Sci-Fi Ridley Scott Developing New Alien Film

I get Ridley works the way he does because he just likes it. But it would probably dop his movies good for him to devote himself to a project and not just film something obviously half-arsed.

Time for the xenomorphs to take over planet Earth, Terminator-style.

I'm enjoying Alien Earth especially with the implications of the last episode but I have no faith in this as a film property anymore. The last legitimately good Alien movie was made in 1986. Let that sink in.

Ehhhhh… I would say it definitely peaked at that point, but Prometheus and Romulus haven’t been without merit. ****, even 3 gave us some good early Fincher.

But I do wonder how much gas is left in the tank beyond the TV series and the possibility of Dan Trachtenberg working up to an Alien vs. Predator that (ideally) washes away the aftertaste of those other two pieces of ****.

I mean. Even the tv show is getting mixed audience response no different than Prometheus. It probably won’t last 5 seasons as planned, but Disney won’t stop milking it as much as they can.

Romulus is completely without merit in my opinion. Its like they took every Alien film and crammed them into an AI and had it **** out a script then hired a real director to cover it up. Fan film levels of terrible

With Prometheus, the idea of trying to take franchise back to its Lovecraftian roots by essentially doing At the Mountains of Madness in space isn't the worst idea, but they failed miserably with idiotic characters and forcing religious nonsense into it. It irks me that in a universe with FTL travel, the Abrahamic religions still exist but I'll admit thats a me thing and a personal bias because of my upbringing.

I liked the Assembly Cut of Alien 3 and when I was younger but it honestly gets worse every time I watch it. Even from a visual standpoint, everything looks worse than its predecessor. Fincher's experience was so bad on Alien 3, he almost quit the business. That's about as damning as it gets. The film we got was not worth a moment of that man's misery.

If there's anyone I have faith in to do something interesting with it, it's Dan Trachtenberg, but I also thought Fede Alvarez would knock it out of the park and I ****ing hated that movie. Won't be getting my hopes up anytime soon.

I am not a fan of Prometheus nor Covenant, but I do admit I would be morbidly curious to see that storyline concluded. Just not in lieu of the other Alien stuff were currently getting. Want to make it your own side thing that gets made and effects nothing else, be my guest Ridley

I do wonder how many people who hate Romulus for the callbacks were all in for Blomkamp's new version of 3.

The best thing about Earth and Romulus is they have some really good actors doing some decent fun stuff in Spaeny, Jonsson, Chandler, Lawther, and Raylan. The asethetic in Romulus is also strong.

But the story/ideas of Prometheus and Covenant were far stronger imo.

Earth decided it wanted to jettison a lot of lore and to not do much so far. Disappointing.

Romulus isn't full of callbacks. It's one big callback. But with worse characters and direction. It's more Jurassic World then The Force Awakens.

I need to watch episode 4 still, but thus far I like Earth overall. Romulus, I liked except for Ian Holm and the abysmal ending that very much soured the movie for me. I think the biggest thing is Romulus didn't strive for as much as Prometheus or Covenant, but Prometheus and Covenant botched what they wanted to be so bad, I have to give the edge to Romulus. Outside of David, those are horribly executed movies

At this point. Ridley is what like....85? So if this 3rd prequel ever happens, I am thinking it's another director maybe based on a loose outline from whatever this was/is supposed to be.

Just looked it up, he’ll be 88 in November.

I would have been interested in seeing Blomkamp's movie mostly cause we would ideally gotten a better resolution for Hicks and Newt. Alien 3 did them dirty

The first 3 Alien films form a great trilogy for me. Sure you can debate the fact Alien 3 doesn't have a definitive cut (I need to watch that Legacy Cut that came out, heard good things) but for me Alien 3 still provides a satisfying conclusion to it all.

Beyond those 3 films it's a rollercoaster of enjoyment and quality.

I love Alien 3 too, I'll dare to say that it's my personal favorite even. I just dig the medieval monks fighting a dragon ambiance.
