Horror Robert Eggers Nosferatu

I didn't want to say it, but....^^^.

As a 23 (then-22) year-old who couldn't help but watch Bram Stoker's Dracula with modern eyes this past summer the night of that first Nosferatu teaser.....I was surprised by how much I wasn't vibing with it.

Oldman was admittedly fantastic so I moderately disagree there, but Hopkins was way too much from what I remember.
The biggest thing that struck me was just how.....needlessly hammy it felt? I practically rolled my eyes when they showed the painting of Dracula semi-transparently floating around, superimposed over the Demeter with the "spooky" music playing, and the artificial strobe light blue lightning, the forced fans blowing everything around during that Were-Bat scene.............THIS is what people kept gassing up in favor of slandering a Nosferatu remake from Eggers???

And to say nothing of how horrid Keanu was. The whole entire movie should've stuck with the haunting imagery of the first 5-10 minutes. I feel like Isabelle Adjani in Possession whenever I see people aggressively gas this thing up lmao, I realize it's before my time but.....come on.

It really is a love it or hate it movie. I love it, though I can understand why someone wouldn't. Also, I think even people who love the movie recognize how bad Keanu is, but he's bad in pretty much everything, it really comes down to how much you like whatever movie he's in.

Still, the imagery is fantastic

What a wonderful and negative thing to say. Not sure what you mean when it pays the bills. So, it means something to someone. Otherwise, thousands of people wouldn't have books or films or music. Not sure what you're illustrating with that statement.

There's no real barrier to entry anymore. Literally anyone can get anything published for next to nothing nowadays. Its not really a statement of credibility.

Saw this in Dolby last night and damn, this was super intense and at times truly horrifying. I dug it, I think it accomplished exactly what it set out to do and how 'enjoyable' that is will definitely vary person to person.

My wife did not care for it at ALL, was squirming in her seat at times and kept giving me side eye throughout for making her sit through it, lol. I

I'm definitely due for a Bram Stoker's Dracula now though.

You dont have to knock down writers in general and marginalize their work, thats Not needed and looks Bad on your Part.
But He also doesnt have to be arrogant about his accomplishments as if it gives his opinion more Weight than that of others.

I'm just stating facts. Claiming to be published doesn't hold any weight anymore and I don't really care if it makes me look bad.

It doesn't make Joe look bad at all. Enck relying on his "published status" to legitimize his opinion of this film is a classical "appeal to authority" fallacy. It is very true that there is minimal barrier to entry anymore in terms of publishing writings or recording music. Anyone can self-publish on Amazon, Kindle, etc. just like anyone can record music with Apple's GarageBand and upload it to Spotify.

That being said, this issue has now been discussed fully and is becoming a distraction from the discussion of the film's merits. Time to move on. No more appeal to authority fallacious arguments to bolster people's opinions or responses pointing out the fallacy. Just discuss the merits of the film please.

Just got back from my 2nd viewing of the film. I only have one complaint/question:

Why are there so many windows with sunshine beaming into Count Orlok's resting place at the castle? Seems like he would want his coffin to be in a place with zero sunlight.

Doesn’t sound like Eggers was compromised at all with his cut so I assume this Extended Cut is just that. He’s not calling it a Director’s Cut. Cool for a curiosity but I’m happy with the length we have now.
