Resident Evil: The Final Chapter

Its not really a motorcycle ad, but I can see why, some people would think that at first, especially if they don't know Raccoon City.

They don't bomb. They are done on the cheap and make big money. I like them but I know what they are and I don't think this is going to be the end of the series.

With Milla as Alice? Probably. But they will either reboot or spin off sequels at some point.

I wouldn't be surprised to hear we get a reboot in five years or so. The franchise is a money maker.

yeah they dont bomb the largest budget a resident evil has gotten was 65 million

Which enables them to be mediocre. I mean, some of the movies are fun and a good time killer, but none of them are actually legit good movies.

The franchise has so much potential to be so good, but sadly, Paul WS Anderson is the ultimate C student.

I feel they may decide to just do a reboot of the original game series with Chris and Claire as the leads at some point.

I would love a reboot that was closer to the source material and didn't have stupid made-up characters as the lead. Don't get me wrong I would never expect a Resident Evil movie to be a masterpiece but it can be better than this trash series.

At least this series is ending.

Upon finally watching Alien and Aliens, I think they had a blueprint on how to make this film franchise superior to what it currently is.

I really think Resident Evil writes itself, and Paul WS Anderson screwed it up.

I just don't get why he kept the characters from the Mortal Kombat games as the leads of the film but didn't do that with Resident Evil?

I wouldn't have complained about a massive amount of changes but just keep the freakin characters and the general story.

And now I'm going to go full nerd on you and nit pick like a mofo. The Licker was not created by the t-virus, it was created by the g-virus in Resident Evil 2 so it shouldn't have even been in that first movie. And also the Licker is not some main boss, they aren't even as tough as the Hunters in Resident Evil 1996.

This was basically just a starring vehicle for Anderson's wife, I don't think anyone involved really cared about the games or characters.

Even if he wasn't the one screwing up, the games story is a mess.

Lickers don't evolve either, that farter went up in size in the movie.

And here I thought the director actually plays these games.

I think his plan in the beginning was for the first movie to be a prequel, then the sequels were going to be what everyone was familiar with, and he also said like the games, every movie was going to have new leads.

But he went and got married to Milla Jovovich and pretty much gave her the franchise.

Perhaps it would help if you do some research on the subject. When Capcom was first shopping the property around they had gotten script treatments from George Romero that used names and places from the games but altered a lot of them. The script is available online even ends in such a way that Resident Evil 2 and Nemesis could never take place. After they parted ways with Romero and what ever studio was going to finance/produce the movie, they ended up taking Anderson's offer of an original story that at the time took place before the events of the first game (of course their own RE0 game later told that story officially).

Mortal Kombat probably ended up using the characters because that is probably what the game studio was looking for and like most fighting games, the storyline is as barebones as they come and there isn't really ever one lead character so they just tossed them all in.

Also, the licker is most definitely a creation of the T-virus. Virtually nothing in RE2 was g-virus related except for Birkin. Capcom fleshed out the details of the licker with the REmake and outbreak games. The licker is the continued mutation of a human host infected with the T-virus through the what Umbrella dubbed the v-act process. It goes zombie, crimson head, proto-licker from Outbreak then full licker. RE2 also featured a slightly discolored and much more damage resistant licker that was running around Birkin's lab. It isn't a mutation as extreme as what the movie did but the movie did say that particular licker running around the hive was released too early and was in an unstable condition.

For me this are fun B movies. I think I enjoyed most of them, and those I didnt I forget them sooner than later. They are nothing like a game, I know that. I'm just waiting for reboot. I hope this is truly last movie of this franchise until the reboot. This franchise has so much potential, success of this movies at box office proves that.

The nerd-o-meter has gone off the chart and is now broken.

I think the first movie is a decent one, or at least has swell ideas.
The laser grid trap was too much though.

I can't believe I'm saying this but I've been catching up on the RE movies recently and I've made it to #5 and....believe it or not I actually for the most part enjoy these movies. They know exactly what they are and don't try to be anything else. The only one i thought was legitimately BAD was #2. That movie was just plain silly and the action wasn't even that good. But I thought #1 was legitimately good and 3 and 4 were very fun movies with some kickass action scenes. I'm actually....kind of looking forward to this "Final Chapter" now.

2 > 5

Boy will my math teachers blow more than one fuse if they've seen this.[/blackout]

Opinions and all, but I think 1 and 2 are the only really decent ones. RE at least set up a universe, despite using very little from the games. The second is full of fan service, but they still shove Alice to the forefront. After that I barely remember them. I know the last has Leon and Barry....or they looked like them anyway.

^They also used Ada, and recreated the action in this scene

But used Alice instead of Leon.
I think they kept the "knives" line in it as well.

I like the first one too. It's nothing amazing, but I remember liking it ok when it first came out.

You know what really bothered me #2 and I think was a deal breaker? Nemesis. More specifically his makeup. Holy crap Nemesis looked BAD. Like Cosplay bad. It took me out of the movie. If he had actually looked more like the scary intimidating beast from the game I would've been more engaged but he just did not look good to me even though they did more or less copy his exact look from the game. They just didn't translate it well, in my opinion. Also, the directorial jump from Wes Anderson to Alexander Witt was VERY noticeable in almost every aspect of the movie. I feel like if Anderson directed #2, he would've done Nemesis better.

Can't believe Mila has been doing this series for 14 years

I just finished #5. I...didn't like this one as much as the others (besides #2 which I thought was utter garbage). There were two main things that annoyed me: 1) the SLOOOW MO action, Anderson waaay overdid the slo mo in this one, there was some good fight choreography that I wish he would have just let play out naturally but every kick, punch and flip was slo-mo'd to Hell and kind of ruined it. There's always been slo mo shots in the series but they were used sparingly up until this point, I hope its not like this in The Final Chapter.

And 2) The characters. Every actor in this movie gave plank wooden performances and the line delivery was ATROCIOUS. I mean, wow. The acting has never been the standout in this series but this was an all time low. Besides Milla, who has natural screen presence and maybe Boris Kodjoe who was doing the best with what he had, the characters were just paper thin and were only there for exposition. Leon Kennedy and Ada Wong, in particular were literally wasted characters with horrible, horrible actors portraying them.

Overall, I've mostly had a good time watching this whole series for the first time. They're popcorn fun with some standout over the top action sequences throughout the films but 2 and 5 were a little too incoherent even for a dumb action film. Still looking forward to this last film, it looks like Anderson is going all out in the finale.

So I saw this. I love Resident Evil with all my little heart. It's probably among my absolute favorite intellectual properties on earth. That said, I really really ****ing hope this is the last of these movies. This one is better than the last, but the lack of give a **** on display from the Director is astounding.
