Horror Resident Evil Reboot

I'm still confused how they are doing the mansion and the RPD in one movie. Is the RPD supposed to be the B plot?

Also, why is Claire hitching with the truck driver from RE2 Remake?
It looks like the viral outbreak in 2 is happening before the mansion raid.

Once again this makes no sense to me at all. If you wanted to totally reboot RE as a franchise, you don't do it this way. RE1 is actually like you're perfect setup, standalone story. It's smaller scale. It's just the mansion and the mansion facility. You basically could've made this into something like The Raid or even DREDD 3D.

RE2&3 are the stories that happen right against each other, and that's all of Raccoon City and the RPD.

I'm not sure why you would want to handicap the films right off the bat by squashing RE1&2 together.

For one thing, it looks like this film has marginalized Jill Valentine and given all her important parts to Claire.

I was actually thinking how would 3 work in the context of this film now? :funny:

Sam Raimi is the master of unlocking the charm in cheesy one-liners.

You think RE3, but I doubt they will even give Mr. X proper screen time and presence. He'll be as vital as he may seem to a remake speed runner, in Claire's gameplay, just run past him two or three times and most of what he does is adjust his hat and gets sliced by Billy in his form 1 G.

Oh that's right! I bet Mr. X is the Titan that's released instead.

My hope was that they'd actually just adapt the Perry novels tbh. I mean there's a decent blueprint for how to adapt the games' narrative, right there.

I gotta read them again but I remember thinking at the time that it blew my mind that a decent starting point for any RE movie is literally in print and the Alice movies completely ignored it.

Guess nothing has changed since then lol

I think RE3 is basically out the window because the city outbreak appears to be happening concurrently with the mansion raid. So the STARS team gets stranded in the mansion while Leon and Claire are checking things out in the city and have to fight their way out. And Jill is in that group.

That is unless they are attempting some weird SAW editing here and events are not happening concurrently.

I mean I could be wrong here, but it doesn't appear that Jill's role in this story is as large as the first game and RE3.

A Mike Flanagan Resident Evil Netflix series with the production values of The Haunting Hill House. Yay or nay to this idea?

Between this and Cowboy Bebop, it seems we are in for a couple badly made fan projects this year.

Not really Flanagan's speed. After Malignant, I feel like James Wan is the obvious answer for someone with a decent profile.

RE2 is pretty heavily inspired by the Alien franchise, particularly Aliens, so we already kinda have the perfect RE movie, and it was released 12 years prior to RE2 happening.

You seem to have forgotten this

Jesus if this ends up being worse than that crappy MK reboot we got this year than we are seriously heading into dire times again when it comes to videogame adaptations.

I was really hoping those days were behind us after enjoying a few of those films recently like the Sonic The Hedgehog and Detective Pikachu, but if these studios still can't get these properties right than that would be even more of a crushing disapointment since I'm such a big Resident Evil fan and have wanted to see a film that accuartely captures the tone and atmoesphere of those earlier games since 2002.

It's sad to me that we are here many years later and still can't get a movie that does this franchise justice, but then again I guess I shoudn't be too surprised considering the crappy state of so many franchises these days.

At least the animated movies are... somewhat of an appropriate adaption.

Don't worry, Illumination's Super Mario Bros. will redeem everything!

:o
I sincerely want to believe this to be actually true and forget the strong level of disapproval audience have for it, but I've been stung too many times by giving these movies the marginal benefit of the doubt they did not deserve.

I will probably go see this. Looks better than any of the Alice films.

As some may say, damning with faint praise. It's sort of like when Terminator: Dark Fate came out. I don't think critics calling it the "best Terminator sequel since T2" helped that film at all while saying it. No one really wants to hear a Terminator movie is the best sequel since T2. You're only really saying it's better than a bunch of other really subpar, mediocre movies that don't come close to living up to the first two films. No one really cares that it's better than those last three movies that didn't do Terminator justice.

Hmmmm.....it doesn't really look good but it looks fun? Surprised it looks so cheap as one of my favorite cinematographers did this. Maybe only having the 40 million they gave them was biting off more then they could chew. Should have focused on more practical effects instead of CGI they couldn't do succesfully.

Will still watch.

Ok what is up with the insane US trailer? Ridiculous choice of music and crazy frantic editing. The International trailer is much, much better though the movie still looks bad and ridiculously cheap. I like a lot of the actors involved here but I don’t think this is going to be good for any of them.

Looking at both trailers again, whatever happens with this movie good or bad, I doubt this movie dethrones Werewolves Within as the best horror videogame movie, and by extension the best videogame movie ever(which obviously ain’t saying much, but still). :o

The international trailer is better than the domestic one.

Sandwiching RE & RE2 together if not more games is making my head hurt. Maybe it won’t for the few that see the movie but have never played the games.

I disliked the Anderson movie(s) so the floor is pretty low for this but it at least seems somewhat more faithful in overall feel or tone to the source material.

What's Silent Hill? Castlevania, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Contra are the only things Konami cares about.
Hopefully the rumors are true that Konami is working on HD rereleases of Silent Hill, Metal Gear and Castlevania are true. Supposedly these rerelease are to lead to new games in the series. Konami has been crap lately but this could put them back in the good graces of the fans
