lol I don't think that is even possible at this point I think we would need like 200 possitve reviews in a row good joke though

I'm the exact opposite. Character is the main thing that counts for me. I need both storytelling and character for a great film, but I see it this way: A great story with better characterization will always have more potential than a great story with not-so-great characterization.

A great film doesn't change the way you set up your characters in your particular universe. You would have to retcon that and accommodate the characters to be more like their comic book counterparts. Whereas if you make a mediocre film that gets all the characters right, there still is the chance of getting both right the next time in your next film. Which, unfortunately, it seems like this film didn't do (based on the reviews, but I'll judge that for myself).

Say what?! When was Spider-Man not a wisecracker???

That's the most inaccurate thing I ever heard regarding Spider-Man (no offense).

Well i guess its different for me because the wise cracking was never as important as the goodness and conflict that he has as a human being so for me that characterization is great. I loved Spider-Man because he's the only superhero i relate to almost 100%, and that was more important to me than the jokes. That's why Spider-Man 2 still holds up for me because that was the first great superhero character study imo. Heck im not even sure i like Peter as much in ASM (No fault of Garfield, his performance is my favorite aspect of ASM. Great casting imo). I think thats why saying sonething is the definitive version of a character is strange to me. So many interpretations of it and so many people like different aspects of it, how can one be considered definitive. But i like both for different reasons. I just think so far Spider-Man 2 is the best so far still.

None at all. It hasn't even hit 170 reviews yet and it already has 69 negatives. That doesn't bode well for it staying above 55%.

It could go below 55%, but I think 159 reviews is a good representative sample considering the first film got 284 reviews, so +/- 3% I'd say. This won't go below 50%, it's not getting back to fresh.

Yeah I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic. I think 58% would be the high bar at this point.

I know it was just funny but yeah I am sure he was just being sarcastick but I hope we can at least get back to 60.

I hesitate to say what it isn't going to do at this point, as far as decreases are concerned.

How many more reviews do you reckon we'll get?
No idea. For some reason the number of reviews can vary so much. There will be another 70 more at least. From that, who knows.

For me, the wisecracking is part of that human side and conflict that comes with the duel identity. When Peter puts on that mask, he feels "freedom". He feels he can be whoever he wants to be, and isn't bound by the status of "the average Joe" or "average outcast" in the case of his high school years. Also having experienced bullying in my younger years, I can also really relate to using humor as a defence and coping mechanism.

In that case, if it goes below 50 within the next 70 or so reviews...

Especially this forum.

Wow.... the reviews are coming in and theyre pretty bad.

James B says the final 15 minutes save the film being being "a disaster"

The reviews aren't great but some are acting like it's getting a Transcendence style beat down. Or maybe I should say some are acting like it's getting a Green Lantern and Fantastic Four 1 and 2 style beatdown.

Over 12 reviews I've read compare the film to Batman & Robin.

I'd say that's a beat down.

I've seen the Batman Forever and Batman and Robin comparisons from some but the movie, among critics, still isn't this hated thing. If the movie were it would be in the 30's right now.

I'm not going to lie I think the film looks pretty bad but I expected more critics to like it.

Batman Forever and Batman & Robin comparisons yet no Dark Knight.

Yeah, it's a mixed response. Nothing more, nothing less. Definitely not a total panning like we've seen with the movies you mentioned.
