The Dark Knight Rises Riddle Me This: The Riddler Characterization Thread

yep, thats what I said :woot:. I'm thinking he should trap him in a hole and fill it with water everytime he fails to give the correct answer to a riddle. Then when Reese is dead, send his body down the river with a riddle taped inside of his mouth for Gordon to find.

This would make a good opening scene. Especially if the Riddler's face was never seen in the sequence.

The Riddler makes the most sense for the third film's main villain. Of all the rogues, he fits the easiest into the reality of the Nolan universe and would translate best into a continuing story from TDK. If they really want to come anywhere close to the success of TDK, the Riddler is the way to go.

^ I like it and you are now on Captain Clowns IT list. You will receive a gift basket and more

Just curious I mean after a sick person like the Joker Riddler is kind of tame. He doesn't murder just for fun or does things that are extremely bad that often. I mean I know Nolan could change this but still.
Riddler doesnt see like good choice in my opinion

Riddler doesn't murder for fun this is true but he murders and does things for attention and for other reasons

Riddler is the greatest mind in gotham right next to batman so here are two people one solving crimes and never wants to be known
while the other causes crime and begs for attention and wants to know everything..

So the riddler would be what ever is possible to find out the grestest riddle of all

"who is the batman"

if Riddler does the whole "who Is batman" thing isn't that very similar to what Joker was partially doing in The Dark Knight

No cause all Joker wanted was Batman to tak eoff the mask and stop being Batman so he can prove anyone can be bought and corupted
While the riddler wants to know just for the Simple fact to know that he Can

riddler is much like the joker in that aspect

Riddler wants to know batman is and will never tell anyone just because them that infomation would become useless.

like the joker would never tell anyone who Batman is because then the joke is dead and no longer funny

I think the main thing that you would need from a villain is an "extremist". How they characterize him I'd be totally open for something new with the riddler, also I'd be okay with something thats already be done. I really picture them talking to dini or whoever from batman : tas and getting a hold of some of there unused stories, and taking ideas from there.

I can see the riddler as like a schizophrenic look, much like the Nolan joker but in green shirt and pants of course.

Doing crimes like bombings, murders, etc watching the city
Batman is looking for clues after the crime
but then you see the riddler looking for clue during the crime

doing the Process fo Elimination as to who is he.

What would Riddler's big plan to bring Gotham to its knees though? I'm mean Ra's was poisoning them, Joker was blowing them up, what would Riddler's be? Controlling them? And if it is it's too much like Forever.

Who says anything about bringing Gotham to its knees?

Two-face didn't, Scarecrow didn't.

I would think Riddler would have to find secrets, about people and expose them. You could bring in Gordons Alternate Love-life (Batman: Y1), something on the mayor, ...dent? you could really attack some of the big names in the city, and create a city that is tearing itself apart, it'd be a nice change since it'd reinforce the "people can get better" that batman is trying to influence.

He could also tell that kind of information in such a cocky manner, oh man, just picturing someone like David Hyde Pierce, gives me goosebumps, knowing as soon as he's by himself he'd be a coward.

If Nolan doesn't use the Riddler in the next movie, its really going to be a thread killer.

Or Riddler finds out what really happend with Dent and Batman

Best way to bring a town to it's knees is make them go against themsevles

ah, a Civil War with Gotham.

Hmm. I actually like that idea somewhat.
Kinda like Ra's idea though.

yeah but he wanted the town to be destoryed by fear
Riddler doesn't really want it that bad
He would want it be like everyone is scared and no one would want to learn anything because of what will happen
and Riddler knows it all

if he is a fed investigating batman maybe he could threaten destroying the gcpd and in particular Gordon. Maybe he could grow suspicious of Gordon and put him in some life threatening situation to lure Batman out.

I like the idea minus the fed

I like the idea minus the fed

See, I think the Fed route is the best idea for the Riddler on these boards. It's a nice little twist on the super villain, have him be on the inside with the good guys, but the good guys (cops) are going to be hunting the hero(Batman). But obviously Gordon could be tipping Batman off about whats happening, the Agent Nashton/Nygma could get suspicious and as he gets more and more obsessed with catching Batman he could become unstable and start putting peoples lives at risk. Secretely taking on the persona of "The Riddler" and setting up traps and situations involving innocents, fellow cops and maybe even Gordon himself eventually, all with the purpose of luring Batman out.

Hmm. I like that alot actually.

I'd like to see something like the Riddler is trying desperately hard the entire movie to figure out Batman's identity, then in the end someone who he would see as sub par...Maybe Catwoman or possibly even Bullock figures it out and he can't stand it and goes after them, causing an unlikely temporary alliance between Batman and Catwoman or Bullock.

I had a Chance to sleep on it and I do Agree with your story idea
I SAY we all write a script and post it on here lol

I know I'm gonna get lynched for this... but it's still a fun thought to entertain...

In my opinion, Jim Carrey proved in The Number 23 that he is capable of playing darker roles. I think it would be interesting to see him play a Nolan-style Riddler, as opposed the Schumacher-campy-cartoon style.

Granted, it'll never happen... just fun to think about.
