Yeah, I feel Joker's story is kinda done in Nolan's Batman, now it's just the aftermath. The next movie needs to deal with the power vacuum that was created with Jokers departure, Maroni and Carmine's Death caused. Also the next movie needs to be a redemption movie for Batman.
Also if the Joker does get recast I would want Benicio Del Toro.

Joker's story arc is done. Not necessarily the character. Everything that was needed to be said, was conveyed properly in the film. Which is to say that there weren't any open-ended holes.Yea Joker's story ain't done, no way.
With the way the character and his relationship with Batman was established in TDK leaving him out of the finale would be very stupid IMO.
I see TDK as more of a introduction to the Joker, a introduction to Batmans no.1 nemesis.
And I've said it before but i'll say it again...
Would Joker, a man who is "completed" by Batman, just sit in a cell twiddling his thumbs whilst the man who gives his life purpose is out there, getting chased by police and other villains? Of course ****ing not!
The Joker would never let anyone else have a piece of Batman, the Joker would want him all to himself. And a cell wouldn't stop him.
As far as I can tell, when you look at it objectively, the only reason some people (if they were honest about it)say Joker shouldn't come back is because of Ledger's death. IMO that's nonsense.

It's the same way with Rachel in BB. She was pretty much "done" at the end, but she could have (and was) brought back with the sequel. But it didn't have to be turn out that way.
If Joker came back for the next one who says he has to be a main villain? You can have you new villain (my choice is Riddler) then have Joker screw around with his plans as well as Batman and the police.
Yea it is unlikely Nolan will re-cast. But if he does have plans for Joker then no one should doubt him.

I say split the time between Riddler and the Joker, without making one seem more important than the other. I think that if Nolan had plans to use the character again, he should just go ahead and recast. It's not a crime to recast...everyone loves and respects Heath's performance but it wouldn't be such a crime to recast an actor who can generate that same amount of magic.

To have the Riddler make the Joker scared because of his intelligence when the Joker showed no fear in the first movie...that'd be a disaster. Don't make either scared of the other, it demeans a character to make them scared of another villain when they've never shown fear in the past.
someone egotistical and precise like The Riddler I think would fear someone chaotic like The Joker
That's not the only reason. The reason people want him back is because he's Batman greatest adversary, and everyone wants to see a hero's greatest enemy constantly popping up. Again, the Joker is not done in Nolan's world. He had plans in TDk...some worked, some failed. There's no doubt in my mind he could concoct more plans.
