More details are leaking out on the Resident Evil franchise reboot. James Wan has come aboard to produce the first of the Resident Evil reboots from a script by Greg Russo, we’re hearing and it will have an entirely new cast. Russo wrote Mortal Kombat and Wan is known for producing the box office coups Lights Out, Annabelle and Saw, to name a few.

And... now they're already off to a much better start.

That, and the fact that it became a superhero franchise. Michelle Rodriguez was basically playing Bane at the end of the fifth film.

Y'know, as the RE movies went on I realised that Jovovich was basically playing Black Widow! Skin-tight black leathers - check; red hair - check; crazy enhancements/martial arts/weapons skills - check; hell, she's even got the genuine accent!

Agreed the first movie should follow the first game with elements of Zero thrown in. Did the movies ever shoehorn Rebecca Chambers like the other main characters? Guess it will be her time to shine now in whatever capacity. I also agree that RE2 and RE3 could be one movie as they are set in the same timeline so yes, Birkin and Nemesis existing in the same movie wouldn't be too bad an idea.

Also, agree that Wesker MUST be a main antagonist through the series - and I never really did understand why he despised Chris so much.

Now I just had a little daydream visualising what an amazing movie could be like under Denis Villeneuve's direction. We would have the stunning cinematography from Roger Deakins not to mention the scoring capabilities of Jóhann Jóhannson too. A movie of that magnitude could be equally compelling AND even scary. Heck, I'm also imagining Emily Blunt as Jill Valentine all of a sudden. Hmm, it does sorta feel like a Sicario scenario now, doesn't it?

Either way, daydream aside - I know this will never happen! Good to hear that James Wan will be overseeing the franchise though. No more Alice, like EVER!

Wesker hates him because he's constantly been the one messing his plans up, and also one of the few law enforcement officials that refused to be silenced or bought off regarding the t virus origins apparently.

So glad they are re-booting this, just hope they do that right this time. And yeah, have the first movie just be in the mansion like the games.

Aim for a tetralogy based on 1, 2, Nemesis, Zerø and Veronica! And if it works out, do 4 to 7 then. But as long as they adapt the first three canon games, with proper adaptation of Jill, Chris, Rebecca, Barry, Albert, Leon, Claire, Ada, Sherry and Carlos. I'd be content.

Anyway, if film studios just try to do a faithful adaptation per videogame entry similar to Ya books film adaptations, I think they'd be more successful. Anyway,these Re movies could be done in lower budget especially the movies were bigger in scale and were done in a budget of less than 70 million. So if they know what they are doing, these movies don't need a lot of money in order to make sequels.

Also 2 and Nemesis should be separate movies. I just think if they are adapted into 1 single movie, they'd be introducing a lot of new characters and they would change the story so Jill would meet up with Claire and Leon. I mean it'd be weird if they are in 1 movie and they never met.

After that, I could care less. The coolest thing about the later sequels, which the movies of course obliviously ignored, is that the world did not get destroyed by the T-Virus. It was contained and bioweaponry just becomes another form of WMD with it destabilizing third world and failed states, and the heroes are often government agents who have to go in and investigate or contain the situation.

With that said, the plots to RE4 and RE5 are really silly. So I am not sure if they would work as films.

You and I think alike. I'd be content if we just get a trilogy based from 1/2 and Nemesis. Zero is a total prequel material which isn't really needed. While Veronica, I guess is needed to complete the arc of Claire, Wesker and Chris.

While 4 to 7 are additional stories (mostly featuring 1 and done characters) which are only necessary if the movies performed great.

Second game has the biggest scenario (and two alternate stories) out of all three originals, I don't see why its story should be merged with RE3 in one movie when the mansion plot alone should be the plot of one movie.

What I'd consider ideal:

First film - RE1 with a little bit of RE0 for Rebecca's sake. Leave Billy's fate ambiguous/unknown. I'd end the film with Chris, Jill and Rebecca getting away with Brad while Barry is missing.

Second film - RE2, the whole sha-bang with references to the previous film and other things such as Outbreak for Marvin's sake.

Third film - RE3 with Chickenheart Vickers having more of a prominent role so when his death comes, we feel what Jill is feeling. Barry returns at the end of the film (like in one of the endings) and we get a sense of closure with Raccoon City being destroyed.

I'd aim for Code Veronica, RE4, RE5, and maybe RE7 moving forward. All depends on their plan, which apparently is 6.
