The Winter Soldier Robert Redford offically joins Cap:TWS

I'm incredibly saddened that someone would claim to be a movie buff and not know Redford. Going to see everything does not make for a movie buff, just a careless spender.

Jaqua, you should definitely check out Butch & Sundance, The Sting, All the President's Men, Indecent Proposal, Sneakers, and Spy Game. Those would probably give you good enough cross section as to what kind of performance we might be getting. Sneakers and Spy Game are the more recent ones that would relate to the direction Winter Soldier is heading. I'd also check out The Horse Whisperer as a bonus for Scarlet Johannson's first role and the fact that she'll be reteaming with Redford for this movie.

^ Don't forget films like Brubaker and The Great Gatsby. Might as well throw in Up Close and Personal for a romantic movie, and Out of Africa. Oh, and Barefoot in the Park, which is a classic play as well.

Yeah, so many great ones. Tired to pick a good list with action and espionage, with Indecent Proposal as a good one where he's not necessarily a good guy.

Good to have confirmation. Looks like LR was right again. They have some good sources.

Intresting they reimaged a classic character for Redford Instead of making up character
for him.

Pretty typical for Marvel since it gives a slight nod to the comics while forging a new path for that character name.

So the SHIELD agents in this film include Nick Fury, Natasha Romanoff, Sharon Carter, Sam Wilson?, Maria Hill, Jasper Sitwell, and now Alexander Pierce.

Maybe Agent Pierce was someone who has encountered Winter Soldier in the past?

Yes. And I love it. :woot:
I didn't think Mavel would actually pull another agent from the comics based on the characters in the show, nice to see they did. It makes sense though, all of the agents on Joss' TV show are probably lower ranking agents. Aside from Melinda May and probably Grant Ward.

Guys... think about this -

Robert Redford...

Robert Red Skull!

Well is it possible that Alexander Pierce plays the turncoat role similar to that 1970's story when the President turned out to be a villain and Cap lost faith in the country?

I recognize him and I have seen him before. I know what he's been in. I just never knew him by NAME. Therefor to ME, he wasn't significant.

LOL!

I actually do think he'll be the one pulling Bucky's strings though... especailly as he can play old enough to be directly affected (involved?) with WWII.

depending on his ability with accents, I actually could see Redford making a good Zemo

Redford is an American icon. Pitting Redford against the guy who wears the American flag as his costume is hard to believe. Redford v. America.

I'm not saying it won't happen or that anyone is wrong, it's just hard to believe.

he's an actor, if he can't make it believable he isn't doing his job. My favorite actors are those that play bad guys and good guys well

I'm so glad Redford is joining the MCU! The more respected actors in there the broader the audience will be, which means more Marvel films! Yippee! Redford is awesome and CA:WS is looking to be an amazing film. Can't wait!

Well Redford can play a bad guy in another film. I don't want him to be one here. Maybe it's because he seems like he would've been more ideal for Cap in his prime than Evans, that's why it would almost seem now that they're turning Cap bad. I prefer that he just plays the American icon in this movie.

I wasn't arguing his ability as an actor, I am saying his perception with the public is that of an American Icon and pitting Robert Redford, the man, against America is not something I see working in Mr. Redford's favor. The more natural role for Mr. Redford would be to work with Captain America, not against.

Again, I'm not saying you, or anyone else, is wrong, I'm saying I don't see Mr. Redford taking that role.

But wouldn't that make the role much more interesting, like Henry Fonda in Once Upon a Time in the West?

Not to mention, the theme of Cap being faced with a compromised America should play pretty strong in this film.
