out to show Leon, and he would suplex the house.

Little did I know...

I honestly didn't think Capcom could sink Resident Evil any lower after RE6, but I was wrong.

I'll just take my Dead Rising 4, thank you.

That trailer was really ominous. Never saw Resident Evil coming. So excited.

Saw here, I literally thought it was going to be some sort of spiritual successor to P.T. at first glance. Well, in a way I guess you could say it is given that Jordan Amaro who worked on P.T. is working on RE7.

I'm a pretty big fan of the Resident Evil games (granted, I never got the chance to play RE6) and I'm very curious with the plot for this game. Less zombies and more ghost/supernatural elements by the looks of it, but I could be wrong.

Was hoping they would finally show that Resident Evil 2 remake but it might be too early to pull back the curtain on that.

Eh, I kind of doubt they'll go the supernatural route honestly. They may, but since they put biohazard as a weird subtitle I figure it'll be science gone wrong as usual.

I know they've toyed with it while Resident Evil 4 was in early development but I was kinda hoping they'd stick with the evil science stuff. I'm still excited like man, they were being pretty serious about taking the series back to it's horror elements.

Also, does anybody know that song in the trailer?

This isn't back to series roots at all, at least not the trailer. That was way more Silent Hill than RE. This way different than either the older or newer style of RE based on that reveal.

I think it'll end up being a good game. Just not one that feels like Resident Evil.

We've had so many third-person RE games, I don't see the harm in actually mixing it up for once and doing something new with the franchise.

Should be up sometime tonight. It's up in Japan.

When they were showing it at the Sony conference I thought it was going to be slenderman VR but I'm glad it's resident evil so pumped.

I'm optimistic. They've finally returned to horror, in a big way. There are three games in fixed angle and three over the shoulder. It was time for a change, especially after 6.

This has to feel immensely gratifying for Kojima. Between Allison Road, Visage, this, and others, Silent Hills managed to inspire a new generation of horror in a single demo.

I watched somebody with a Japanese PSN account stream the demo and it looks like [BLACKOUT]The Family from RE6 are the antagonists.[/BLACKOUT]

Well, right now, there's a loop going on it seems where if you fail you get a cutscene referencing this, but it's not clear if there's a win-state or not. I have also seen someone say there is reference to a [blackout]Resident Evil ambassador program? Though I'm not sure the context[/blackout]

Some people are saying the demo isn't a proper story demo, but is more of a tech demo to the new mechanics, but I don't know. Seems like it's not clear if there's a win-state or not and if there's like a hidden thing there.
