The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Rotten Tomatoes score? - Part 4

The movie doesn't have to be dark to make sense and be non fragmented. I simply felt the script and editing were atrocious and the villains unfathomably awful. The hammy acting from the villains didn't fit with the grounded performances Garfield and Stone were giving and the film looking visually grounded didn't fit those performances either. You can't mix cartoon performances with grounded visuals and grounded lead performances. For those reasons the film is quite simply a tonal nightmare of epic proportions.

It's really tough to be on these boards and be a fan of this movie :csad:
Not really. Just share your opinion and move on. I don't think the people who disliked the movie are personally offended to see people having a different view, or are being malicious and getting enjoyment out of it like a versus 'competition'.

Try visiting the Fantastic Four forum & say you are a fan of how that one is going & see the big difference between here & there

I don't think there would have been much of a problem there if those who liked the direction of the film were willing to engage in an honest debate. But all 90% of them ever did was just complain about other posters not liking the direction of the film. Calling those that were against the direction of the film idiots and bigots. It was essentially trolling. The admins eventually got after them for it.

I know thats why I dared him. Because anyone looking forward to the movie can not have an honest discussion in there

Yeesh. That sounds awful. At least in here, people are willing to have a meaningful discussion.

Hilarious gif. lol.

If I really hated the movie as much as you do, I'd have no problem saying so. However, ASM2 hit me in all the right spots.

I'm happy with the direction the film took.Instead of forcing an unnaturally dark tone on the character like they did with the first film,(which was a crime of epic proportions)they actually let Spidey act like Spidey. They didn't whip the mask off in every-single-action scene. They gave us a kick butt opening with Spidey against another low level Spidey villain. And they did right by Gwen's death.Isn't that pretty much what we asked for?

I agree that the dark tone wasn't the best choice for Spider-Man and imo he's much better suited for the lighter/fun/campy tone that we got with ASM2. It was a breath of fresh air. And to answer your question, yes, that is what we asked for and they did it all wonderfully. They also threw in that Times Square scene we were asking for too.

Now,the Goblin was shoehorned in and looked unimpressive (but hey, when you rail against a reasonably accurate mask for years, don't complain when the studio gets gun-shy about putting the Goblin in a mask).Max wasn't really as bad as people act,but even forgetting that,Electro was pretty awesome after his transformation.Kafka,yeah.I got nothing. It was bad.But hanging on to those two scenes are as stupid as the people who condemn SM3 over the dancing scenes.

Correct.

I think they addressed most of the issues TASM had,so now is not the time to make Sony go backwards and repeat the flaws of the first TASM.Which is exactly whats going to happen just like it did after SM3.Another Grim/Dark Spidey movie is more worrisome to me,than Electro saying some cheesy one-liner.

Eh, not so sure about that. I think we may encounter some 'darker' elements, i.e. Norman becoming a Goblin, Harry and Peter facing off, etc. however I have faith they'll keep the lighter tone.

You are right and my post wasn't meant to reflect that attitude. Sorry if I came off as being abrasive.

Well Godzilla didn't have cringeworthy moments through, quite literally, the ENTIRE movie.

I saw thought and care go into Godzilla. All I saw for ASM2 was "let's make money and introduce the Sinister Six for more money but make it appeal to the younger audiences so make them really, really, really, really, really, really hammy and unbelievable."
"But sir, that's not how the comics portrayed them..."
"There are comics?"

Thanks for sharing your opinion now let me share mine.
Godzilla plotwise was as stupid as Pacific Rim but the difference is PR had awesome action scenes whereas Godzilla only made cameo in his own dam movie. That is just unacceptable.
Oh and I'm sorry but Kickass got nothing on Garfield. He was as bland as one can get.
So of course I don't agree with critics and RT score. At all.

Godzilla 72% RT and was a PoS, RUBBISH! RT will be taken with a pinch of salt by me from now on.

Man, I feel like I've disagreed with every RT score this year so far for films I've seen, I must have a pretty poor taste in films.

Early prediction for TASM3 RT score is 95% from me :)

At least when Godzilla was on he was Godzilla and cool.

What is unacceptable is taking Spider-Man's top villain, Green Goblin, changing it to Harry and giving him a piss-poor motivation and make him a fit throwing totally unlikable jerk, having him kill Gwen which is totally out of character, and you want to talk about cameo? He had what, 3 minutes as Green Goblin? The fight with the two is literally 30 seconds long before they choke eachother and Goblin makes silly faces.

The critics ripped ASM2 for a lot of reasons. The movie is a total joke and mess.

What's wrong exactly with having a villian that is a jerk? I don't want to love them.

I think trying to live is a pretty good motivation. Its going to make someone desperate and unpredictable.

Because this is HARRY. Harry in the comics was likable! It was Peter's best friend. It makes the Goblin transformation a lot more tragic because they are best friends fighting. They have detailed history.
They really built up nothing for me in the movie. It was too quick, too rushed, and just bad.

"I want your blood and ignore your reason because I am dying" is stupid compared to the whole best friend "killed" my father story. And it was so poorly done. When he hits Spidey with the bottle and it cuts homself and he throws a fit "YOU'RE A FRAUUUDD!!" people laughed in the theater. It is such a cheeseball movie.

I've always found it funny how the people who disliked the film heard people laughing and booing the film, and the people who loved the film had standing ovations and chants of "Sony Sony Sony".

Our viewing of the crowds reaction is influenced by our own thoughts on the film.

Well that's where we differ. I'm not bothered how closely it follows the comics in a lot of way's. Its a film with people trying to be creative, I would never expect them to rip the pages from comic books. The comics are there we can always go back and read them.

I went to three packed Cinema's to watch it and reaction was very positive. Then again I am from England and it was relatively well received here.

In fact the only place it appears to have been ripped apart is N. America.

So you're comparing King of Monsters to Goblin Junior and think that having him as first Goblin made critics to lower their RT score.

Alrighty...

My theater was silent. Completely and totally silent. Take with that what you will.

Ah, 1- Webhead's saying his story wasn't compelling. Which it wasn't.

2- His B-Movie performance as Goblin surely didn't help the ratings.

Uh, no I only brought Godzilla in because people are curious as to why critics don't hate it like ASM2.

The critics gave Spidey a low score not because of Harry being Goblin first, they gave it a low score because well, it was a corny, overstuffed, poorly written, and all around bad movie. The only positive thing I see is Andrew and Emma were good.

But I am sure if they did the Goblin story right and gave it time and made Goblin not at all hammy, it would have done better. Not much better considering all the other awful stuff, but better. Goblin should have been...just incredible and really sinister.

How could the critics criticise Godzilla? It wouldn't be very fair considering he's hardly in it.

It should be called ''S**t Hitting The Fan - Featuring Godzilla"
