Horror Resident Evil Reboot

Oh wow she would be some get after Anora. I wonder who she would okay, Jill maybe?
Well, the rumors are that it’s going to be an original story within the world of Resident Evil centered on an original character, but that doesn’t necessarily preclude any characters from the games showing up, so I wouldn’t entirely count that out. Would be cool though if that was the case and they just don’t say who she’s playing as a surprise and they make it a big reveal in the film.

I guess we’ll see.

Yeah I heard about the approach their taking and I'm not a fan at all. They should be sticking closer to the games IMO. But you also don't get an oscar winner to not play an established character. But that's also IMO.

Don’t do it Mikey. After all the previous adaptations, I’m of the believe that there is NO WAY a Resident Evil movie will be good.

Resident Evil is such an easy series to adapt, that it blows my mind how bad it has gone so far. This one has some decent creative, so maybe some hope?

I think it’s one of those cases where they constantly screw it up because they feel like they need to add a bunch of weird elements to it that don’t need to be there. That’s how you get crap like a bad Dua Lipa karaoke scene in a Resident Evil show. They used to do that sort of thing to superhero adaptations too until someone realized that maybe, just maybe, people would rather see a faithful adaptation of the source material. RE absolutely SHOULDN’T be a hard thing to adapt but somehow they manage to **** it up every time. I would like to have hope but I mean, the last adaptation was only 3 years ago and not even the great Lance Reddick could save it.

Bleeding Cool @ CinemaCon Sony day:

“Zach Cregger is on stage for Resident Evil, September 18, 2026”

“It will be built in the spirit of the games one protagonist from point a to point b as they descend deeper and deeper into hell”

I’m big on Cregger rn, I just wish I cared about Resident Evil.

Eh. Maybe he can turn me around.

These studios still don't understand how to make Video Game movies.

The original protagonist worked for Fallout because every game the player makes an original character, there aren't really any major mainstays. RE is not that kind of property.

Yeah, I was all for Cregger tackling this but using a new character as a protagonist in a new situation is exactly what the previous failed adaptations did.

While the filmmaker doesn't specify how (or how much) his take differs from the source material in the new issue of SFX magazine, which features Alien: Earth on the cover and hits newsstands on Wednesday, July 16, he doesn't think it breaks "any major rules."

Cregger, who's best known for helming twisty horror hit Barbarian, explains: "I am a gigantic Resident Evil game fan. I've played them all. I don't know how many times I've just looped [RE4] again and again. I just love it. I'm definitely not trying to be completely obedient to the lore of the games;

"I'm trying to tell a story that just feels authentic to the experience you get when you play the games. I don't think I’m breaking any major rules, but I also recognize that no matter what I do, people are going to come for me online," he candidly continues. "So all I want to do is just make a really good movie and tell a story that's compelling. I know that I'm gonna be happy with the movie, and hopefully other people will, too."

As long as they get the tone and creepiness right and deliver a good horror movie, I don't mind if they take artistic freedoms. You look at previous attempts to make Resident Evil into movies and it's either doing a 180 making it into a farce (the Paul W.S Anderson ones) OR they try and copy paste the games and fail badly at making it work on its own (Welcome to Racoon City).

For me the bar is set at "just make it good" and anything else is a bonus. Of course it would be cool to get Leon, Jill, Chris, Claire, Ada, Wesker or any other iconic RE characters but it's also opening a can of worms since fans will compare and complain from the get go.

The way he talks about the franchise makes me happy because he gets it. Whether it translates to the film or not is left to be seen but I'm hopeful based on his films so far.

He mentioned that feeling of dread of walking down a hallway knowing something terrible is down there and you only have one shotgun shell but you HAVE to go there. If he can capture that in the film I'd be very happy. Feels like ammunition as a resource isn't addressed nearly enough in horror movies and I would be quite happy if that was an element of this RE movie. Have our main character(s) at some point in a safe location (nod to the safe rooms with a typewriter and itembox somewhere in the background) just counting their bullets being like "Yeah we gotta go down into the basement to turn the power on but there's creatures down there".
