Ledger's way of speaking really shouldn't be all that hard to imitate for most actors. I think he mostly just talked with the back of his throat. I'm not real sure why they would bother digitally altering the actor's voice of they had already gone to the trouble of recasting and had a physically different-looking Joker.

the more i think about it, the more i would like johnny depp as the joker,should the character return.

joseph gordon levy may look like heath ledger but that is the problem-he'd simply be doing an imitation (and he looks too young)

depp is respected enough to be accepted by fans,and he was a friend of ledger , so he will also try to be respectfull to the uniquness of ledgers performance and bring his own quirks and nuances to the role.

question is though, can bale equal depp and play off him the way he did with heath? after seeing public enemies, it seemed that bale got owned on screen by depp. a hard one, methinks.

I don't want Joker to be in the movie beyond anything other than a cameo, anyway. They can hire a body double who looks somewhat like Ledger and only show his silhouette / have him shadowed over, and then have a voice actor immitate Ledger's Joker voice and I think that will be enough. If they try to actually replace Ledger with a serious recast though, like Levitt or Depp, I will be annoyed. It's too soon IMO to bring someone in with the intention of outshining Ledger, and if they don't live up to ledger it will be almost as bad. Just give Joker a break for a few years-- we've already got a kickass Joker movie, so why can't we be satasfied with what we have? Do we really need a new Joker already, after having just gotten such a definitive iteration of the character?

I wouldn't like that since it would seem like a pale imitation of Ledger's performance. It just comes off like having the Joker in the movie just for the sake of having him there.

If anyone can do the Joker, it's Daniel Day Lewis. His method acting madness is up there with De Niro's. He becomes the character. For Last of the Mohicans he lived in the woods for ages. His Daniel Plainview was a misogynist in the vein of the Joker, though not as homicidal. Day Lewis could do it.
