There was one, his name was Heath Ledger. Much as I like Jack Nicholson as The Joker but Leder was much better.

Like I said, the ending would be of Gordon saying how they'll never really win but just protect against the constant. Joker escaping would add to that. You can even have Gordon tell Bats that Joker's escaped. But as CC said...

A character as compelling as the Joker doesn't even need to be seen to impact the film. Just the thought of him mout there again would be enough.

That sounds rather lazy to me, especially since it would be for the sole purpose of inserting some unused scene into the movie. Don't you think the audience would want to see him escape again?

and I would have wanted to see Joker kill the fake batman or two-face abduct gordons family. However what is wanted is not always what is needed to convey an idea.

I still think that if Joker's in the next they should use existing footage.

Batman and Gordon on a rooftop, bad guys defeated, but the talk is about how they never really win but are always just doing what they can to keep things as cool as possible, like using a bucket in a siniking boat. Intercut this with feet coming down some townhouse steps, windows blow out, car door slams.

Thug in driver's seat: You just blew up the mayor!

Joker sat in back: I'm a man of my word.

I think Nolan does have existing footage that was not used in TDK.

The scene and pic that was released with Joker in the back of the car with his thug in the drivers seat? That was never in the final released cut.

as sad as it would be to recast the Joker just cuz Ledger did such a good job with it, i think it would be a mistake if they didnt bring back the Joker in a future film because hes such a vital villain for batman. Mr. Freeze just doesn't work for Nolan because its too sci-fi for his realistic type batman movie. Penguin never seemed like a big enough threat to batman, hes a fat deformed dude so ya it wouldnt be much of a movie, would just be him ordering a bunch of thugs to attack batman. Riddler is basically the only other character i can see being used and possibly Bane.

Gordon Joseph Levitt or Johnny Depp should simply take over as the joker. With the make up on either of them would look ridiculously similiar to heath so there would be no problem in the looks department. when it comes to how they should act, i seriously think they should just watch heaths portrayl over and over, and really GET into the mind set heath created. they say heath locked himself away to create this joker, he made a diary, etc. have levitt or depp study this role heath created as much as possible, give them the diary to read... when your an actor, you ACT out a part. heaths creation was a realistic, sadistic, lying, evil Joker. Levitt or Depps role could be HEATHS Joker. the NOLAN Joker. My point being not in a tacky copy cat cringe-fest, they should take it deadly seriously and finish this epic story. Of course we'l sadly never know how heath would have played it out if he were still around, but we have 2 choices. we either lose this joker, or we have someone take the reigns and seriously give it their best shot in order to finish the trilogy heath and everyone else worked so much on. I know which i would prefer.

Nolan himself denied this. He claimed that he had no plan whatsoever for any sequel, that he sets up his films one at a time and that he tried to exploit the characters as much as possible in The Dark Knight, not saving anything for the future. It's your choice to believe him or not. At first, I understand the rationale of the people who say the Joker had much more to do and be in further films... but then I try to think of something and I still prefer to see other villains. Maybe I lack imagination.

I agree with most of what you're saying; if an actor could successfully imitate the Heath-Joker to the point where the difference is almost indistinguishable, then I would love to see the Joker again.

I'd rather someone bring something personal to the role, just like Heath did. Heath's Joker was so great because it was like a evil version of himself. If they re-cast whoever gets the gig needs to do that. Not a straight up imitation of Heath's Joker.

And it wouldn't matter if he's different. This is the Joker we are talking about, he isn't exactly one note or have a consistent personality.

I think you would have to be a bit of a philistine not to want to see Johnny Depp's re imagining of Heath's Joker.

I hope Nolan truly does re-consider recasting the Joker. I can understand the immense respect he had for Heath, but I'm very sure Heath would've wanted the show to go on. I think Johnny Depp would be absolutely perfect for the role, and would be able to do just as good as Heath. Maybe we, as fans, should rally together and show how much we want Depp in the role?

Ras is a lame villain anyways. Joker had the whole makeup/purple suit/ calling card thing, Two-Face had the freaky scarring, Scarecrow had the disturbing mask and fear toxin, but Ras was just.. a guy. LAME.
