The Amazing Spider-Man Rhys Ifans Cast as The Lizard

I'm curious now to see who's cast as Aunt May.

I must confess, i'm quite happy now we're getting a re-boot. If only because i'll never have to sit through another Bruce Campbell cameo, or hear Elfman's horrible Spider-Man theme again, or see Kirsten Dunst play MJ . Now that i think about it, other than SM2, the Raimi movies were quite cheesy.

Kemosabe, that is a massive understatement. Raimi's movies were a full-blown dairy farm.

yeah they were pretty darn cheesy...i hate the argument some make..."spider-man isnt supposed to be serious! its supposed to be a lil cheesy...i mean its a man with spider powers!"
and crap like that

....lol as i post...look what happens
that is a valid response...yet that was also way back in the day...not unless you want the movie back in the 60's added to the film because the first comics were also set in 60's times...so lets go all out ey?!

I TOTALLY agree! Spider-Man has such epic moments in his history. Downgrading all that in an attempt to be "funny" is unacceptable imo. That doesn't mean that the film shouldn't have some funny moments. There's a huge difference between being cheesy and being funny. Iron Man succeeded well in being funny while not being cheesy. Spider-Man was cheesy but not funny.

Look who directed this movie. Are you guys really surprised? The guy made the movie about the Spidey he grew up with. The addition of Venom was the first modern element he included and seemed the most out of place in the trilogy.

Exactly...but his reign is over...so no more cheesy Spider-man (hopefully) thank god.

Well, you don't want a humorless Spidey on the flip side either. I think in Raimi's case he pulled a vice versa. Spidey should have been the funny, cheesy one while everyone else around him was humorless.

Which is why many people are justified in stating that Raimi just didn't get spider-man.

As I've stated numerous times, the 60s was a cheesy era and the spidey comics of that era were reflective of the times, hence why spider-man is such a timeless character and can fit in perfectly in any era, which is why he's garnered the success he has since '62. That being said, a better effort should have been made to make the movies feel more contemporary similar in the way that USM was a contemporary take on the original comics. Some of the crap that Raimi had Maguire saying as Peter was just woeful. Maybe if Raimi's movies were period pieces of the early 60s era then maybe Raimi could have been the ultimate comicbook movie master but that clearly wasn't the case.

It's already clear that Webb has exposed himself to a much wider bracket of the spidey source material than Raimi has so that alone gives me additional hope that we'll get something more acceptably realistic.

I couldn't have said it better myself, +1!

As I've stated in another thread, the way some people defend Raimi to death and putting this reboot down is plain silly!

Let's hope so.

Hmmmm

mixed feelings about this

While I wanted the lizard I seriously doubt his potential as an engaging solo villain. He's essentially going to become a mindless monster (the alternative- that he speaks and wants to take over the world with an army of super lizards is.... ******ed).

Rhys ifans is an odd choice. Ive only seen him in notting hill, which he was the best thing in it (which isn't a compliment. the film is diabolical), so I'm not really fit to judge whether he is a suitable choice.

I don't think the lizard should speak. But I do think it might be cool if he builds something with the potential to turn all of New york into lizard creatures.

The lizard should definitely not speak, would sort of make it border on comical in my opinion
maybe (and this may sound ridiculous, i'm quite tired) instead of him turning normal people into lizards he produces the threat of having offspring or his shed skin regenerates into spawn or something which would in turn would make New York be overrun with lizards so it adds a sort of battle on a city scale for spider-man

I'm kinda surprised if he actually plays the lizard. You would think that it would be easier on the budget to go with say Electro or someone less Cgi. But then maybe he might be a prosthetic beast with some cgi enhancements.

If the Lizard speaks, that'll be bad. He should be a beast! With no control!

They should go for a Ghostbusters vibe with Lizard - the tone of the film was light and playful, but those demon dogs (if you're a little kid at least) were genuinely scary.

Sssshould he reallly ssspeak. hmmmmm?

The tone of the movie should not be playful and light whenever THE LIZARD is present. Whenever the character is on screen it should be serious, threatening, gritty and shot at night. This is one of those moments where dark and gritty actually fits into Spider-Man's world, use it. Not so much Spider-Man himself, but everything else that surrounds The Lizard. I want it handled on the level of Ridley Scott's ALIEN and John McTiernan's PREDATOR. A serious and deadly killing machine/creature. New Yorkers should be warned to stay the hell indoors at night. Give the movie its dramatic flair that it needs to pull The Lizard off.

Anything that goes down in that sewer should come up dead. Not hurt, not wounded, DEAD! Connors should want to stay as far away from his family as possible. I'd give Curt Connors the theme: How far will a man go to protect his family from himself.

I want heat, we had three children movies full of cheese and juvenile antics, it's time for Spider-Man to finally grow the hell up as a property. Give us something more than product placements and selling plush toys to tots.

Hmm, I guess choosing between saving children or a woman you love or annhiliating half the city with the sun is childish antics. I mean, I guess a child would be capable behind such things. There must be some psychotic children in the world. This is an issue.

Predator and Alien is a little too intense for this. There's a different intensity between R and PG-13. I mean I want Lizard to be fierce and frightening, but not **** your pants will make children cry scary. That's asking for too much. I'm not saying the Lizard should make children and their parents sing songs in the car, but there's a level of intensity that it must strike. I think stuff like in Night of the Lizard but a little tuned up would be adequate for the Lizard.

Lizard should ssspeak early into hisss transssformation. But the most beastly he becomes, the less he talks. In the final battle, he should be a complete beast (in both ways) :oldrazz:

Be faithful to the comics, but don't make The Lizard speak? Hmmm.

Yeah, but if it's all done in a cartoonish and cheesy kind of way (which it was) it holds no weight. From the New York Defenders who keeps coming to Spider-Man's aide against his two A-List villains, both Green Goblin and Doc Ock. I mean, shouldn't the New Yorkers in Spider-Man join the damn AVENGERS or something.

**** your pants scary is what THE LIZARD should be. Intensity can be handled greatly in PG-13 films, take Lord of the Rings, The Dark Knight or even Jurassic Park. I'm tired of the BS excuses people give when it comes to Spider-Man not having dramatic, serious and intense moments. It's one of the reasons why we're getting a reboot, because the director couldn't control his cheese, when there should have been serious, intense and dark moments in Spider-Man 3--we got Kraft Singles every single time.

If we do nothing, let's learn from SM3's mistakes.
