"An End to Evil?
Resident Evil: Extinction the last in the movie series?
by IGN Staff
December 15, 2006 - While rumors of a fourth installment in the videogame-based series persist, a new official synopsis released today by Sony matter-of-factly states that the third movie in the franchise, Resident Evil: Extinction, will be the last.
The studio refers to the flick as "the third and final installment" of Resident Evil, and goes on to give a breakdown of Extinction's action:
Alice (Milla Jovovich), now in hiding in the Nevada desert, once again joins forces with Carlos Olivera (Oded Fehr) and L.J. (Mike Epps), along with new survivors Claire (Ali Larter), K-Mart (Spencer Locke) and Nurse Betty (Ashanti) to try to eliminate the deadly virus that threatens to make every human being undead... and to seek justice. Since being captured by the Umbrella Corporation, Alice has been subjected to biogenic experimentation and becomes genetically altered, with super-human strengths, senses and dexterity. These skills, and more, will be needed if anyone is to remain alive.
The flick also stars Iain Glen, Chris Egan and Jason O'Mara. Russell Mulcahy directed from a script written by franchise producer Paul W.S. Anderson.
Resident Evil: Extinction hits theaters on September 21, 2007."

Thank the Lord!!!

Seen the available pics? Milla's packing some serious blades! If she's moving up from the baton, I expect lots of dicing!

Ugh. Why they couldn't just stick to the games is beyond me. They practically wrote themselves.

Yeah they did.
They should have let Alice disappear at the end of the first one and never mention her again.
We just assume she was killed or in a military prison.
The second film should have been the mansion.

I hope they don't do 4...because they would only taint a great game imo. I know it wouldn't follow the plot of the 4th game but no resident evil movie from the current franchise deserves the honor of being called "Resident Evil 4".

Screw Alice. The first film should have been the mansion. The second film should have been some epic 3 hour film mixing RE2 and 3.

Well I suppose the bright side is that we can expect no more crap with a RE tag slapped on it after Extinction. What I don't get is, how the hell did this piece of crap franchise manage to get through to a triliogy. It boggles my mind.

They should have just formatted the books written by S.D.Perry. You have an awesome franchise right there.

Too many crap film makers are allowed to spew movies out these days.

Good, the first two sucked so I don't expect much from this one.

I think a re-start would be the best thing to do. Ignore the other Resident Evil films and use the plot of the first Resident Evil game as for a movie. And then the sequel could be Resident Evil 2. So much potential flushed down the toilet.

I didn't mind the first Resident Evil movie, I wasn't to fond of it's sequel, however.

I remember seeing the trailer for first one in the theater with my two cousins, we were all like "Oh yeah, I can't wait for this!" Then we saw it and it was so different from the game we were pissed.

"K-Mart" "Nurse Betty"? This is gonna suck beyond belief. Paul Anderson must die.

Huge creepy mansion, zombies and mutants, T-Virus, S.T.A.R.S, Umbrella....how could they have missed it all? That's what the first movie should've been all about, and follow up with Resident Evil 2.

Like I said, I didn't mind the first Resident Evil movie, but to me, it really didn't feel like Resident Evil. More like Matrix with zombies.

Sigh, one can dream right?

Indeed, those books did rule. Especially the one with the zombie dinosaurs. It pissed me off how both the games and the books built to a climax and then Resident Evil 4 finally came out and just completely skipped it. I'm all for redoing the gameplay, but they could have at least wrapped up the storyline.

I agree, those S.D Perry movies would've been the perfect source to draw the movie from. I have all the S.D Perry Resident Evil books, they're excellent reading.

the franchise as movies have performed mediocre at best...they'd be right to end it at a third. And leave it alone for a long time. If only they had followed a less cheezy approach to the video game aspect of the movie...and focused on the things that made the game great...the movies might have been the sh**! Because if they made a movie of Resident Evil 4 the video game...not only does the game blow me away...but a movie would be an incredible feat.

From what I understand "The Umbrella Chronicles" for Wii is going to gap the bridge between Code Veronica and RE4.

I don't remember where I saw it, but I know Capcom wants to restart the Resident Evil films after Extinction.
They want to get rid of Anderson and go with a new director.

That sounds good.

Yes, K-Mart, who is sure to go down as one of the most memorable screen characters our generation has ever produced.

:whatever:

Thank god it's the last one, it hurts me to know people actually enjoy these movies.
