Horror Resident Evil Reboot

Internation trailer is better

This trailer is definitely better than the one we got IMO, especially without the random, out of place song choice which I did not like at all and completely took me out of it.

Hell they even made Leon look a bit more badass with that cool shot of him using the grenade launcher which I'm surprised wasn't in the offcial trailer since that's definitely a money shot you would want to use.

I still can't tell if its going to be any good, but atleast that international trailer swayed me in a more positive direction than I was in before which is honestly all I was asking for.

I was hoping for like a really well crafted film (well production wise) but this is not it. The zombies, the locations, there's 1 shot of a creature that looks unfinished... like I can tell its inspired by Resident Evil (unlike the siX part Project Alice saga) but it looks like an indie film studio adapting the RE games, rather than a big studio.

Plus them merging 2 storylines in a possibly 90 to 100 minute film. This is just not ideal for a Resident Evil film reboot.

Something about this…doesnt feel right. Feels low rent, feels …off. They’re technically hitting the notes we RE fans want but…I dont know.
Just check out filmography of the director. Dirty deeds done dirt cheap. The guy didn't outgrow his indie roots.

Actually, if you cut out the puzzles and backtracking, the stories of the first two games are quite short.

I've seen some bad song choices and needle drops in movie trailers before, but that was definitely one of the worst.

It basically looks like they've smooshed RE1&2 together and like they are basically happening at the same time which I don't get. It may not happen that way in the film, but it looks like the mansion and Raccoon City are basically happening at the same time.

The monsters and visual effects look awful. Everything looks cheesy, unfinished, and badly lit. It looks even worse than the visuals of Paul Anderson's films, the first of which came out 19 years ago.

I can't accept Tom Hopper as Wesker. There's nothing Wesker about him. None of the actors look particularly impressive or striking to me as their characters in any way.

The movie comes out in literally weeks and this is the only trailer they have? For an exclusive theatrical release? It's idiotic.

Honestly, I love the Resident Evil license but I never expect it to spawn a "great" movie. I mean, it's not a very subtle universe. In my opinion, all that adaptation needs to do is to be true to the original identity of the game (and avoid just looking like another random zombie movie), and to be entertaining. Nothing more, nothing less.

From what I see there, it's already a win for the first part. It looks very faithfull, almost too much but I won't complain. I didn't expect them to embrass it so much.
For the second part, given how they are apparently building the plot around the first two games, it would take a certain degree of incompetence not to craft a dynamic action movie out of it. So I choose to be optimistic.

If they are successful on those aspects, I can easily ignore some subpar FX. That little "fan movie" vibe kind of enhances the B movie flavor. After all, the license is born from it, and it would just now coming full circle.
If the movie ends up just being a little guilty pleasure, frankly, that's all I ask.

Those trailers confuses me... the US one made me think that Claire comes to Raccoon to warn Chris about Umbrella and the whole zombie situation and then the STARS team go to the mansion. If that the case, I don't like it...

But the INT one is different, it seems that Claire arrives at Raccoon RIGHT AFTER the mansion incident...

I don't know... The mansion incident was on July 24, 1998 and the arrival of Claire to Raccoon was on September 29, 1998 according to the games. But the date on these trailers is September 30, 1998

They are short but im assuming from the trailer - Rebecca, Barry, Ada and Sherry aren't in this. And with additional character development/back story, Re1 could easily have been a feature film on its own.

I feel like the remakes (well 1and 2) gave them a template how to adapt these games in live action but nope.

Baffling song choice of that trailer aside, it looks like it could be good? Maybe it's just bad Sony marketing. I don't mind the lower budget look of it. That can give it character. Maybe it's a scrappy movie with limited resources but a solid story like a Dredd; there looks like a possible good movie in there. I'll keep an open mind, but it won't be shocking if this ends up a disappointment. This can't be worse than the Anderson films at least.

I love that 4 Non Blondes song but OMG what were they THINKING pairing it with this?!

Yeah the song choice was bad.

The international trailer is better... but you get a "better" look at William Birkin at the end or whatever that creature is.

Dumb out of touch executives who think they are cool and hip and know better but really don't.

Even the mansion looks bad. It looks tiny. Here's the movie mansion foyer:

In fairness, the foyer didn't look especially large in the PS1 original, either.

Also, are they biting off more than they can chew using all four main RE characters from the get go? Why not just follow the game’s trajectory? Start small with Chris and Jill, make it a gritty, lean, mean, well directed zombie film and then expand the world with Leon and Claire in the sequel?

4 Non Blondes' What's Up is a great song but it doesn't fit the tone or what's happening at all.

Way more.

I admire them trying to get things right, the mansion, the first zombie, all look cool. Honestly, overall though, it looks cheap and awful to me. The trailer music was also just...no.

This looks straight out of the Venomverse, haha. I think I can enjoy it that way. It does also have a cheap "straight outta Netflix movie" quality but I will watch for the eye candy alone :hehe:
