Homecoming Robert Downey Jr IS Tony Stark / Iron Man

Don't get me wrong have no problem with tony being in the film. Wouldn't mind peter doing an internship at stark industries either. Just not too keen on tony and aunt may hooking up.

I don't want Spider-Man and Iron Man to fight. Peter and Tony can verbally fight, but them coming to blows would be cliche and just rehashing Civil War.

Wasn't there rumors a while back that Spidey and Iron Man would fight to see if he's a good fit for the Avengers or something?

I could see them getting into a fight over Aunt May. Maybe Peter is still grieving Uncle Ben and takes it out on Tony, saying that he can't replace him. Tony allows himself to be a punching bag because he remembers that the fight with Cap in CW was therapeutic.

I think the hero v hero thing has been done enough for a while. I don't see rdj's role in spiderman being all that big tbh.

I'm not sure what about Spider-Man makes him so special and necessary to stay isolated from the larger Marvel universe compared to other characters. Spidey has always been the heart of the world and interacts with just about every notable character in it. We've already had five movies where he existed in a vacuum; I say mix it up a little bit and bring in the MCU's main man to really, well, bring him home.

It seems like there's a conflict here with fans of Spider-Man the character vs. fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As a big fan of both, this is my most hyped movie of Phase 3 outside of IW. Bring it on.

If that's true, that sounds more like a sparring match, which I would be fine with.

He shouldn't stay isolated from everyone else. If he did, we'd just have another Sony movie. Spidey was the star of the Marvel Team Up comic series. His adventures in the MCU could easily be like that. He fits well with everyone.

As good as Spidey was with the Avengers, he was really there to add comedy and eye candy. I don't think Spidey should be tangling with the big boys just yet. Despite being ridiculously strong, he's just a kid. I hope he is a VERY minor player in IW, just like Civil War.

You may need Stark for that reason, to bring Spidey back to the Avengers, but honestly, I don't know why Stark would even be announced this early. He should have a few minutes of screen time tops, for marketing purposes. That's what I imagined initially, until they went back to the Pepper issue and had Tony flirting with May.

So Stark could simply be comic relief. More likely, Oscorp is going to be involved. We know it's not going to be a heist movie, otherwise Lang would be the man for the job. But I'd imagine it's something to do with Stark versus Norman.

Tony should just give Parker the mission, maybe have a date night with May in the middle of the story for comic relief, and just be gone. It just seems the role will be a gimmick, but that's exactly what it should be in a Spidey solo film. I would be opposed to a mentor/training program where Stark is eating up screen time.

Sony isn't paying RDJ 50 million to stand around in a suit and tie, quipping and flirting with Aunt May. He's going to suit up for at least one action scene. Anything less is frankly unrealistic.

Has that figure been confirmed? I honestly thought this would not be a huge commitment for RDJ. Obviously his other films in between Stark (which I've enjoyed) haven't been hits, but I thought he would take some kind of break. If he's getting full salary, he's definitely going full blown mentor/step-uncle and I would be pretty upset. I would hardly consider this a Spidey film if RDJ is getting second or third billing.

But it would still be a Spider-Man film if RDJ gets 2nd or 3rd billing. If Tony is in this film a ton then it might be one of the films I'm most interested in. He's gonna add so much because his performance in CW was amazing. Tony appearing makes sense with the way CW ended too.

If we saw the Iron Spider :hmr:

I would hope we not see the Iron Spider to be honest, but that is just some of my silly personal opinion.

I'd love it if Stark is actually keeping tabs on Peter because he is feeling kinda like a father figure due to repressed issues with Howard Stark and he doesn't want Petr to turn out spoiled, arrogant and incapable to be at peace like he is. Maybe Peter's fighting crime and about to get hit from behind but Iron Man comes in and saves him.

This could be a bit through the film with Pete eventually telling Stark to let him handle his own problems and maybe even yelling at him for thinking he's Uncle Ben. Due to his own repressed issues. Then Stark decides to let Peter handle whomever the villain is by himself admitting his insecurities and how he see's Peter. Thus Peter is allowed to defeat the main villain by himself.

Now if you'd rather Stark not hijack Spideys film we could have Stark watching through a camera he installed in Petes suit and contact Peter through a headpiece several times mid battle telling Peter what to do. But then Peter gets tired of it and rewires the mask(showing his genius) taking out any secrets Stark may have hidden. Tony now with no eyes, comes mid battle to help Peter and see how he's doing. To which Peter is officially pissed that Stark went so far as to actually suit up to check on him. That the whole thing I said above ensues, that way Spidey has maximum screentime, RDJ gets his lines in and his obligatory suit up scene.

And we get an interesting character arc for the both of them. It would be nice if Stark was even trying to give Peter advice on girls for the "Homecoming" dance and in the end Peter makes his own decision on that.

It would give the movie the lesson, Advice is a good thing, too much is a bad thing. Sometimes people gotta make their owns mistakes to learn from them.

I am in favor of Tony chaperoning Peter's high school dance.

The Iron-Spider suit... good way to sell those toys/merchandise, if included.

RDJ is going to get top billing above Tom Holland. :o

Iron Spider would be good for IW. I think it would be excessive here.

Maybe because Cap and all those other heroes went "rouge," Tony is looking for "New" Avengers to be official peace keepers. Maybe he sees Pete as a candidate. Pete would obviously be flattered, but as Feige said, this movie is Pete trying to find his way in the world. He would probably decide, like Cap he needs to help as he sees fit. Remember, do nothing, and it's your fault. So he opts to patrol his own "friendly neighborhood."

I hope part of the reason for RDJ being in the film is to set up Norman as a rival of Tony.

Honestly this is seemingly a bad idea. I don't want Tony "Alfred" here, because Stark is getting up there in age. Take a vacation already. I don't see how you can make Stark a focal point in the first film and not continually fall back to that. If RDJ keeps getting paid 50 million I'm sure he'd still be willing to do it, but this is excessive milking of a popular character. I think Sony is having more say than we feel. Joining the Avengers, even to set up Spidey's role in Infinity War, is a bad move. I feel Spidey's role should be more of a guest appearance type of deal.

I think Stark should try to give Peter the Iron Spider here but Peter's like "No I don't need your fancy rich boy gadgets!"

Then come Infinity Wars Stark walks up to Peter like "Listen, I know you're your own hero and I'm cool with that. But right now, this is something you can't handle with just those webshooters. Now you actually do need my gadgets."

And as much as Peter hates to admit it, Stark is right. Because he can't take on Thanos like this.
