The Dark Knight Rises Roven: Joker Could Return

Well because the average movie goer will want to see the Joker again. They won't care if it's Heath Ledger or not. Fans of Heath Ledger and some fans of Batman might care though. I'm not one of them.

average movie goer usually dont know what makes a movie good. So its the popularity of the haracter that makes it ok for a recast. Dont agree there.

Yea but they does they are the ones putting the money in the pockets of the studio.

This is all irrelevant really anyway. I can't be bothered to argue about this anymore, I've already posted my feelings on the topic.

All it comes down to is this. I will trust Nolan whatever he does. If he re-casts? Great. I think someone like Nolan will not be creatively limited by Heaths unfortunate death. And I doubt he will bottle it if he has a story for the Joker. But if not? Fine, I will trust his decision. He knows what he doing, I don't think any one on these boards has the right to question his decisions or abilities.

I think Heath, as an actor, wouldn't be insulted if they continued to use his character, he should believe in the philosophy of "the show must go on" in the name of entertainment.

I think your argument may work when they are not playing the "same" character. Like Nicholson and Heath are both playing the Joker but not the same Joker. If they did another reboot I wouldnt complaing about a "recast".

Man, the Joker is a schizo amongst over things. I don't think it being a different actor would really matter that much. As long as they keep the look sorta similar, his slightly different personality can be explained. If the Joker is re-cast, whoever gets the gig should just do what Heath did. Lock themselves away, become the Joker. I think it would be pretty cool and innovative to have a constant, re-occuring menace in a film such as this. Make the Joker like the cult horror villains like Jason or Freddie.

well if someone argued not to recast in a new franchise Id really think they were nuts.... anywho..... I think if they had in mind for the 3rd film ... recast, He did a amazing job but let the stroy go someone else might do just as good.. The Joker is probably one of the easier characters to recast considering nothing is consistent with him... voice, what he will or will not do ect... and his face is warped and covered in make up If they do recast Im sure he will find a good choice his casting so far has been pretty amazing... excluding the guy who is in the armored swat vehicle with Dent and Gordon

Ledger did the hardest part masterfully, coming up with the characters little tweeks... I think for someone to be able to watch Heath performance and find a way to appropriatly carry it out further shouldn't be the hardest task in the world for someone who is a actor for a living

I think the best use of the Joker is to have his laugh ring down the hallways inside of Arkham. You can show him in shadow, but you need a man smiling with a glaslow smile as Batman walks by. Like the scarecrow he is needed for an instant to connect to previous films, but really his arrival adds nothing to the story. We have already seen the Joker do all manner of things, so unless he can do much worse (which we know he can) why recast him?

Not even that. I dont understand why everybody is suggesting this. Its so Ed Wood.

Yea that would be pointless. I'd rather have him left out completely than just a laugh brought over from TDK. That just seems cheap and tacky to me.

:D Sorry man, I didn't mean to come across as a dick head. Just in a bad mood!
Don't worry, you haven't. We all have our moments man haha! It's cool.

Yes, yes, yes!! I do definitely want to see some other villains get the Nolan treatment. My choices are Riddler and Deathstroke. I wrote a rough story outline a little while ago with them two as the main villains. But Joker can still be included as a enemy to the enemies of Batman, if you know what I mean? The Joker wouldn't want someone else playing around with or killing Batman would he? And The Joker isn't dead, like he was in Burtons films. Yes Heath is unfortunately dead, but Joker doesn't die with Heath.
That's absolutely correct, Joker hasn't died with Heath, BUT on the other hand, I think our Joker from SHH has a good point down there;):

Yeah, that's what he meant. Heath's Joker is totally unique in his style, mannerisms, voice, appearance etc. We never saw a Joker with that unique style before.

That was all Heath. Anyone else who plays the role, even with that same script and style, would not be the same simply because they're not Heath.

Every actor has their own style and finesse. Heath put his stamp on that Joker.

You're absolutely right mate!

I dont have a problem with recast as long as they bring in someone talented, and we all know we dont have to worry about that with Nolan.

There can be a million takes on psychotic, but as long as the makeup is there and someone who understands the character writes him well the joker is the joker.

I think this guy could do it and it would be nice for him and nolan to work together again.

Guy Pierce is very good actor, but don't see him as a Joker, but more as The Riddler...

Take a look on Hugo Weaving - make some comparison:

Yea Hugo Weaving is a great actor as well. But I personally think he would be PERFECT for the Joker in a TDKR adaptation. He's my choice if that ever gets made. He is too hold for the "street punk" type Joker from TDK IMO.

That depends... Jack Nicholson was an bizarre Joker, Heath Ledger was an anarchist Joker... each actor had an different approach (don't forget how the script was written).

Yea I see what you are saying. But they can't go from youthful anarchist Joker to a older Joker in one film. But I really do like Hugo Weaving as the older Joker from TDKR novel.

Ah, Weaving was my favourite choice as Joker for TDK. But yes, he's too old to be Ledger's replacement.

Pierce would probably be better for Riddler, but if they want to keep the same look, I tihnk he would be one of the best choices for The Joker.

Here's my top 4 for the Joker in the 3rd.

1.Joaquin Phoenix

Yup, I know he's retired. But who knows? By the time Nolan and his crew decide to start casting and get everything else going he might come out of retirement. Do you remember how nuts he appeared to be in Gladiator? He stole every scene he appeared in that movie. He is a scene stealer the same way Heath Ledger was in The Dark Knight.
He also, just like everybody else on my list, looks fairly similar to Heath and the Joker.

2.Michael Sheen

Most people like him as the Riddler and so do I. But I started to think how he could probably be even better as the Joker. Just take a look at how menacing he is in the Underworld films.

3.Joseph Gordon-Levitt

The most striking thing about him is his resemblance to Heath Ledger. And for anybody who doubts his acting chops, just go watch Brick, The Lookout and Mysterious Skin.
And he's now filming the live action G.I. Joe film where he plays Cobra Commander. From his choices of roles, I think he has a bit of an evil side.

4.Jake Gyllenhaal

The only bad side about this choice would be the jokes being made about him and Ledger both being in Brokeback Mountain. But I think because of him and Ledger co-staring together it would want to make him do it even more for Heath. Plus, he's always wanted to be in a comic book movie because of all the roles he's auditioned for, Batman, Spiderman, Robin, maybe it's because he's a comic book fan, I dunno. But, this guy has a dark side just waiting to be unleashed. And Christopher Nolan may just be the director who can open Jake's own Pandora's box. There's a scene in Jarhead where Jake had to act like he's about to shoot a fellow soldier. You can see it in his eyes. He has a demon inside.

Not bad choices, but Joaquin Pheonix has retired from acting I think. I would put Paul Bettany in there as well. Have you seen Gangster No.1? Bettany is a sicko in that.

Joker won't return. not for a while at least.

You know, I also didnt even think of pearce when you say joker, but then I caught bed time stories with my gf where he plays this slightly colourful bad guy and then I said ok this guy could actually play a very creepy psychopathic joker like character.

He could also pull the look real well as you can see from the pic above. Who knows if Nolan would cosider him but if he were to do it I think he could really pull it off with all of us cheering for him.

I completely agree with what you said about him having a dark side. That scene in Jarhead is pretty intense, I could see him playing a complete nutcase.
