Sounds like the Pitch Black formula and they are ditching the entire CHRONICLES story.

I'm sure they won't completely disregard the story of Chronicles. I couldn't care less if they did. He might have a line in passing about being marooned by the Necromongers or something. But I do like the route they are taking. Creatures and mercs.

Yeah it does sound cool. With the description involving vehicles and creatures I find it pretty unlikely it'll be released in the fall, like Vin Diesel thinks. Would that be enough time for post, if they started in March like he said?

I wanted him to travel to the Underverse. :( I'd also like to see him on a more jungle-like planet. No more deserts or uninhabitable planets.

I wonder how Riddick was able to get out of that situation. But whatever. Got to get back what brought you to the dance I suppose.

if this movie bombs it will be the third Riddick movie.

so we get a movie but they dont make money. a win situation for me. :hehe:

I'm just wondering if it will have the budget to achieve the vision.

Sounds good, but what happened to him being the leader of the Necromonger army? Who marooned him on the planet, Vaako?

I think that might be the route they take. He's "left for dead" according to the article, so maybe Vaako took over after thinking he killed Riddick and they follow him off planet as well. "You keep what you kill". But I think it was Vin Diesel that hinted that the Egypt scenes might also double for Furya. This was pretty recent so maybe the mythology isn't completely ignored.

^I hope so, I like the thread they set up at the end of COR, Riddick being the leader of an unstoppable army had so much potential, especially for someone who is a mass murderer. I just hope it isnt completely ignored, as I felt it was all leading up to a big showdown between Riddick and Vaako.

I really enjoyed the last one...but I gotta say, I'm liking this idea about the bounty hunters on jet cycles hunting him down as he's stranded on an alien world.

I know im one of the few who liked Chronicles of Riddick, but I hope they don't ditch that whole storyline. I mean what does that say to the fans of that storyline as few as there might be. Twohy wanted to make that story so if he ditches it what does that say about his choices? If he ditches it he is openly admitting he screwed up and didn't know how to tell the story or handle a budget. Which is spitting in the face of the few fans it has.

i think we can all agree that at the end of the day Riddick is not a leader and he can nto live with such a big group of people.

they should start from there and go on.

maybe it will be revealed that there was no underverse and that the Lord Marshalls were only speaking about death/afterlife and not an actual place. or maybe riddick learns how to reverse the necromonger trance and frees many of the innocents and starts a revolt in space on each ship and manages to escape. And then gets stranded on this new planet.

I think Riddick works if

a.) he stays kinda low key. Dont' make him a leader of nothing. Keep him in the shadows. He works as a character you cannot trust but then he'll surprise you by doing something noble. Don't let him talk too much. Let his action speak for itself.

b.) If he surrounded by interesting characters. Han Solo is interesting, but he's even more enduring thanks to Luke, Chewbacca, Leia, and Lando.

Doc Ock already answered your question, but I also want to throw in the mention of the 35 minute animated video The Chronicles o Riddick: Dark Fury. It's a really nice movie that fits in well with the rest of the series. You can find all movies in a "trilogy" pack for about $10 American. Pitch Black itself is worth that much IMO, so it's a really good deal.

thanks for the tip

I find it hliarious that Riddick was supposed todie in Pitch Black and the chick was going to star in a possible sequel or franchise! She was useless! (but hot)

^Thats what test screenings are for I suppose! Thought Radha Mitchell was great in the role though.

I love how she always had to bend over all the time. She must have spent only 10% of the movie standing up straight!

Best part of Radha Mitchell is her attractiveness and when Riddick teases her at the end.

I agree with these points. I think if they really want to make Riddick into a successful franchise they should give him a strong cast to work with. I would also really have each film revolve around a really interesting concept like Pitch Black did instead of having the character of Riddick himself carry the film.

Early production art has been released of Riddick fighting one of those muddemons that was announced a couple months ago.Which makes me wonderwhen this will start filming now the Fast and Furious and XXX sequels are also knee deep in preproduction.

MattTwentySix from the imdb.com forums claims to have read a draft of the Riddick script. Not wanting to be spoiled too much (even if it's validity iffy:o) i only read the first couple details and it seems that among other things that there's a role in it for Karl Urban's character Vaako.
Reading the script (no, ain't givin' it out). But a couple things...

Contrary to reports I've heard, it IS a sequel to Chronicles of Riddick. [BLACKOUT]Riddick begins as Lord Marshal.

He doesn't stay that way long.

Vaako's back. Not for long.

Riddick orders to go to Furya, but a Necro Commander puts them down on another planet and betrays Riddick. Riddick survives but is stranded on the planet[/BLACKOUT].
