Resident Evil CGI movie in the works

Well Umbrella still exists in RE4 you know. They are still there. Krauser works for them. Wesker I believe is still Umbrella. Ada works for them but is actually a double agent to another organization, the name of which we don't know.

She's also still in love with Leon.

I liked this trailer. Finally something that actually LOOKS like Resident Evil. If this is basically like the RE franchise's answer to Advent Children. I have no problem with that. I'm sick of the Milla movies we've been forced fed.

Zombie havoc in an airport, Claire, Leon, and zombies. Looks good. The story sets it one year after RE4, since this is 7 years after Racoon City. RE4 was six.

I wonder if Leon is still working for the secret service and if he's hooked up with Ashley or the hot radio chick from 4.

Oy. I don't think I've ever been more dissapointed in my life than when everything in the first 4 games, books, comics, and all other forms of media were building towards a final showdown with Umbrella just to have them completely skip and ignore the entire thing with RE4. Bla bla, I know the gameplay was much better than any of the previous games, but I'm never going to forgive that blatant cop out of a "storyline." There was barely any story as it was, and none of it had jack **** to do with any of the previous games :-P
It was still a great game that took the story in a new direction, so it would not get tired and stale. Would you rather have just another game that told the same story, in the same place, at the same time? Or would you enjoy some familiar characters, an in depth story, and a really eerie backdrop?
Its just a game kid, relax, you'll live longer.

I think if you've played four games, where the main threat is an evil company that develops bio weapons, you'd expect one of the sequel to be a game that deals with their downfall. Not just skip the whole event and start with a totally different story.

yes but aren't we getting that game now? RE5?
and seriously if you want them to be in a rut, then thats your problem. I'm glad they tried something new.

It's not that I have anything against something new, it's also not like I think RE4 was crap or anything. The point is that there should've been a game that deals with the downfall of Umbrella, not just simply skip it.

That's like watching a Movie where you've got that really dangerous enemy, and right before it comes to the final showdown, the movie suddenly cuts to the end with the main characters only commenting how tough the battle was. You'll be like "WTF?"

The teaser trailer looked OK. Can't say anything yet.

gotcha.
I'm a fan of the series too. I didn't see this as an avoidance of the fall of umbrella, I just sort of thought it was kind of a side adventure, or a spin off.
I'm thinking that RE 5 will be the game that you want to see.

Honestly I was getting tired of the Umbrella plots. RE4 was a breath of fresh air.

Plus Umbrella isn't gone. It's still alive and well with Wesker and possibly Krauser. I don't think Krauser can be killed.

Ada is working for Umbrella while being a double agent/spy for her real organization.

i'm not much into the cgi and the lack of realistic perspective. idk I rather have real actors not this.

But somehow it seems that we might only get a decent story with CGI. Come on, we had 3 live action Movies already, and the movies only got worse with each sequel.

Then buy the collects set DVD trilogy of the three crappy live action movies they already made.

Its not all photo-realistic either. The characters are faithful to their designs from the game. So they have a more game/anime type of look than going for hyper-realism/or as close to 100% photo-realism as possible in Beowulf.

Beowulf, I thought looked pretty impressive at times, but was overall a disappointment.

I think CG has good applications for animation, Beowulf just didn't do a good job with it.

I know they can do the story lines with cgi but it would be awesome if they didn't have to. It just looks like your watching the video at the beginning a video game you just bought.

overall most people i see movies with and hang with liked the trilogy. the 3rd i liked the best since they improved the zombie look.

This is news to me. It looks kind of cool, but as others have said it looks like a really good cut scene right now. As long as it has a good story to it it should be okay.

but unlike Advent Children, we've seen RE characters better rendered in many of the games so in a sense some of the coolness of seing better versions of the characters is a bit lost.

Well I think most people that like the RE probably watch TRL and liked to get baked and watch Milla Jovovich.

Seriously, Wesker sucked and was an absolute wuss in that terrible third movie.

In the games Wesker is a powerful villain you DO NOT MESS WITH.

Cut scenes for RE games > all of the RE live action movie trilogy.

Yeah, but do they know the games? I can like something too, if I don't know what the original story is like.

i know the game storyline and it would cost a fortune to incorporate it all into a live action movie. sometimes they just get too sidetrack and leave out some of the best things RE has. They can do alot more with CGI but I'm just not into an all cgi movie.

It wouldn't cost a fortune, you just need to know your priorities. Let's take the first game for example, we know it has an abundance of Monsters, but I'd simply leave half of them, or even 2/3 of them out of the Movie. I'd keep it simple, only Zombies, Dogs, maybe a Hunter or two and then in the final act the Tyrant. That's it. And no silly traps. Of course Chris and Jill would explore the Mansion together and locate the entrance to the secret Umbrella Facility, etc.

considering Barry and Rebecca are a big part of it. I would still keep Chris and Jill seperated for most of the movie. Jill and Barry have a great story line together.

but if they didn't want to make direct translations of the games in the first place, which I do understand, they could still have made something that fit in with the Resident evil universe and incorporated elements of the games better.

I think Resident Evil 2 would be the easiest game to translate into a movie though. Since it has a more conventional zombie movie set up with a bit less monsters than the other games and more character interaction. It's also my favorite game and the one I would want to see the most.

That trailer was pretty kick@$$. The animation isn't as good as Advent Children, but it's still at least on par with the game series' recent standards. This should make a pretty good companion piece to the games.

The airport sets and the plane animation looked fantastic IMHO.

You know the only thing I didn't really care for was the music in the trailer.

CG or not, this will at least give a good indication whether a true RE movie can be made. Since the games are obviously quieter and slower, I wonder what the pacing will be like. And what new monsters we can look forward to.

I'm actually excited about this. Considering what I thought when I first saw the title of this thread, I thought it was going to be related to the crapfest movies.

This IS the true RE movie.

A true RE movie is not live action.
