Kind of wild that they're already doing a reboot, although I don't blame them. These movies, although kind of a guilty pleasure of mine, just don't cut it. I gotta admit, I've been a little annoyed at how far they're straying from the source material, especially with the use of the T-Virus for good causes, and that they killed Leon.

I'm curious to see if they're going to pull a Sin City and do a shot-for-shot translation of the original Resident Evil game, or if they're going to completely redo the story altogether. I'm definitely curious to see who is going to play who, if they use all of the games' characters.

Now, I'm not a huge fan of Christian Bale (I think he's a good actor, but has been massively overrated since Batman Begins came out), but I could definitely see him playing Chris Redfield. Another idea I had while talking to my brother was that, if someone can pull a good performance out of him, put Ray Park in as Wesker (or maybe as a stunt double, once the real martial artist side of Wesker comes out- but I think Park has moved past just doubling for bigger actors). That said, Wesker is my favorite Resident Evil character next to Leon- so I'm saying that only if Park can be directed enough to deliver a good performance, then he should play the part.

Thoughts?

While you like Bale, he would never be in this movie. It's still under Screen Gems and there motto is "Cheap, cheap, cheap"

And a shot for shot version of Resident evil would be really silly. I don't want to see any "Jill, the master of unlocking" scenes.

I would like to see the zombie sharks.

Ray Park as Wesker? What are you smoking? And I'm all for a reboot, but I wouldn't make a 1:1 translation of the game. I'd definitely change a few things, like have a few more members of the Bravo team survive and meet up with Jill & Chris and then kill 'em throughout the movie, so Jill and Chris don't appear invincible, because they get almost unharmed through the entire mansion. Makes the monsters look weak.

I'd definitely reduce the count of monsters or get rid of some entirely. Like the plant, those cockroach things, snakes, giant Spiders, crows. Especially crows, I find it hard to imagine that there'd be a bunch of crows that don't fly off infecting the whole region.

Keep the Zombies obviously, the Dogs, at most 3 Hunters, maybe add that mutated woman from the Gamecube remake and the Tyrant. Maybe even the shark. The shark rocks. The Movie would seem way too overdrowded with all those different monster.

Keep the silly traps away, but I wouldn't mind secret passages in the mansion. Maybe make it a hightech mansion, it looks old but is actually state of the art. So for example, every door has electronic locks and is reinforced, so they could basically issue a lockdown on the building. Which Wesker would activate once they are all inside and the only way out is through the labs.

Wait....they killed off Leon in the Milla Jovovich movies? Leon was never even in the Milla Jovovich movies.

Please leave Resident Evil alone. Hollywood as pissed on it enough. PLEASE! LEAVE RESIDENT EVIL ALONE!!!!

They can't do any more damage than they already did and the games are still selling, regardless of how ****ty the movies are.

Well, here's a few things:

1. Shoudn't this be in the movie boards?

2. From the article: "While it's a long, long, long way off, the idea is to redo the story of a special military unit who fights a powerful, out-of-control supercomputer and hundreds of scientists who have mutated into flesh-eating creatures after a laboratory accident." Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that basically just the first movie's plot? Why reboot to the exact same thing

3. Paul W.S. Anderson is still going to be the producer, so that's basically strike one right off the bat

Ugh... then they don't even need to bother with a reboot.

I like the movies. Their more action then horror but I find them awesome. Also isn't their suppose to be a 4th film coming out in 2011? So they just canceled that and doing a reboot?

They are still making the 4th one, though after that they are planning to reboot the series. I don't see the point though, if they keep Anderson and just repeat the same formular.

^ Exactly. Plus isn't the movie franchise making good money off the movies? I think all 3 were good action flicks.

They sucked as faithful adaptations, are overall mediocre movies, but they somehow make enough money to warrant one sequel after another.

The problem is they made Alice (was that the protagonists name? Im not sure) into a mary sue, making the fear out of Resident Evil away. =/ Which is something people also complained about in RE5.

After 4, it lost the fear element, for me.
But 4 is still my favorite, though. I'd love if the next movie was about that.

I must have missed that Anderson was producing it. So much for a good RE movie. :(

Try re-reading what I said about Park as Wesker, for one. I not once said, "He's the man for Wesker", I said I was more interested in him under the conditions that a good performance could be pulled out of him (which I don't believe can happen), predominantly because of his abilities as a martial artist and stuntman.

Second, I didn't request a 1:1 remake, I said I was curious to see it.

No, you didn't say he's the man, but to even play with the thought? Wesker doesn't even perform many complex martial arts moves in the first place, to even take Ray Park into consideration. You can easily teach actors to perform a few roundhouse kicks.

I didn't say you did. I was generally speaking how I'd adapt the first game.

Do you enjoy the games? What fan of the game franchise can possibly say they enjoy the films?

I'm more playing with him in as Wesker's stunt double (which, again, I said he's probably too "big" of a name now to do that again) since, sure, you can teach people some roundhouses, but you can't just toss in any actor or stuntman and have him fight as fluidly and as brutally as Wesker does. Also, again, if you'd read my post, you'd see I clearly stated, "If someone can pull a good performance out of him".

For one, Ray Park is well-respected in both the martial arts and the stunts communities. For two, you'd be shocked at how hard it is to get guys who don't have that kind of training- especially adult males who have never done that kind of thing- to begin throwing pretty kicks or fight as beautifully as Wesker does in the fifth game. For three- there's also nothing stopping whatever choreographer that jumps in board from making a more badass fighter out of Wesker than what we've seen in the games.

I didn't say you did. I was generally speaking how I'd adapt the first game.

I was just making sure we were clear on that.

Me. I'm a fan of the games and enjoy the movies. I won't deny that. I simply watch them with no expectations and just for fun, knowing that it's far away from the games.

Nah, I can't picture him as Chris, but I can picture Joe Manganiello in the role:

They're incredibly alike, already, and he is not a bad actor.

If it's a reboot starting from the beginning of game 1, it's best not to look for actors that look like RE5 Chris

I'm a lot less worried about how the actor looks, and more worried about if he can play the character accurately.

So you pick any good actor?
Appearance is also important, and he can play it properly.
Wentworth Miller is nothing like the character and I'll hardly take him as Chris while watching.

No, I'd just rather not see this get turned into a look-alike contest, like all the Batman "casting" threads.
