Homecoming Robert Downey Jr IS Tony Stark / Iron Man

I think the goodwill Marvel has accumulated over the years has made people more open to change. Nothing wrong with that. But Spider-Man is a pretty big character. I'm a little surprised there hasn't been a little more backlash.

Tony is supposed to date Aunt May in this movie. How would you feel if Tony were to marry Aunt May and make Peter his heir? Then at the end of Avengers 4 Tony dies and leaves his company to Peter. Peter then becomes financier to the Avengers in Avengers 5. What would you think of that?

i agree. Not to mention that peter is often portrayed as a bit "bumbling", so it makes sense that he wouldn't feel just right yet with making his own gear. I think tony being involved makes sense, even if it does just feel like an excuse for the character to be in the film.

literally only in post-one more day comics!

No. No. No. Peter isn't a bungler or bumbling. Not before '07 anyways.

God, i hate that narrative so much.

True, but he's never portrayed as a 100% perfect genius either. I actually don't mind the less bumbling Peter Parker that much, personally, but I can understand why, especially as a comic fan (which I am), why someone wouldn't be a big fan of that version of the character.

The MCU version of the character, really strikes the right balance though.

For me, Peter is great at one thing and that's being smart -- really smart. That's one of the issues I have with TASM series because we know he's smart but he was either looking up stuff for something (the battery) or being bested by Gwen, which I didn't mind too much (given the inspiration from SSM) but still.

The rest? He's just always trying, which is what I enjoyed about TASM series and SSM.

He's always trying to be a good hero. Always trying to save everyone. Always trying to live a normal life or even strike a balance.

He's not perfect. He's a coward sometimes. He's brave sometimes. There's a reason why everyone refers to him as an every man because that's just who he is. It's not the intelligence we relate to but every day problems that he faces as Peter and as Spider-Man. We'd feel freedom as he does under a mask. We'd feel awkward or angsty just being 'us' if that 'us' had a double life nobody knew.

I'm rambling at this point but the key thing I'm looking for with this new series is balance and what I didn't get from Civil War seems to be fixed for Homecoming. Can't wait.

One of the things I think the current film series needs to focus on is making Peter / Spider-Man feel like a genuinely good guy. Someone who doesn't just run away in battle, or desert his enemy (Among other faults, TSM2 really screwed-up by just having Spider-Man leave Electro to basically die). He needs to act a real hero basically, which is the kind of Spidey I'd really like to see.

I love you, bro. :ilv:

We don't know how much Tony will actually be in the movie right now. I mean all of the SS stuff made a big deal about the Joker, and yet he's barely in the actual film.

For all we know, what wee see in this trailer might be a big chunk of Tony's scenes in the movie, and some of the others might be other stuff (him with his company, him with Aunt May, etc).

RDJ brings in 18$ for every 1$ he's paid. Sony requested him for a reason. He puts more butts in the seat than Spider-Man point blank period

Hm ... Wonder if he really has a new suit, or it's just for the toys

So his armour is more grey/ silver than gold this time round?

I prefer Iron Man with 2 colours, not 3.

I hate how he has had grey in his armour in every(not sure) movie after Iron Man 2. It was perfect in Iron Man 1.

Yeah, I think the Iron Man 1 armour was the best. More simple and classic in design.

What an ugly armor. And I agree, the IM/IM2 armors were the best.

It's clearly based off the Ultimate Iron Man armor. Guess it'd have to eventually pop up in one of these movies.

It looks better than the one from the comics, so, there's that.

Did someone order an Ultimate redux of his current suit?

In 3 years time I want to see a movie version of this armour:

That looks a little bit like the Heartbreaker armor from IM3.

As long as we get black suit Spidey, I don't care what IM's wearing. lol

They should do the Iron Man 2020 storyline in 5 years time in 2022. Arno Stark can still come from the future from 2020 only to find out that he's actually 2 years too late and he's now from the past, and his armour is extremely outdated.

One storyline I would have loved to see for Iron Man is the Demon In A Bottle (imagine in the wake of Age of Ultron & Civil War, guilt over the deaths caused by Ultron, breaking up with Pepper and grief over the Avengers splitting would have led him to find solace in booze. Would also be one way to tie in Cap Marvel seeing as they bonded over their alcoholism in the 616).

But of course, that'd never actually happen in the MCU

They already sort of tried Demon in a Bottle for Iron Man 2, and it was a half-hearted attempt.

He wasn't really an alcoholic either, but just using it to numb the fact that the paladium was killing him. If he had been prone to alcoholism, we would've surely seen it in Iron Man 3 when he was having PTSD, or in Civil War in the wake of Ultron.

You can't just adapt Demon in a Bottle without the other parts of the storyline though, otherwise it's just a general alcoholism story and not specifically the story from Iron Man 120-128. That concerned Justin Hammer, and they've already used him. It also featured Whiplash (also used), Blizzard and Melter.

They've also already used Obadiah Stane, who is associated with Tony's 2nd bout of alcoholism from about #168 to #200, culminating in the final confrontation between Iron Man in the Silver Centurion armour and Iron Monger. But they've had that in IM#1.

I don't think they want to make the MCU version of Tony an alcoholic. He's their golden goose and poster boy.
