Horror Resident Evil Reboot

Now that Ive thought about it Code Veronica is as essential as Nemesis. Especially at one point, it was considered as Re3, and as the true sequel to Re2. And it'd just be weird not to have Claire find his brother and not have Chris/Wesker continue their rivalry or whatever that was in the first game.

So a quadrilogy is a must have. While Zerø can be the "spin-off/prequel movie" of the series.

And if the demand is still there, 4/5 can be the reboot/next chapter kind of thing with six as the all star reunion.

I would prefer they adapt Resident Evil Rebirth and use some aesthetics from 7 in an initial reboot. It would be grim, bleak, and focus on horror confined in one area, the Arklay Estate from Rebirth.

If they don't want to go the hard R sci fi horror route but prefer more action horror, I think a reboot adapting Resident Evil 3 with flashbacks of Rebirth would work too. We would get the backstory about STARS, Wesker, Umbrella and the T-virus, while also getting essentially a zombie apocalypse film.

If they do go for the action horror zombie apocalypse film, they really need to make sure it is very different in tone, cinematography, and plot than the Milla Apocalypse film or really any recent zombie films.

One thing that could really help either of them stand out, would be do something that taps into classic horror films, especially John Carpenter's The Thing and David Cronenburg's The Fly.

I'm sitting back and waiting to see what Fincher does with this WWZ sequel. If that can be a template so be it.

1st: Resident Evil 1
2nd: Resident Evil 2, they don't get out of the city
3rd: Resident Evil 3 but with the RE2 characters included, Claire and Chris are reunited, functional as an ending
4th (if they even get that far): Claire, Chris, Leon, and maybe Jill work together to take down Umbrella. This would help Leon to transition to his RE4 version. They can draw from Code Veronica and include regenerators and the return of Ada. Also functional as an ending.
5th: A heavily edited Resident Evil 4. The game was too all over the place, which can be good for variety in a game, but a movie should be better focused. Lose Umbrella and the science lab and Ada (see the movie above) and keep it about Los Ganados. Lose the dwarf, too.
6th: ??? I don't know RE5, but I do know there was a negative response to the African "zombies". Maybe they could work off of Resident Evil 6 and have Umbrella be revived, or maybe they could just move on to RE7.

I still think 2&3 can get put together. Jill, Claire and Leon cover similar ground in those games. Doing them separate is a mistake.

RE3 covers small parts of the R.P.D. building, most of the story takes place away from RE2 characters, and a different time.

Sure, but a mainstream audience may feel like they're retreading the same ground if there are two back to back movies that are somewhat similar. Also, having Jill in there gives you that umbilical to the first film, should they adapt the first game.

This makes sense.

The audience is going to want that connection and having Jill as the primary protagonist in the "mansion" film and then a mix of 2 and 3 into a "Raccoon City" film makes sense.

I wouldn't center either film around her though, just make her the primary protagonist in a traditional Five Man Band.

I. Mansion film: Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield, Barry Burton, Rebecca Chambers, and Albert Wesker (the Judas of the group).

II. Raccoon City film: Jill, Claire Redfield, Leon Kennedy, Carlos Oliveira, and Ada Wong (the Judas).

If they manage to get to a 3rd film, I would look at adapting parts of Code Veronica, Lost in Nightmares and the Umbrella Chronicles into one film about the fall of the Umbrella Corporation with the five man band being Jill, Claire, Chris, Leon, and Steve Burnside (the Judas).

This would open up the last three films to be a new post Umbrella trilogy, adapting 4, 5, and 6 into a "Plagas" trilogy. Though I would change Wesker into the arc villain, with him being the final big bad of the last film, instead of being killed in Africa.

One more thing: Julia Voth needs to be cast as Jill Valentine

I'd hate for them to cram re2/3 in one film just because both games featured rcpd. Seriously. There's more things going on in those games other than the police station most especially that place was just a small portion of re3. How are you gonna introduce Sherry, Ada, Leon, Claire, Brian, Annette, William and Ben when you also need to develop Jill and also introduce the Nemesis, Brad, U.B.C.S and Carlos. The good thing about Re3 is its just Jill and Carlos as the last two survivors (three if you count Nicholai) trying to escape the city before the bomb annihilates the city and you would take that away if the Re2 gang are also in the film. Is the Nemesis gonna stalk Leon and Claire too? Keep them separated and it won't be a mistake. Cramming 2 games into 1 film would be the mistake.

One can easily cram those characters into one film. There are tons of examples of films doing similar crams, especially the recent Marvel films.

A Raccoon City film would begin pre outbreak and it would be easy to introduce all of the characters in that pre outbreak act. In fact it would give more development to most of the characters than the games had.

Some of the characters could even be introduced in the Mansion film, especially Claire, Ben, Chief Irons, and possibly files/video with the Birkins. Brad would be introduced in the mansion film, he was the helicopter pilot for STARS Alpha Team.

RE3 Nemesis actually starts before RE2, takes place during, and after. Its not just Jill and Carlos. Only the last act after the destruction of the hospital and Jill recovers at the church does the plot in the game shift to just Jill and Carlos with a race to escape before the city is bombed.

There are two routes the character of Nemesis could be adapted to. The first and easiest would be to take Nemesis and the Tyrant from RE2 and adapt them into the same character. The second would be to take a cue from Jurassic Park, with its two major stalking enemies, the T-Rex and Velociraptors. The Nemesis would be introduced early, while the Tyrant is brought in later possibly due to problems with Nemesis. At the climax, a battle between the two inadvertently allow the main characters to escape similar to Jurassic Park.

I can see a merger of RE1 and RE3 happening, and it would be more sensible than having RE2 and RE3 as one story.

They should do them per 1 videogame.

Re1 - the mansion up to the labotary
Re2 - the streets then to thepolice station up to the secret laboratory
Re3 - Raccoon city itself

It'd be easier to adapt and they could explore other characters and add stuff instead of cherry picking/cramming stuff from multiple games into 1 film.

And I don't se e how the merger of Re1/re3 is a goo d idea.

I'm in no hurry to get them out of Raccoon City. It's too easy for the story to fall apart or lose its horror roots after that.

Also, while there are times that movies try to do too much in a single film, that's not to their benefit.

There are only four Raccoon City videogames, the rest like Outbreak, Operation, Chronicles are just extensions which in my opinion don't need to be featured in the movies. So yeah, no need to merge re2/3. If people like the reboot, they'd go see the sequel. If the sequel's good (re2) then they would also check out the next sequel (re3).

Agree.

One other idea, would be to do a whole trilogy in Raccoon City.

There is enough material in Outbreak 1, 2 and Operation Raccoon City to add to adaptions of RE2 and 3.

The first film could introduce the USS, "HUNK", and the Birkins with the release of the T virus as a prologue, then we follow Jill Valentine, plus flashbacks to the Arklay estate, showing the outbreak. The film could follow her and the UBCS survivors until the climatic battle with Nemesis at the church. Maybe even throw in the Wolf Pack from ORC.

The second film would follow the events of RE2, introducing Claire, Leon, and Ada. I would bring back the Wolf Pack if they were introduced to help link the two films. Probably have them to do a heel face turn at the end.

The last film would pick up with Jill and Carlos, where Jill has been recovering at the church. Maybe have them team up with the Wolf Pack similar to ORC and they make their way to the Umbrella Plant, but have to deal with both the Nemesis and Nicholai, while trying to escape before the city is nuked.

.

Eh . Re1/re2/re3 are Long enough for a film. And the additional story/character development should expand what's already in the game and not from getting story elements from Outbreak and operation (chronicles too). Operation Raccoon City is awful too so that's another reason. Though I wouldn't mind small cameos and easter eggs featuring the Outbreak characters.

Couple days late but I just read Jovovich's thoughts
“They’ve announced a reboot? Okay, well good luck with that. I think a lot of people with these franchises kind of put the cart before the horse. There’s a danger to that. They’ve been wanting to reboot Resident Evil for a long time, and listen: I love the Resident Evil world. I think it’s a great property, I would do it if I was a producer. I think what made Resident Evil so special is that the people involved really loved what they’re doing and really were fans of the game.”

“I would suggest that you find people that have that same passion for the property before you talk about reboots. I think if you get into this kind of genre, people are very sensitive to fakes. There’s some real fans in the sci-fi/action/horror world, and they’re not idiots. They can smell when something is done because people love it and when something is done just to monetize an opportunity.”

I'm not a big fan of the RE games but I have no idea what she's talking about. She mustve not watched the movies

Milla is a queen! She should play Alexia Ashford in the reboot!

Milla shouldn't be involved other than maybe making a song with Puscifer for the soundtrack

Milla shouldnt act anymore, let alone be in RE reboot.

After seeing It Comes At Night, Trey Edward Shults not getting a crack at rebooting it feels like madness.
