Return of the Jedi

I think Catman should stick to comedy.

80s films look like this.

They also look like this:

return of the jedi had a timeless feel too

I didn't feel it. Star Wars and Empire are very timeless to me. ROTJ ends with a teddy bear picnic. There's just nothing timeless about that.

Neither of which resemble ROTJ in the slightest, so how is ROTJ a generic 80s movie?

Compared to Han and Luke getting medals in an elaborate ceremony?

^ why didnt chewbacca get a medal!!!!!!!!
Because he's a walking carpet? Also, I think some guy made up some ridiculous concept about wookies considering it insulting to get rewards or something. I think this was just before he dressed up as a klingon and stuffed his cock into the tail pipe of his car.

When you watch Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back it has a very timeless look and feel. ROTJ is a different story. The movie is such an `80s film. Especially the scenes at Jabba's place. That whole Han rescue scenes have such an `80s feel and look to them.

I think I can understand where you're going with this. Lucas himself deliberately directed the first movie in an old-fashioned style (although obviously also containing 70's style), and Empire was old-fashioned in it's perfectly measured build-up and interaction between Han and Leia.

Whereas Jedi is very much more straight-forward, racing from one action set-piece to the next with comedic intervals. The ratio of action to characterisation is almost unbalanced, and there is so much it almost gets overbearing. It's very similar to The Temple of Doom.

As much as I enjoy Jedi, it is basically one long action scene.

This is largely down to Lucas. Having made Raiders of the Lost Ark, he decided that the all-action, minimal plot route of that movie was the way to go with Return of the Jedi.

That pretty much sums it up, I guess. There's other reasons I think it looks like an `80s movie and isn't timeless like the first two. Those reasons I have already stated.

He has a valid point, I don't know why you are ripping him apart

So what you're saying is... a scene set inside and in the dark, and a scene outside in the daytime are going to look different?

Forget it. You don't get what I'm saying. If you can't see the difference in cinematography between these two scenes

Then there's no point debating you.

Yeah, I'm a 90's child, and Empire Strikes Back feels less 'old' than Return Of The Jedi does.

Because there's no debate to be had. If you post a picture of some snow, and then a picture of some woods and then jump up and down, screaming "Look how different they are!!111 lolz!!1! The bottom one is the 1980s!11!!" without ever explaining why, then I'm going to carry on condescending you.

Incidently, condescend is when you talk down to someone.

wow!

Dude, look at that shot for a second. You're telling me it isn't generic and uninspired?

Lets look at this shot from Empire:

It's creative. It's intense. It's exciting. That's a great shot that sticks with you.

This

is very generic looking.

Vader pitching the Emperor over the railing? If that's not THE scene that doesn't make you get up and cheer you are dead inside.

I've been to a lot of geek-filled theaters in my day and I've heard a lot of fanboy cheering over the years. However, at the end of that first-day showing of ROTJ in 1983 when I and most of my middle-school classmates had ditched school to go to the movie and we saw Vader lunge over and grab the Emperor, we were literally up out of our seats screaming in triumph. Too many moviemakers have tried to undeservingly manufacture similar "fist pumping" moments since then (including George Lucas himself) and now we're just too cynical to respond that way anymore. But man, I'm glad I was there to see it the first time.

Empire is the only one that looks "timeless"
Everything about Star Wars is super-70's.

Just Luke's hair is enough to imbue the whole movie with 70's power.

That moment, on the first day's release of ROTJ, was the White-Hot Supernova Orgasm of the Universe.

All of history and creation was just leading up to that moment.
Now we're just living off of the after-glow.
