I'll say this, as long as we care about those movies, all is well.

9 out of the last 20 reviews have been rotten, this movie is DEFINITELY not staying in the 70's.

I was looking at the page and saw that it had 52 fresh and 22 rotten. I hit the refresh button and it now has 53 fresh and 24 rotten. For every positive there are about 2-3 negatives.

I do think critics and some fans have some bias towards this franchise and hate on it for simply existing as a reboot. They feel it was too soon to reboot the Spider Man franchise after Rami's trilogy. I swear if this was directed by Chris Nolan for example it would get a pass from his name alone.

All you have to do is slap Christopher Nolan's name on something and that gives it a slight advantage.

At the end of the day who really cares of critics liked or disliked this movie? They aren't the ones spending money to see these movies it's us. We form our own opinion on if we liked the movie or not. This is coming from an aspiring film/ media professional.

If that was the case, then Man of Steel would have gotten better reviews, and Christopher Nolan's name was stamped all over the promotion for that movie (much moreso than Zack Snyder's name, the actual director).

I understand the critics' possible bias against this reboot, especially since it's been too soon. It's not anyone's fault that the previous series is still very fresh in people's minds (and those movies are viewed favorably for the most part). Yeah, people have baggage before seeing the reboot. That's Sony's problem, not everyone else's.

One critic compared it to SM2 and a number of others still refer to the series as unnecessary or redundant.
I find these comments strange, to be honest. The origin is out of the way, so TASM2 is effectively another adventure. Another day in the life of Peter Parker. Comments like 'we didn't need this movie' are obvious and negative for the sake of being negative, and can be applied to any film for that matter.

That's why I said slight advantage.

Thank you.

:lmao:

I guarantee if Nolan had done this same movie the same way critics would be ripping it apart even harder because they expect much better.

Where's that slight advantage, though? Man of Steel has a rotten rating on RT. Maybe you think the advantage is there because you think MOS deserves an even lower rating? If that's the case, I guess can understand that. That's a subjective observation though, not an objective one.

Personally, I think the current 56% rating from critics is more than fair. I don't dislike the film at all, but it could have been a lot better, and I can see how a lot of the creative decisions made can be polarizing. I have also heard even fanboys starting to criticize Nolan for some of his style of storytelling over the past year. I personally don't see an advantage right now; I think the afterglow from 2008 and 2010 is gone.

Anyway, back to TASM2: I have finally seen the movie (I will post a review of it this weekend, as I want to let the movie simmer and settle in my brain a little bit longer before I go into a long review). The mixed response from the critics, in my opinion, is well-deserved.

TDKR pacing and plot is all over the ****ing place, the characters are under developed and it's in the 80's on RT.

I still don't get how TDKR got so many spectacular, glowing reviews. Same with Inception. I thought it was a decent film but never thought it was more than just that. This is why I'm still not too worried about TASM2 based on RT since I usually don't agree with the scores on that site.

I do admit that TDKR is a very flawed film, but there was definitely enough in there to satisfy a lot of moviegoers (I personally think that Bane was a cool enough villain to keep the moviegoers happy, and Catwoman was a lot of fun to watch). I honestly don't know any casual moviegoers who didn't like it. The only complaints I've seen have been on the internet.

Also, I think TDKR was definitely riding off the success of The Dark Knight and Inception at the time of its release. Since then, I don't think the enthusiasm for Nolan is nearly as present, especially after Man of Steel.

And I think the first TASM is all over the place and really messy, yet it has a certified fresh rating on RT. I don't see how this Spidey reboot is at a disadvantage.

I agree. Reviewers were blind to all the flaws. Gaping holes in logic, Plot threads that were dropped or went no where, under developed characters, characters who existed to dish out exposition but the movies get a pass because it's Nolan.

It's your opinion though. It's like saying "the pacing for TASM2 wasn't even bad, it was fine and it's in the 60s on RT?? the critics are so biased." There are obviously critics who thought the plot and pacing was fine in TDKR therefore the score was high.

I honestly don't enjoy SM2 as much as a lot of people do yet it has an RT rating of 94% and an average score in the 8s. I still think the rating is fair as many people do like the movie.

Popular movies made by the same director were preceding them. When it comes to TASM 2, you only have a movie that is received with a meh from critics and audiences and with a director that has made only two movies.

In the case of TDKR, I believe it was the hype from the previous two films and getting the same production crew back.

I thought TDKR was terrible, but it had the good taste still in it's mouth from TDK. Plus Nolan's name was considered gold at that point.

Webb has hasn't been taken seriously from the beginning.

I think some people are just getting salty as the rating dips. I've seen the movie and I think where it's at now is about what it deserves. Sure as hell was not TDK of Spider-Man movies, I can tell you that. This movie has some promising aspects to it, but some things are just unquestionably awful, it's mindboggling.
