Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Caesar is smart...and apparently smarter than most humans, so he figures out a way to take us out in one fell swoop, and there are only a handful of ways to do that.

Hmm I don't know, seems like they are partially re-writing the history. Keeping on my guard, I don't want to get too excited for this and have it be a total let down.

I am trying to watch the trailer in HD on yahoo since apple trailers doesn't have it and their HD versions are down!

The new trailer that's on deadline?

:lmao: :lmao:

Oh, this is going to bomb. I gotta' go wipe the tears from my eyes now.

It's a horrible silly looking flick and it is most likely it's going to bomb hard.

Apes would get shot down quicker than you could say "It's on like donkey kong".

Semi-automatics, explosives, and other military tech would demolish this "uprising" in less than a week, if that.

If they would have been patient and taken the approach the novel goes into explaining the apes eventual dominion then I would have bought it.

Here's the reasoning if anyone cares to read it, I would have much rather seen this:

Mankind started using the apes for medical experimentation, ultimately in great masses as part of an all-out effort to cure cancer. They then had these huge numbers of apes and found that they were easily trained to do mundane household tasks. The apes were brought into people's homes to work as domestic servants. This situation went on for several centuries and, at the same time, mankind was getting lazier and lazier. People had apes to do everything for them, while the apes were getting smarter and more discontent with their situation. Eventually, the apes learn to talk and finally they simply take over. Mankind by this time had not only become physically lazy but mentally as well. When the apes take over, humans can put up no resistance.

Here's the reasoning if anyone cares to read it, I would have much rather seen this:
That seems a bit anticlimactic. Mankind is too lazy? At least have the apes learn to use weapons like guns, instead of just:

Apes: Yeah, we've had enough of your ****. We'll take over from here.

Pinto's sterotypical character is already annoying. I'm not overly interested in the takeover either.

But that stuff with Caesar looks utterly compelling. I thought he was adorable and already felt sorry for him and was even slightly creeped out. The whole Caesar dynamic and his relationship with Will looks fantastic, I'm so there.

I can't get excited for this at all, because I don't give a dirty ape damn about how they took over. Plus, doesn't this ignore the biggest point of the original, how war is what wiped out man and civilization? Now we've just got super monkeys.

Yeah, even my nine year old nephew saw the trailer yesterday before we watched X-Men and when the ROTPOTA was over he turned to me and said. "I don't see the big deal, they're just monkeys. The army has guns and can just take them out." My reply, "The boy has a point."

I'm keeping an open mind about this movie. There are plenty of non-nuclear ways the apes can take over humanity.

-Hostages, especially when they're Americans (as I assume that's where the movie is set) will limit, delay or prevent the use of a massive armed response
-Apes could engineer a plague that only affects homo sapiens (incidentally, the old POTA canon was kicked off by a disease that killed all cats and dogs on earth)
-Apes could infect our food supply (which is perilously vulnerable, and is the most likely armageddon scenario in real life). The destruction of our mass-produced food industry hands the advantage over to the smaller, focussed population that knows how to forage for and live on roots and leaves.

yeah, i dont know how thats gonna work in film, well, unless the apes learn how to use guns otherwise im pretty sure we could take down a couple of apes easily......

If you're worried about how we don't take out the apes, read some damn spoilers. It makes a lot of sense, and gives the impression that all the apes don't make it out scott free.

It happens over centuries.

It wouldn't really be boring because we'd see apes progressively integrate themselves into the more important roles we used to have including that of our armed forces, mundane jobs, medical field, etc. It would actually connect with that really good film that Schaffner directed back in 68'. You know the one that still remains incredibly good to this day.

Plus I'm sure there would be a small amount of humans who would still fight back but their numbers would be far to small to even make a dent.

It'd be a Wall-E type scenario only with apes instead of computers and they'd treat us far worse due to their previous "indentured servitude".

I would most certainly like to see that.

That's why I said I am remaining skeptical, but not getting my hopes up.

Due to the fact that it happens over centuries, that sounds more suitable for a montage in a film, rather than just a singular plot for a film.

Seeing as its the 30th anniversary of the aids outbreak and many have speculated aids originated in apes it would be a bit ballsy on the filmmakers if they incorporated an aids like diseases into the plot. Possibly spreading from apes to humans that results in a great loss of human life, but the apes themselves would be immune of course.

Might be kind of depressing for a summer popcorn flick though.

Would be in line with the tradition of Ape movie endings though. They've all been pretty depressing. Beneath even blew up the world killing everybody and everything!

I think this looks warped and fun. More of the same "Mother Nature will bite right back" shtick sci-fi, but the self-seriousness is really damn funny. Can't wait.

Self-seriousness for this film is a bad/funny thing??,The franchise was never meant to be a comedy!,Sure it always had humor(mostly dark humor)But it was mostly always serious&dramatic films.....Except Escape and that one was overall my least-favorite!!(as I know it is for others too)

I sure hope this movie ends with a montage of a few centuries going by,But I bet they will have a montage of just a few years so they can save stuff for a sequel with that movie taking place only 20-50 years!!

People were laughing when the trailer was showing during X-men when I saw it.

That's interesting. In my theater, you could hear a buzz of interest in the audience.
I remember seeing the trailer previously on-line and feeling the beginnings of an eye-roll, but yesterday, it looked intense. Even my girlfriend, with no interest in PotA, said it looked good.
